BY STEVE NASH BROWNWOOD BULLETIN [email protected] I t was a breezy and sun-splashed after- noon when the teenage student pilot began a pre-flight inspection of 5586 Romeo, a four-seat Cessna 172. Gerrit Zondag, a 17-year- old Early High School student, had a bit of an audience at Brownwood Re- gional Airport that included his mother, Leann, and his grandparents, Jake and Carrol Zondag. The senior Zondags were visiting from Canada. “Mind your own business, Mom!” Gerrit joked as his mother — also a pilot — scrutinized his work while he pre-flighted the Cessna. His mother just laughed. Gerrit waited for his in- structor, Brownwood Flying Service owner Pete Michaud, to arrive. Plans were for the two to fly together for a few minutes and land, then Gerrit would take Cessna back into the air for some solo work. BY CALEB MCCAIG BROWNWOOD BULLETIN [email protected] Members of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church are preparing for this year’s Operation Christmas Child collection campaign, which will take place Nov. 17-24. The campaign is a project of Samaritan’s Purse which has provided gifts to needy children in more than 95 countries. Since 1993, more than 113 mil- lion children around the world have received gifts from caring people. “We do this because, yes we like to give gifts to children around the world who don’t mauve much, but the main thing is that when these children are presented these boxes they’re also told about Jesus Christ,” said Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Relay Center Coordina- tor Kathy Pettit. “Ultimately the goal is to open the doors to Jesus Christ to these children so that the can see God’s love in action.” To donate, follow the easy steps below, then delver the box or boxes to the church, located at 1815 Coggin Ave. • Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the age category: 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. • Fill with a central item that a child will cherish, like a doll or a deflated soccer ball with a pump. Currently Brown County is not under a burn ban, but according to Precinct 1 com- missioner Gary Worley it’s an important action item to keep on the agenda. “We keep it on the agenda every meeting, so if we need to implement one we can,” he said. “We’ll discuss the topic Monday morning, but as of now, Brown County is not under a burn ban.” Other items on the agenda for Monday morning include the con- sideration and possible action on the reappointment of Robert Porter to the Brown County Hospital Au- thority Board, the possible approval of a replacement air conditioning unit for the jail and the possible ap- pointment of a constable in Precinct 1. It was a breezy and sun-splashed after-noon when the teenage student pilot began a

pre-flight inspection of 5586 Romeo, a four-seat Cessna 172.

Gerrit Zondag, a 17-year-old Early High School student, had a bit of an audience at Brownwood Re-gional Airport that included his mother, Leann, and his grandparents, Jake and Carrol Zondag. The senior

Zondags were visiting from Canada.

“Mind your own business, Mom!” Gerrit joked as his mother — also a pilot — scrutinized his work while he pre-flighted the Cessna. His mother just laughed.

Gerrit waited for his in-structor, Brownwood Flying Service owner Pete Michaud, to arrive. Plans were for the two to fly together for a few minutes and land, then Gerrit would take Cessna back into the air for some solo work.

Members of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church are preparing for this year’s Operation Christmas Child collection campaign, which will take place Nov. 17-24.

The campaign is a project of Samaritan’s Purse which has provided gifts to needy children in more than 95 countries.

The Brown County Commission-ers will meet Monday, November 3 with several items on the agenda, including the consideration and pos-sible approval of action regarding the burn ban.

Currently Brown County is not under a burn ban, but according to Precinct 1 com-missioner Gary Worley it’s an important action item to keep on the agenda.

“We keep it on the agenda every meeting, so if we need to implement one we can,” he said. “We’ll discuss the topic Monday morning, but as of now, Brown County is not under a burn ban.”
