BEAVER — An Ambridge manhas been found guilty by aBeaver County jury of beatinghis toddler son so badly with aleather belt that the boy mighthave suffered permanent dam-age.
Dennis Kahlil Miller, 21, aPhiladelphia native who hadbeen in Ambridge for about amonth at the time of the July 29,2009, incident, was found guiltyWednesday of aggravatedassault, endangering the welfareof a child, reckless endanger-ment and simple assault. A sen-tencing date was not yet beenset.
During court testimony,authorities described theinjuries at the time to DamirMiller, now 4, as a swollen brain,broken nose, fat lip and cuts andbruises on nearly every part ofhis body. Doctors said the young-ster developed a seizure disor-der and will require long-termtreatment. The boy lives with hismother, Asa Davis, in Philadel-phia.
When Ambridge police werecalled to 300 Fourth Ave., Apart-ment 404, to assist the boy, whowas foaming at the mouth andunconscious, officers said Millerinitially tried to blame Davis.Miller told police he had recent-ly returned from Philadelphiawith his son, who had been on aweekend visit with his mother.
But police learned Davis hadbeen in a hospital after undergo-ing emergency gall bladder sur-gery at the time. When confront-ed, Miller admitted to “whip-ping” his son, but denied caus-ing any other injuries, accordingto court documents. Police wereable to match many of theinjuries with Miller’s belt.
Officials testified they believeMiller also violently shook theboy.

BRIGHTON TWP. — Twounclaimed roaming cows arecausing trouble in BrightonTownship, and that’s no bull.
Brighton Police Chief HowardBlinn said Thursday that theblack-and-white cows have occa-sionally been seen in fields offSebring Road and Mudlick Hol-low Road over the last month,but they’ve now taken to enter-ing eastbound Interstate 376between the Brighton and Van-port Township exits.
“When I heard about that,that’s when I said we’ve got to dosomething,” said Blinn, whofears that a driver could bekilled in a collision with one ofthe cows.
Blinn said the cows were lastseen on I-376 Tuesday night and
they were seen again in a fieldoff Mudlick Hollow Roadaround noon Thursday.
Nobody has claimed the cows,and officers have been unableto tell whether they are wearingany tags, said Blinn. “You can’tget close to them,” he said.“They take off running.”
Initially, the cows were seenseveral times in a field offSebring Road near TuscarawasRoad, but they were alwaysgone by the time officersarrived.
