WHAT IS THE PSLEAGGREGATE SCORE?

• It is a sum of T-Scores (not the raw marks)

• It incorporates performance of students in all 4 subjects



T-SCORE vs RAW MARK• RAW MARK:

It shows how good the student is in that subject.

• T‐SCORE:It gives the student’s results relative to the whole exam cohort, not the school cohort

• Short for "transformed score“• The PSLE Aggregate score is the sum

of the T-scores in all four subjects• Shows how well a student does

relative to the whole exam cohort• It is possible for a student to "make up"

for a weak subject by doing very well in the other three.


Formula: T-Score = 50 + (10 x (raw score -

mean)/standard deviation)

Raw score shows how good a student is in the subjectMean refers to the average mark scored by the cohortStandard deviation measures to the "spread" of marks among the cohort


An example:

If a student scores 80 in a subject, the average mark scored by his cohort is 50 and the standard deviation is 15, this is how it would be calculated:

50 + (10 x (80-50)/15) = 70

3. Choice of 6 Schools – all of slightly different entry points


HIGHER CHINESEOffered by MOE:

1.Students can offer HCL if they:• Are in top 10% of PSLE cohort, or• Are in top 11-30% of PSLE cohort AND

attained A* in CL or Merit in HCL

2.Students who meet the above criteria will be invited to apply for HCL AFTER the release of PSLE results


HIGHER CHINESE3. If the secondary school does not offer

HCL, the students will have to study HCL in designated centres outside curriculum hours

4. If the secondary school does offer HCL, students who are not invited to apply, can still request to offer HCL


HIGHER CHINESEOffered by Maris Stella High (Sec):

1. Pre-Selection

• Publish DSA admission criteria on school websites in MAY

• Approach the relevant secondary schools or refer to school’s website for additional information

SELECTION STAGE (Jun – Aug)


2. Selection Stage (Jun-Aug)

• Secondary schools can conduct selection exercise anytime from Jun to Aug

• Those who submit DSA Application Form will be issued a letter by End AUG

(1) Confirmed Offer (2) Waiting List (3) Rejected

• Students under Confirmed Offer/Waiting List will be given School Preference Form in Oct


(Primary Schools & Students)

• Given about 5 days to indicate DSA choices (up to 3 choices, if any)

• Can submit preferences via DSA-Sec Internet System or submit at primary school in person

• Allow to amend or cancel previous submissions during these 5 days. NOT ALLOWED after closure of Exercise School Preference Stage

PREFERENCE STAGE (Oct)


• DSA Results will be released with PSLE Results

• Successful: issued with Direct Admission Notification (NOT ALLOWED to make S1 Posting Option and NOT ALLOWED to transfer to another school)

• Unsuccessful: issued with S1 Option Form. (Can still opt for the school during S1 Posting Exercise)
