Brevard Workforce Community Involvement Committee

January 22, 2014

Minutes Members in Attendance:, Laura Canady (via teleconference), Dale Coxwell (Chair), Debra Greco (via teleconference), Catherine Mallozzi, Phebe Powell, Geo Ropert and Rose Thron. Members Absent: Kristin Bakke. Staff in Attendance: Denise Biondi, Stephanie Mosedale, Lisa Rice, and Lyn Sevin. Jan Conrad and Caroline Joseph- Paul from Dynamic Works. Guests in Attendance: None. Call to Order: Dale Coxwell called the meeting to order at 4:00pm in the Brevard Workforce (BW) Boardroom. Public Comment: There was no public comment Success Stories: Staff shared a PowerPoint presentation on BW Success Stories. It was requested that these stories be uploaded to BW’s websites. Action Items: Approval of Community Involvement Committee minutes of October 23, 2013 Motion to approve the Minutes from the October 23, 2013 meeting made by Geo Ropert and seconded by Rose Thron. The motion passed unanimously. Information Items: Committee Goal 1 Update Staff reviewed the activities and updated the Committee on Goal 1 – ‘Convene the community and conduct community awareness campaigns regarding workforce issues’ as follows: Measure 2A: Brevard Workforce Outreach/Awareness Plan 2013-2014 Staff reviewed the Outreach/Awareness Plan which, for this year only, the CIC Committee is reviewing five (5) months into the program year. Many of the components in this plan will cross into PY 2014-2015; however, they will be reviewed and metrics will be attached to several of the tactics at the July CIC meeting. In December 2013, the Outreach department received the State’s brand guidelines and partial state funding to support further facilitation of the plan. BW’s Outreach Goal, Objectives and Tactics were reviewed, along with an update on work done to date. There was discussion on foster youth programs and it was suggested that a BW staff member connect with Brevard Family Partnership (BFP) regarding the newly forming Youth Advisory Council. Phebe Powell agreed to be BFP’s liaison.

Page 3: Brevard Workforce Development Board€¦ · Hero fund raiser is complete and was a huge success. Further updates on the rebranding affects and the site’s design and functionality

Measure 2D: Website Performance Staff reviewed the new BW website which is under reconstruction to adopt the new CareerSource Florida brand. This new site is being used as an example for other workforce boards and will be launched by the State’s projected date of February 10, 2014. Due to the holidays, the quarter to quarter comparison reflects a decrease in web activities and traffic counts. This is thought to be due, not only to the season, but to BW’s reduction in paid media. It was noted that the Operation Work Hero fund raiser is complete and was a huge success. Further updates on the rebranding affects and the site’s design and functionality will be provided at the next meeting. There being no other business Dale Coxwell adjourned the meeting at 4:47pm. Submitted by, Reviewed by, (signature on file) 1/27/14 (signature on file) 1/27/14 Lyn Sevin Date Dale Coxwell, Chair Date

Information Brief

Measure 2A: Local Implementation Plan of the Statewide Brand-Update

Background:

CareerSource Brevard completed the statewide process of rebranding Brevard Workforce by the State’s deadline of January 31, 2014. The successful brand launch was made possible through the support of all CSB board and contractor staff and $104, 167 in state funding under guidance from CareerSource Florida, formerly known as Workforce Florida.

Status:

The State’s initial allocation of $62,500 was used by CSB to begin the rebranding effort and an additional $41, 667 in State incentive funds were awarded to CSB for having successfully achieved the State’s six brand criteria to implement and launch the unified brand.

State rebranding funds will support the rebrand effort throughout the program year and have been/currently are being used as follows:

• Application of new name and logo internally and among partners and vendors: e-signatures, forms, checks, proposals, badges, voicemail, bylaws, intranet and internet.

• Development of external outreach materials: (3) career center signage plus

mobile unit and wayfinding, print collateral, cards & stationery, direct mail and event presentation materials.

• Redesign of CSB Website, ICompel screens, (2) Facebook pages, YouTube channel, LinkedIn page, and Twitter page.

• Internal Brand training materials and three brand launch celebrations.

Page 12: Brevard Workforce Development Board€¦ · Hero fund raiser is complete and was a huge success. Further updates on the rebranding affects and the site’s design and functionality

• Development of multimedia tools: e-media templates, videos, radio and TV advertising, on-line advertising, bill board and public/media relations strategies.

Based on the scope of rebrand work required by the State, and historical outreach data from past re-brand efforts, CSB allocated an additional $50k in formula funds to properly support the brand launch and ongoing rebrand messaging throughout the program year. Fortunately with the implementation of the Brand plan in its final stages, Outreach found several cost savings among sign vendors, printers and use of state brand tools, which will enable the 50k in formula funds to re-join the CSB operating budget to support the next program year.

Next Steps:

Outreach continues to facilitate the tactics outlined in the Brand plan throughout the program year. In the next program year, no additional funds will be required to assist with the brand. Outreach efforts to reinforce the name change within the community will be handled internally with no paid media required.

Page 16: Brevard Workforce Development Board€¦ · Hero fund raiser is complete and was a huge success. Further updates on the rebranding affects and the site’s design and functionality

April 23, 2014

Information Brief

Measure 2C: Website Performance

Background: On February 10, 2014 BrevardWorkforce.com became CareerSourceBrevard.com, in adoption of the new CareerSource Florida brand. Through local agency support, all website pages were redesigned to meet brand standards, while maintaining the flow and integrity of the content, tools and resources available on the site. This approval also satisfied criteria 5/6 required for CareerSource Brevard to receive its share of incentive funding. Stats: Despite the branding changes, Outreach continues to provide updated content to the businesses and citizens of Brevard County. This quarter to quarter and year over year comparison reflects the anticipated initial affects from rebranding the website, including the url change/redirect. Easy Connect Forms on the website allow the user to request more information or to be contacted by a CSB staff person.

Page 17: Brevard Workforce Development Board€¦ · Hero fund raiser is complete and was a huge success. Further updates on the rebranding affects and the site’s design and functionality

Referring Sites: These were the sites (non-BW, non-search) that sent the most visitors to our site.

Visitors

o Visits to site from October 1 to December 31: 79,333 with mobile traffic of 8626

o Visits to site from January 1 to March 31: 76,677 with mobile traffic of 8,014

Did you know? Business forms on the website were consolidated into one form: Business Easy Connect, to expedite the process for Brevard businesses to contact CSB. Four options to request more information include: Job Postings, Upcoming Business Learning Events, Training Programs for new/current staff, Labor Market Information and Reduction In Force. Veteran friendly businesses can now be viewed on the website under: https://careersourcebrevard.com/job-seekers/military All new CSB collateral has been added to the Library menu under “Brochures and Publications” and the protected Outreach section of the site has been updated with new templates for staff to access and use.
