A Summer Journey with us at the Park Due to Bluegrass Sunday Service being held off‐site today, there is no Adult Sunday School Class, no Childcare, and no Children’s Church today. Please join us next week! 

 We offer one Adult Sunday School class at 9am in Bryans Room. We use FaithLink’s ready‐to‐use 

lessons, connecting faith to events and issues in the culture & in the church.   Topic for July 12: Worship and the Christian Life      

 On Sundays at 10am during the summer, quality care for newborns to three years or potty trained is provided by Barbara P‐Walker and a volunteer. Located in the Main Level of the Christian Ed Wing.  Nursery volunteer: July 12, Amber Rundle Kahn; July 19, Jamie Sayers 

  Please join Children ages 3.5 through 3rd grade are invited to Children’s Church, which is provided by Christina Pacheco and Hannah Westra.   Children gather in the lower level Noakes Hall, which is beneath our older Wasser chapel. Children will leave the Sanctuary for Children’s Church following the Children’s Message at the 10am service. 

 

Our worship time for the summer is 10am for both services. Our two services are our Combined service (held in the Sanctuary) and Peniel service (held in Wasser Chapel). We enjoy reception time together after the services in the Courtyard portico. 

Several noteworthy Sundays:  July 12, we will officially welcome Rev. Dale Beck to the 

  pulpit as our interim senior pastor. We will have an   Installation Litany to observe this important day. 

September 6, Labor Day Sunday  September 13, Kick‐off Sunday, we will resume our 8:30am,

This Week at UPark UMC

CHURCH SOFTBALL! Our league is co‐ed, and anyone who is older than age 15 or is turning 15 this year can play on our teams. We have two teams: Fire and Ice. We play against other area churches every Sunday during the summer at Progress Park, which is near W. Belleview and S. Broadway.  If you have questions or to express your interest in playing, please contact or see Larry Roggensack (303‐368‐8898) or Rob Eulenstein (303‐220‐0192).

The Foundation Campus Ministry @ DU is looking for families and groups to  provide Peanut Butter and Jelly sack lunches to the homeless community at Civic Center Park on Fridays this summer. These dates are open:  August 14,  August 28, and September 4. 

  What’s involved? ‐ Provide 50‐70 sack lunches including a PB&J sandwich, a piece of fruit, a snack, and a bottle  

of water. Make lunches at home the day before or at church on Friday morning. ‐ Accompany us to Civic Center Park to share the lunches. ‐ Depart from the UPark parking lot by 11:25am and return by 12:45pm at the latest. To

 Summer Book‐Read: Americanah by Nigerian Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie This summer UPUMC will have a book‐read and discussion of the very popular Americanah. It’s recommended for its honest observations of migration and racism by 2 migrants from Nigeria to the US and UK. Its popularity is also due to being a well written and entertaining story. Americanah is a national best seller and has received numerous awards, plus it’s 

a UMW’s recommended book for Social Action. We’ll meet 2 more times this summer: Thursday evenings, 6:30‐8:00 pm, July 9 and August 13 @ UPUMC. We’ll start with a video and then a discussion.  Participants are expected to bring their own copy of the book.  FYI, the Denver Public Library is out of copies.  Carol Jansch and Susan Livingston will facilitate and you can contact them with questions. Carol Jansch 303‐758‐0410 /Susan  Livingston (720‐480‐8762).  This is not limited to UMW nor UPUMC, but reading friends from outside UPUMC have been invited too.  

 KIDS CANS FOR KIDS – BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS!  Our latest can redemption for 2015 resulted in 78 pounds worth $31.20 for aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals; for a total of $263.40 thus far this year. We will continue to send these funds to the 

Children’s Hospital Chaplaincy Department to supply Bibles for patients and their families including Spanish Bibles and to supply other reading materials for their mobile interfaith book cart. NOTE:  Contributors please separate different types of metals as Atlas Metal & Iron Corp—the recycle establishment we use—requires that the different types are separated, weighed and valued individually.  

R.O.C.K. (Refugee Outreach: Clothing Kids) The 8th annual R.O.C.K. will be held at Christ Church UMC, 690 Colorado Blvd, Denver, from July 20 through 25th.  Green Mountain, Christ and UPark UMC will again partner in providing school clothes and 

supplies for the newly arrived refugees.  We are looking for monetary donations, school supplies and children’s coats. Please place in the refugee box in the entrance. We need volunteers Sunday, July 19 through Monday, July 27. Teens are welcome. We need delivery, set up, working with the families, inventory and tear down volunteers. There are multiple shifts for each day. Please register online.  www.RefugeeOutreachClothingKids.com. If you do not have a computer or have questions, please call Carol Cotter at 303‐360‐0223. The program grows every year.   

 Eating Disorders Anonymous in Denver Metro offers a 12‐step recovery from eating disorders 

emphasizing progress instead of rigidity and perfectionism. The only requirement for membership is the desire to recover from an eating disorder. For more information visit:

Troop 5 Yard Sale Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 1, 8am‐1pm for the Troop 5 Yard Sale. Donations of items for the sale are accepted. Church members can call Scoutmaster John Swift at (720) 877‐8852 to arrange a pick‐up of items. The Troop will also accept donations after worship services on July 12, 19, and 26 from 11‐11:30am at UPark. Thank you for your support! 

  You are invited to Run for Relief: Colorado         Saturday, July 11, 9:00 am‐ 5:00 pm. At Lowry Sports Complex: Soccer 4, Denver  Run for Relief will have a variety of sports: relay race, volley ball, cane ball,

DOWN TO THE RIVER TO PRAY 

   VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  Saturday, July 11, 2015 Community Work Day/Debris Clean Up 9:00 am— 4:00 pm 

*****Debby Lawrence will lead a group on that Saturday, leaving UPUMC at 8:00am for a day of work.  Anyone interested in helping, contact Debby at 303‐722‐5736 or dlawrence@universityparkumc.org.****   

 Spend the day outdoors helping the neighborhood clean‐up flood and tornado debris along the homes of Little Thompson River southwest of Berthoud.  Bring a sack lunch, wear work boots, work gloves and a sun hat! Water and snacks will be provided.  Minimum age: 14 YOA.  Those under 18 years of age need parental signed waiver.   DIRECTIONS:  from Hwy 287 south of Berthoud (north of Longmont) turn west on Larimer County Rd 4 go 3 miles to County Rd 23 and turn left.  Go 1 mile and turn right on 83rd St.  Follow signs to registration point.
