BRITISH CONTINGENT NEWS
On Easter Sunday morning at Xeros Camp. Headquar~ters of the 5th Irish Intanby Group, the fiftieth anni~
versaty of the Easter Rising of 1916 was remembered. The troops, drawn up in three ranks facing the flag
pole, stood to attention as the Irish Tricolour was slowlylowered to half-mast to the notes of The Last Post. Aftcrtwo minutes silence, the flag was raised to fUll mastheadto Reveille - signifying the resurrection in the next life.
The youngest oWcer of the Group, twenty-year oldSecond Lieutenant Tom Hicl{ey, then read 'The ProclamH"tion of the Iri'3h Republic', as did P.R. Pe,arse, the Commander of the Republican Forces, on the steps of the General Post Office in Dublin, on Easter Monduy, fifty years ago.
Thus did the young soldiers of modern Ireland, servingthe United Nations in the cause of peace, honoUl' the memory of those who died that their country might live.

SECURITY COUNCIL AUTHORISES BRITAIN TOUSE FORCE IF NECESSARY TO HALT TANKERS
_ AFRICAN MOVES FOR STRONGER ACTIONFAI'L TO GET NECESSARY MAJORITY VOTE
The United Nations Security Council meeting in New Yorkon Saturday night authorised Britain to use force if
necessary to intercept tankers reasonably believed to becarrying oil fOI' Rhodesia in breach of tile embargo called forby the Council last November.
The action was taken on thebasis of a British draft resolution approved by ten votesin favour to none against andwith five abstentions. The resolution also called on Portugal not to receive oil destinedfor Rhodesia at Beira in Portuguese administered Mozambique, nor to permit it to bepumped through the pipelinefrom Beira to Rhodesia, andit called upon all States to ensure diversion of any of theirvessels reasonably believed tobe carrying oil destined forRhodesia.
'.rhe resolution fm·ther expressed grave concern at'reports that substantial supplies of oil might reachRhodesia as the result of onetanlter - Joanna V - havingarrived at Beira and the approach of another one - theMannuclla. The resolution declared that such supplies would bolster the illegal regimeill Rhodesia and that theresulting situation constituteda threat to peace. In additionto calling upon Britain toprevent the arrival of suspecttanlters at Beira, the resolutionempowered that country toarrest and detain J oawla V
. upon her departure fromBeira if her oil cargo wasdischarged there.
African amendmen' s seekinp, broader and Btronger Councilaction in the Rhodesian situation failed to receive the ninevote major!' y required for adoption. Amendments, sponsoredby Mali, Nigeria and Uganda, would have Britain use force if necessary to impose atotal embargo on oil and anyo' her supplies that might beshipped to Rhodesia.
