New Kindergarten Parent

Information Night

Walking Wednesdays – April 13th Last week in the Globe and Mail there was an article about the benefits of students walking school in their neighbourhood. The benefits included getting exercise from walking and feeling ready to start a day of learning. While walking to school students can connect with their community members and other students. Walking to school reduces the number of cars being driven around the neighbourhood, which helps the environment and traffic congestion.

LETS GET WALKING BESSBOROUGH! Safety Tip: When crossing the street, stop, look both ways and make eye contact with the driver before crossing the street.

Sports at Bessborough: At the start of the year students could participate in x-country plus one of football or slopitch (fall sports), two of volleyball, basketball or badminton (winter sports), and track plus one of ultimate or soccer (spring sports). When we added hockey to the list of winter sports we decided to allow three of the four winter sports. A significant factor in this decision was due to the fact that some coaches were finding it difficult to get enough kids to form a team. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions please contact [email protected] .

Yearbooks for Sale! You have another chance to buy a Yearbook to commemorate the 2015-16 school year at Bessborough! You can purchase on our website through Munch A Lunch (munchalunch.com/schools/bessborough). Don’t remember if you bought one? Just log onto your Munch A Lunch account to check. Deadline is fast approaching! Don’t miss out on this special keepsake! Hungry to Help? In case you missed the memo from your class parent, we need your help to keep a well-loved tradition going! The Pizza Lunch chairs are hanging up their aprons after more than 3 years of service and that means we need a new team to take over this role for next year. It is an easy to run fundraiser and is a highlight every month for students. We need 2 co-chairs and 3 other helpers. The commitment is 6 lunches plus time at the beginning of the year to set up the program. For more info, please contact Allison Rands at [email protected] or Corey Ginou at [email protected]. We can’t do this without you! Since we’re asking for help…. We are still looking for volunteers to host 2 Social Series Events: Bessborough at Sky Zone - 3 volunteers to host the event. It typically requires 4 hours of work and the event will take place in June. Bessborough Pub Crawl - 3 houses to host the event. The event will take place late September 2016. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions, please email Remy at [email protected] or Cabrina at [email protected]. H&S Meeting - Class & Staffing Models to be Presented A final reminder that our next H&S meeting is this Tuesday April 12th at 7pm in the library. You can find the agenda on our website. Ms. Broderick will be presenting the 2016-17 class and staffing models and some teachers will be presenting cool learning activities in their classrooms that our H&S funds are supporting. As always, there will be free babysitting in the mini-gym. Hope to see you there! Bessborough has Talent! We had a great week of auditions and the final Bessies list has now been posted. So now it’s time to get your tickets for the Big Show! Tickets go on sale online this Monday April 11th at 9am. Once again, we are offering a limited number of reserved tickets so act fast! There is also general admission and special pricing for students and teachers. Follow this link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/the-bessies-tickets-24383582953 Appreciation Corner A big THANK YOU to the Bessies Committee - Natasha Seigel, Marina Stoeva, Jen Comish and Angie Robb - for all their hard work putting this much-loved event together. Everyone is excited to see the final result! Visit www.bessboroughhomeandschool.com now for details on all of this and more!
