Your District Governor’s Message Lions of District 24C,

As I write this, I am finalizing preparations for the

Fall Conference. By the time you read this, it will be over.

We have planned for a fun and informative Fall

Conference and I hope you enjoyed it.

We are also planning for the Mid-Winter

Conference. Just as we did last year, we are planning a

joint conference with District 24A. The conference will be

at the Best Western/Peppers Restaurant in Culpeper on February 3, 2018. We will have International Director

Don Noland as our international guest for the weekend. We are planning some informative and interesting

sessions for the morning and will have our individual district meetings in the afternoon. Since we do not

publish the Bark of the ‘C’ Lion in December, this will be the last newsletter before January. We will include

the registration form and more information about the Mid-Winter Conference in the January Bark. Save the

date now!

November is Lions Diabetes Awareness Month. This is the month where we focus on those in our

community who are afflicted with this terrible disease. Many walk around with it slowly deteriorating their

bodies and do not even know they have it until it is too late. Diabetes can deteriorate the extremities,

particularly toes and feet. It can damage the cardiovascular system. And it is the leading cause of blindness.

Diabetes, with proper diagnosis and treatment can be arrested to prevent this damage. During November,

plan and execute educational programs to educate your members and others in your community about the

dangers of diabetes left untreated. Plan a blood glucose screening for the community. Check with a local

health provider to see how your club can support diabetic needs in your community. Diabetes Chairperson

Susan Golladay can also assist you with program or project ideas.

December and January are Relieving the

Hunger Centennial Service Challenge Months. We

will soon be entering the “holiday season” with

Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year

District Governor’s Message (cont. from p. 1)

As we plan our own festivities, it is a time to think

about those less fortunate than ourselves.

Many clubs prepare and distribute

Thanksgiving and/or Christmas baskets, and gifts

for the children in our communities who are in

need. Others do coat drives and other projects to

assist the needy. We have so much to be thankful

for and it feels great to provide a little support for

someone in need. I am also thankful for all of you

who do so much to make life a little better for

others. Thank you all for your contributions.

I wish you a Joyous Thanksgiving, Merry

Christmas, and Happy New Year.

As always, please feel free to contact me if I

can be of service to you or your club or if you have

events that you want me to participate in.

Thanks to each of you for being a LEADER

Visitation Guidelines for 2017-2018

District 24-C

Purpose

One of the historically important Lions traditions has been visitation. Visitation facilitates the sharing of ideas between

clubs and promotes support. It is an opportunity to observe what makes clubs successful and some pitfalls to avoid. It is

also a chance to make new friendships and cooperate in shared activities. What you learn through visitation can make

your club stronger.

Goal

The Lion Governor’s goal is for every Lion to make a visit and every club to make five visits during the 2017-2018 Lion

year. A Governor’s award will be presented to the Lion, Lioness, or Leo club in Class categories A, B, C (see

Qualifications Requirements for a Visitation below), who attains the most total points in accordance with the rules.

General Guidance

Each Club is requested to appoint a Club Visitation Chair. The Club Visitation Chair will provide his or her name, address,

telephone number and e-mail address to District Visitation Chair, Lion Hal Ladehoff, no later than September 1, 2017.

The information may be mailed or e-mailed to:

Lion Hal Ladehoff

136 Abraham Ct.

Woodstock, VA 22664-3051

[email protected]

Phone contact is (540) 459-9326

Dates

The Visitation Program begins July 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2018

Visitation Reports

The Club Visitation Chair will submit quarterly reports (October 5, 2017, January 5, 2018, April 5, 2018, and July 5, 2018).

The report will include Club Name, number of active members, names of members making visits, names of the Clubs

visited and dates of the visits. Include copies of the visitation forms.

Qualification Requirements for a Visitation

Class A: Clubs with 30 or fewer active members. One or more members are required when visiting another Lions club to

make it an official visit.

Class B: Clubs with 31-55 active members. Two or more members are required when visiting another club to make it an

official visit; credit will not be give if less than two members visits.
