AVR ZIF Programmer

AVR ZIF Programmer is not a programmer per se but it’s an extension board

for our USBASP Programmer using which one can program AVR’s 40 pin

micro-controller (ATmega16, ATmega32); 28 pin micro-controller

(ATmega8, ATmega32, etc…) along with AT89s51 / 52 micro-controller.

Features: Operating Voltage: 5V DC (Powered using USB Programmer).

Compatible for ATmega16, ATmega8, AT89s51 similar controllers.

Easy interface due to 10 pin FRC Connector.

Using the module for AVR Series Microcontroller:

To program ATMEL micro-controllers for AVR series one has to use the ZIF

Connector provided on the board. The following diagram shows how to place

coressponding micro-controller onto the board.

Using the module for AVR ATmega8 / 328 (28 Pin ICs):

While using this board to program 28 pin IC like ATmega8 /

328, place the IC in the middle of the ZIF connector leaving 3

spaces at the top and 3 spaces at the bottom. Also the IC notch

should face downwards as shown in picture below.

Keep in mind the jumper should not be shorted.

Ideally use software like WinAVR since it is both a code complier and

hex burner.

Using the module for AVR ATmega16 / 32 (40 Pin ICs):

While using this board to program 40 pin IC like ATmega16 /

32, place the IC notch facing upwards as shown in picture

below.

Keep in mind the jumper should be shorted to program 40 Pin micro-

controller.

Ideally use software like WinAVR since it is both a code complier and

hex burner.

Using the module for ATMELs AT89S51 / 52:

To program ATMEL micro-controllers for AT89S51 series one

has to use the 40 Pin IC base provided on the board.

While using this board to program 40 pin IC like AT89S51 /

52, place the IC notch facing upwards as shown in picture

below.

Keep in mind the jumper should not be shorted to program 40 Pin

micro-controller.

Ideally use software like Keil as a code complier and ProgISP as a hex

burner.

Note that while programming AT89S51 / 52 one might need to press

reset button till the process is complete.
