BACKGROUND

Most UPVC doors are secured with a replaceable barrel known as a Euro Profile cylinder as shown.

Over the past few years there has been a rise in forced entry break-ins using a method know as lock snapping.

New standards have now been developed to test a euro cylinders resistance against snapping attacks.

ABS high security locks with the 3 star British Kitemark and Sold Secure Diamond standard will ensure that a door is secured if an intruder attempts to snap the lock.

Please note only the 3 star Kitemark and the Diamond grade test for snapping. A one star graded Kitemark lock has not passed snapping tests.

In as little as 13 seconds an intruder can get past a standard euro cylinder door lock using simple DIY tools. Lock Snapping has fast become one of the most common lock bypass methods for quick and easy access.

THE SOLUTION The ABS cylinder lock has clever patented Snap Secure technology that keeps the central cam in place if the cylinder has been snapped, so any would-be burglar won’t have access to the inside of the cylinder or the inside of your home.

The common euro cylinder lock on most home and garage doors has a major weakness located around the screw fixing position which means when pressure is applied the lock simply snaps.

It doesn’t matter how many hooks and bolts your door has. The euro cylinder is the weakest link.

Burglars are aware of this weakness and lock snapping break-ins are rising as a result.

Police are now advising homeowners to review their locks to upgrade to new TS007 British Kitemark 3 star and

Sold Secure Diamond rated locks.

The Solution is ABS - The ultimate Diamond rated high security Euro Cylinder. Directly replaces Euro Cylinder locks that are vulnerable to snapping attacks.

Front sacrificial section snaps off when forcefully attacked.

ABS effectively combats against lock snapping attacks for total security

BSI TS007:2014 is the revised British Kitemark for euro cylinders and security hardware.

This new Kitemark uses criteria of the past Kitemark tests, i.e. BS EN 1303:2005 and BS 3621:2007 and PAS24:2007 but now has additional tests which use a common method of attack known as “lock snapping”.

Euro cylinders and security hardware will now be classified under the TS007 British Kitemark with the use of a star rating system.

Euro cylinders can be rated as one star or three stars and security hardware will be rated as two stars.

Cylinders are awarded a three star rating when they have passed all criteria of the TS007 British Standard Kitemark including new lock snapping tests.

A one star rating is given to a cylinder lock that has met criteria of the British Kitemark but has not passed snapping tests. The locks would require additional 2 star rated security hardware to reach a TS007 3 star Kitemark.

The ABS snap secure lock does not require additional security handles or guards which are often difficult to install in a retro-fit application.

The ABS snap secure lock is a 3 star Kitemark accredited lock that is a retro-fit solution that replaces a standard lock with no other costly hardware or door modifications.

Most importantly the ABS lock is also accredited with the Sold Secure Diamond standard. The Master Locksmith Associations highest standard for cylinder locks.

The SS312 Sold Secure Diamond standard has similar tests to the British Kitemark but differs in that an experienced locksmith will attack the cylinder with drills and lock snapping bars. This really pushes the cylinder to prove its security features.

The Sold Secure diamond standard rates the robustness of the cylinder alone so if it’s diamond graded no security handle or guard is required.

NEW STANDARDS FOR EURO PROFILE CYLINDER LOCKS

CHOICES An ABS three star British Kitemark rated lock is a simple retro-fit upgrade. If a lower grade one star Kitemark lock is used an additional 2 star rated security handle or cylinder guard must also be installed to comply with the Kitemark.

Simple retro-fit ABS 3 star and Sold Secure Diamond rated. A direct replacement - a snap secure solution.

2 star rated security hardware to be used - not easy to retrofit due to existing screw holes for old handles.

Door Security Guarantee Terms & Conditions

The £2000 Door Hardware Guarantee

Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd designs and supplies door hardware to the highest levels of security demanded by our industry. Our multipoint door locks meet the requirements of PAS024 door security testing, as do our door hinges and our ABS euro profile cylinder meets the strictest TS007 3* testing criteria laid down by our industry. Given that we offer this unprecedented level of security on our door hardware we have the confidence to state that if your customers buy a door fitted with our hardware** (specification shown below) we will guarantee that in the unfortunate event of a break in, if the break in was due to a failure of the Avocet Hardware*** then Avocet will pay up to £1000 to replace the door and a further £1000 in compensation to the homeowner.

The £2000 Door Hardware Guarantee applies provided that:

1. Doors covered by guarantee are deadlocked by the keys provided and the key is removed from the ABS cylinder.

2. The guarantee form provided has been filled in and completed (online or by post) and received within 30 days of the installation and received by us not less than 1 month prior to any claim being made. Avocet cannot accept responsibility for any lost, spoiled or illegible forms.

3. The products have been fitted by an Avocet approved fabricator or installer. Any deviation in product choice must be validated by Avocet in writing.

4. The door and associated hardware have been maintained in accordance with the care and maintenance instructions provided.

5. Any claims are made in writing or submitted via the online form within 14 days of the break-in providing details of the incident and MUST include the crime reference number provided by the Police Authority the crime was reported to. An Avocet Technical representative will conduct a brief but detailed investigation within 7 days of the reported break-in. Any replaced or broken hardware MUST be made available for inspection. After investigation if the report confirms that the hardware items relating to the compensation guarantee were correctly fitted and maintained, according to our instructions, and failed due to a forced entry, the claim will be processed within 14 days of the inspection.

6. Avocet reserve the right to appoint its own or a selected installer to conduct the replacement of the products or the door, whichever is deemed necessary by Avocet.

7. Only one claim per installation is permissible within the guarantee period which commences at the installation date, confirmed by the fitters site report on request. The guarantee is valid for 5 years from date of installation. Guarantee is valid for UK mainland installations and applies to domestic homeowners properties only. Offer is valid on installations upto 31/12/15.

8. Your statutory rights will not be affected by this guarantee.

** UPVC Doors must have: Avocet 2 hook 4 roller door lock or Avocet 2 hook 2 roller door lock, ABS High Security TS007 3* Cylinder, Affinity 3D hinges, and Affinity Door Handles.Composite Doors must have: Avocet Affinity 4 Hook Door Lock, ABS High Security TS007 3* Cylinder, Avocet Composite Door Hinges, Affinity Door Handles.*** Avocet approved installer will undertake an investigation and if proved that the hardware failed as a result of forced attack the claim will be verified.

THE DOOR SECURITY GUARANTEE DOES NOT APPLY TO DOUBLE OR MULTIPLE PANE DOORS.DOORS MUST HAVE BEEN DEADLOCKED WITH THE KEYS PROVIDED AND KEYS REMOVED FROM THE DOOR.

Avocet Terms & Conditions of Sale

1. The Contract1.1 In these standard terms and of conditions of sale, the contract means your purchase

order for goods as accepted by us either orally or in writing. If the goods are to be delivered by instalments, each instalment will constitute a separate contract.

1.2 Once accepted by us, your purchase order cannot be cancelled, postponed or altered in any way, without our consent. Unless otherwise agreed by us in writing, and subject to condition 3.9, we do not trade on a sale or return basis.

1.3 Unless otherwise agreed by us in writing, these conditions will apply to the contract to the exclusion of any customary trade terms or terms or conditions of yours, and supersede any previous terms of trade between us. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between these conditions and any other terms of the contract, these conditions will prevail.

1.4 No person acting or purporting to act on our behalf has any authority orally to add to or vary any of the terms of the contract or to waive any of our rights under it, and no such addition, variation or waiver shall have any effect unless agreed by us in writing. No waiver by us of any of our rights under the contract will be considered to constitute a general waiver of those or any other such rights.

1.5 The contract will be with you the sole trader, partnership or limited company as detailed in your last accepted Credit Application form. Any changes in that status must be notified to us in writing immediately, and we reserve the right to discontinue dealings with you until you have completed and we have accepted a fresh such form. Until that has been done, you will remain liable, jointly and severally with the trading entity evidenced by the change, to pay us for goods supplied as if that change had not taken place. You may not assign or otherwise transfer the contract without our prior written consent, and no-one other than you and your permitted assignees will have any rights under the contract, whether under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 or otherwise.

1.6 The contract will be governed by the laws of England, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts in all matters relating to it.

2. The Goods2.1 All drawings, descriptive matter, price lists, catalogues, brochures, websites, and

other promotional material of ours are approximate only and intended merely to give a general idea of the goods, and will not form part of the contract. Since we continuously try to improve the quality of our goods, they will also be subject to changes in design, materials, components and finishes. You will accept the goods subject to such variations in size, colour and finish as are within normally accepted manufacturing tolerances.

2.2 Whilst the goods will comply with all applicable standards and other regulatory requirements in the United Kingdom, we will not be responsible for ensuring that they comply with any such requirements elsewhere.

2.3 You acknowledge that all intellectual property rights, including unregistered design right, copyright, registered designs and patents in the United Kingdom, and other similar rights elsewhere, in all goods that are proprietary to us and their drawings, designs and specifications, will belong to us absolutely, and you will at our expense take such steps as we may reasonably request to establish, prosecute and defend those rights.

3. Delivery and Risk3.1 The goods will be delivered to such delivery address in the United Kingdom as you

have last given to us when your purchase order is placed or such other address as we may agree. Where the delivery address is outside the United Kingdom, the goods will be delivered ex works, but we will, at your request, make arrangements on your behalf and at your expense for their carriage to such delivery point as you may designate.

3.2 Whilst we will use reasonable efforts to do so, we will not be obliged to comply with any delivery procedures of yours. You will have given authority to accept delivery on your behalf to any person who purports to accept delivery of the goods at the delivery address. You will accept delivery at any time during your normal business hours.

3.3 Part deliveries are permitted. You will not be entitled to reject a delivery or deliveries of the goods if they are within 10% of all or any of the numbers, sizes, types or finishes ordered.

3.4 We will use our reasonable efforts to despatch or deliver the goods within the delivery period agreed by us, but time for delivery will not be of the essence, and we will not be liable for any loss whatsoever caused by late delivery. In any event, we reserve the right to cancel all or part of your purchase order or suspend or delay delivery, without liability to you, if the supply of the goods is prevented or delayed because of any circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

3.5 We will not be liable for any shortage in the goods as delivered, unless it is notified to us in writing within 5 business days of delivery, or complete non-delivery of the goods, unless it is notified to us in writing within 5 business days of date of receipt of invoice.

3.6 We will not be liable for any damage to or deterioration of the goods as delivered, unless it is notified to us within 24 hours of delivery, and you promptly return the goods concerned to us with the return note number obtained from us.

3.7 The risk of loss or deterioration of or damage to the goods will be borne by you from delivery.

3.8 If you are unable or unwilling to accept delivery of the goods in accordance with these conditions on arrival of our vehicle at the delivery site on the delivery date notified to you, we may retain the goods and arrange for or provide the storage and insurance of the goods concerned as we think appropriate at your expense. Where we provide such storage, we will be entitled to charge you at our then current standard rates for storage. The appropriation or despatch of any of the goods for storage in accordance with this condition will be treated as constituting their delivery to you in accordance with the contract for all the purposes of these conditions.

3.9 You may return all or any the goods, provided that we have agreed to their return in writing, they are returned to us within 5 business days of delivery in the same condition as when delivered, and subject to your paying us a re-stocking charge at the rate of 30% of our invoiced price plus any carriage incurred by us and VAT.

4. Prices and Payment4.1 Where we have agreed to supply the goods over a period of more than three months

from the date of the contract, the prices of the goods delivered after the three month period will be adjusted to reflect any increase in our standard prices as at the date of delivery or, where the goods are supplied to your specification, increased by the proportion of any increase in our costs of production of the goods between the date of our order acknowledgement and the date of despatch.

4.2 Total cost of goods excludes carriage. The cost of carriage will be advised at the point of order. The prices for the goods and any other sums due to us do not include any applicable VAT or import duties outside the EC, which will be charged extra. Any queries on our invoices must be made within 5 business days of their receipt.4.3 Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the prices for the goods and any other sums due

to us will be payable by the end of the month following that of the date of invoice.You are not entitled to any discount for early payment. If you fail to pay any sum tous on the due date, or you make a voluntary arrangement with your creditors, havea receiver appointed, or a petition is presented for your administration, winding-upor bankruptcy, or you enter into liquidation or we have reason to believe and notifyyou in writing that you will be unable to pay your debts to us as they fall due, all sumsowed by you will become immediately due and payable, and we will be entitled torequire payment prior to further manufacture or delivery of the goods, or to cancel,suspend or terminate all or any further manufacture or delivery of the goods, withoutincurring any liability to you.

4.4 All sums due to us will be paid in full and without any discount, deduction or set-of fwhatsoever. We may charge you interest on any sums not paid to us by the due dateat the rate of 1% per whole or part month, and you will reimburse us for all debtcollection and legal costs and expenses incurred by us in attempting to recover suchsums. We may treat any sums received from you as being in payment first of anysuch costs and expenses, then interest accrued, and then all other amounts owedto us in date order, starting with the oldest, regardless of any disputes or your attributionof payment to any particular invoices.

4.5 The property in the goods will not pass to you until you have paid us for them andall other sums invoiced to you, and until that time you will keep them separate fromother goods in such a way as to indicate clearly that they remain our property andin the condition in which they were delivered by us. Until the property in the goodshas passed, you will hold them as our fiduciary, and we will be entitled to have accessto your premises at all reasonable times to inspect and remove them, but you mayuse and sell the goods as our agents in the ordinary course of your business, unlessand until we terminate your authority to do so by written notice, or you have a petitionpresented for or enter into liquidation, administration or administrative receivership,on any of which events such authority shall stand revoked. We may bring an actionfor the price of the goods even though the property in them may not have passedto you.

5. Warranty and Liability5.1.1 Where the goods are proprietary to us or supplied to your specification, we will at our

option rectify or replace such of them as are shown to our reasonable satisfaction to contain defects in design, materials or workmanship, other than such as resultdirectly or indirectly from your specification, when properly installed, used andmaintained under normal domestic conditions, provided that the alleged defects andour applicable batch and delivery note details are notified in writing to us within oneyear from the date of delivery of the goods, that the goods are at all times followingdelivery kept in suitable conditions, that we are given every opportunity to inspectand test the goods concerned at your premises, and that, if we so request, you returnall or any of them to our premises. If any of the goods concerned prove to ourreasonable satisfaction not to be defective or you give us the wrong batch or deliverynote details, we will be entitled to make a reasonable charge for our efforts inestablishing whether or not the goods are defective.

5.1.2 Where the goods are proprietary to our suppliers, we will to the extent that we areable to do so, transfer to you the benefit of whatever warranties and other rights wehave received from the suppliers.

5.2 Except as required or agreed by us, you will not in any circumstances return any ofthe goods to us, and where the property in any of the goods returned to us haspassed to you, they will nevertheless remain your property and at your risk unless wehave agreed otherwise in writing before their return.

5.3 Except as stated above, we will not be liable for any direct, consequential or otherloss, damage or injury suffered or incurred by you, and you will indemnify us fullyagainst any claims made by third parties, in respect of the goods or otherwise arisingfrom the contract. Our liability will in any event be limited to the price of the goodsconcerned. Nothing contained in the contract will, however, be treated as excludingor restricting any liability on our part for death or personal injury resulting fromour negligence.

5.4 Except as stated above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, all conditions,warranties and representations, whether express or implied, statutory or otherwisein relation to the goods (other than such as relate to title to the goods) are excluded.

5.5 You acknowledge that our prices for the goods are based upon these conditions ofsale, and accordingly that you accept the above limitations on and exclusions ofliability in exchange for those prices.

6. Data Protection Act6.1 Where you are a sole proprietor or partnership, you agree that we may from time to

time seek to check your identity, and your creditworthiness and that of any otherindividuals found to be recorded at your address, with credit reference agencies andothers, and record the information received from them. You understand that yourpersonal information will only be used by us to decide whether to extend credit termsto you, in the credit management of your account. We may also discloseyour personal information to credit reference agencies and by way of response torequests for trade references from other businesses.

SERVICE LEVEL COMMITMENT

This statement has been formulated to demonstrate the Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd Service Level Commitment to our customers. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive range of product guarantees1 supported by our unique Continuity of Supply guarantee.It is the stated objective of Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd to ensure complete ex-stock availability of all products backed by standard or express carriage service tailored to Customer requirements.The Service Level Commitment does not confer any rights other than those expressly set out above and does not cover any claims for any other direct or consequential loss or damage howsoever caused.The Service Level Commitment herein is subject to the respective Customer account(s) with Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd being within the prescribed credit limit and agreed payment terms.

MECHANICAL WARRANTY

All Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd parts are covered by 10 year conditional mechanical warranty, starting from the date of purchase from Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd. ‘Phocas’ friction stays have a lifetime conditional mechanical warranty, starting from the date of purchase from Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd. (Please refer to data sheets for specific details.)

HARDWARE FINISHES WARRANTY

Surface finishes are covered by a conditional warranty, in their installed condition. Due to variations in installed circumstances, corrosion ratings are provided on individual product data sheets. These ratings are given relative to a standard controlled, corrosive environment (Neutral Salt Spray). The ratings provided are intended to cover main surfaces for a minimum of 5 years in a normal installation. (Please refer to relevant data sheet for specific details.)

*(i) The presence of additional aggressive contaminants, (e.g. industrial pollutants, cleaning chemicals etc. ), proximity to salt laden atmosphere, and/or incorrect maintenance, can significantly reduce the corrosion resistance performance of the product.

In the event of a coating4 failure of the product within the 5 year warranty period, Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd will provide a free replacement or will refund the original price paid for the product. It is a condition of this warranty that the product is correctly installed and is not subjected to adverse environmental conditions from thereon. Installations in coastal and other high risk areas are not covered by this warranty. In such areas, the stainless steel alternative should be used, for which the same 5 year corrosion warranty applies.This warranty does not confer any rights other than those expressly set out above and does not cover any claims for any other direct or consequential loss or damage, howsoever caused.This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights.

GOLD FINISH & BRASSWARE CARE AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

These instructions should be carefully read by the purchaser.Gold Finish & solid brass door furniture should be installed and maintained in accordance with the Care and Maintenance instructions as follows:-Fitting: During fitting, particularly when tightening screws, avoid overtightening or contact with the product surface bysharp objects as this could damage the protective coating, affecting the appearance and durability of the product.Maintenance: The superior polishing and coating of the product eliminates the need for regular polishing or cleaning. When cleaning do not use abrasive products or solvents such as metal polish, scouring pads, acetone etc. Use a soft duster or damp chamois leather to remove dust and surface dirt. In outdoor applications the only additional maintenance required is the application of a wax polish with a soft duster at 3 to 4 monthly intervals.

CONDITIONS APPLYING TO AVOCET HARDWARE (UK) LTD GUARANTEES

a) The customer must supply proof of the date of purchase of the products concerned.b) The guarantee will not apply to any product which has been incorrectly fitted.c) The guarantee will not apply to products which have been misused, abused or subjected to forces and stresses which are beyond those which are usual for the normal operation of the product.d) The guarantee will not apply in instances where the Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd care and maintenance instructions have not been adhered to.e) Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd is responsible for the replacement of defective products only. Claims for any other direct or consequential loss or damage will not be accepted, howsoever caused.f) Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd reserves the right to refund the original price of the product or provide a free direct replacement product.g) Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd will not accept responsibility for claimed defective parts where Avocet Hardware (UK) Ltd has not beenprovided with the opportunity to inspect the product concerned on site.
