Costa Rica Mission Trip
We still have the GREEN LIGHT on the 2021 Costa Rica mission trip! There are 13 presently signed
up to go and the team will be capped at 20 members. The sign up sheet is on the table in the
vestibule across from the coffee station in the sanctuary lobby. A deposit of $50 per team member
is required by United Airlines and assures you a place on the team! This is refundable should you
not go. This needs to be paid ASAP! The date of the trip is January 30 - February 7, 2021. If you
have any questions, see or call Bro. Jim "Padre" Powell. 939-3616
P.S. If there is the slightest danger from the present virus, we will not go!

Worship Corner
As July swelters into August, I’d like to give you some updates from the music and worship corner.
The BIG news is that an anonymous person graciously offered to match funds up to $25,000
towards the purchase of livestream equipment and Sanctuary audio upgrades. Thanks be to God
and to Him be all glory! We are looking over the bids and proposals for camera and digital audio
equipment that will enable us to strengthen our online presence in the community and abroad, as
well as greatly enhance the sound quality of our in-house worship. Throughout this process I am
so grateful for the efforts, insights and talents of Eric Grubb, Russ Broomell and Brad Pabian for
this implementation. Recently, Russ highlighted the stats of our Vimeo online viewership from May
31st
to July 11th
which notes our increasing impact.
Additionally, we have folks who may attend church on Sunday and then watch again throughout the
week. Many thanks to Delores, who has been working hard on our newly updated webpage; please
remember to share and mention crestwoodmethodist.com where links to our services can be found.
In August, we will be blessed on the 9th
with the addition of some of our Sanctuary Carillons
(handbells) on a hymn arrangement. Also in August there will be special music from Morgan and
Jenna Jemtrud and hopefully a special song by Caroline Pabian!
I would like to close with portions of a recent article from Church Production online magazine that
addresses the additional challenges many churches have been struggling with since March. I can
relate so well; and have certainly entered a realm that is far beyond my skill set and comfort level!

The author references the story of Gideon:
During this current season of national crisis, some of us may be in the same boat as Gideon. We
are inexperienced with certain kinds of technology or leading teams. We are learning on the fly. We
are undeveloped, not properly schooled, neither professionally certified nor trained.
But where we see ourselves as incapable and undeserving, God sees us for the potential he has
placed inside of us. We are scared and confused and have no idea how to do some of the things
we’ve been asked to do.
But when God showed himself to Gideon through a sign in Judges 6, Gideon then built an altar
whose name was “The Lord Is Peace” (Judges 6:24 NIV).
He knew that, as overwhelmed and uncertain as he was, God’s presence would be with him to give
him peace. It’s the same truth that Paul knew in Philippians 4:7 NIV, where he proclaims that the
peace of God “transcends all understanding.”
When we are over our heads, supernatural peace is only a quick prayer away. And that peace has
the ability to then provide us with an amazing sense of confidence, not only in ourselves, but in
God’s ability to carry us through the situation.
“God is raising us up to be an army of difference-makers. We may see ourselves as incapable, but
he sees us as mighty warriors, capable of doing far more amazing things than we’ve ever dreamed
of.” Justin Firesheets, CP
Please join me in fervent prayer for CUMC as we take this Goliath-sized tech step into the future.
Pray for Godly, discerning discussions and for all the decisions regarding purchase of equipment,
and the possibility of a paid person to oversee our tech operations. While we are still dealing with
the seriousness of Covid-19, I have faith that God is moving and breathing His purpose into His
world through His church.

Sunday School Update
The Heavenbound Class of CUMC has been gathering each week via Zoom and have been studying
the subject of Prayer - a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for satan. It’s a study
that by happenstance occurred simultaneously during Pastor Ted’s sermon series on the same
subject. We’ve been learning that Prayer is far more than requests, petitions and praise. At its
deepest level, prayer is a uniquely intimate relationship builder between a believer and God
through Jesus Christ.
Here are a few of the lesson topics we’ve explored:
• What is Prayer ... How does it Affect You?
• How Must we Pray?
• The Model Prayer
• Locks and Keys of Prayer
• Prayer and Spiritual Warfare
• Praying Specifically and Strategically (Parts 1 & 2)
• Unanswered Prayer
The Heavenbound Class invites you to come join us as we seek to deepen our relationship with
Christ and with each other through this and future studies, retreats, ministry projects and fellow-
ship events. We are a close family of marrieds and singles, who genuinely care for one another.
Come share, learn, laugh and love with us! We welcome all adults to become a part of our family.
Steve Rudy (502.526.8511 call or text) can get you connected to Zoom. We meet there at 9:00a.m.
each Sunday morning. That gives those that would like to attend in-person worship the opportuni-
ty to do so. We look forward to seeing you there until such time as we meet together in person
once again. Welcome and Thank You!! The Heavenbounders

Triple L—Senior Ministry
Triple L Seniors is again hosting a couple of outdoor dinner options.
First, on Wednesday August 5, we will have an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social at 6:30pm. We
welcome volunteers to make their special homemade ice cream, pack it in ice, and bring it to the
front gravel lot at church. Bring your folding chairs and join us sitting in the shade by the parson-
age. Please contact Joy to let her know if you will bring ice cream and what flavor(s) you will bring.
Wednesday August 12, from 5-7pm, we will host another Food Truck dinner called “Peace Love &
Eggrolls”. Dinner will be set up for carry out or stay and eat outside. These egg rolls have creative
fillings such as Philly cheese steak, veggie, mac and cheese, buffalo chicken, taco and chicken
Philly. French fries and drinks will also be available.
These outdoor meals will follow guidelines for social distancing and we ask that you only sit close
to your immediate family members. Bring your mask, your own chairs and some hand sanitizer or
disposable wipes.
These outdoor meals are created to keep us in contact without GAFFA. We truly hope that soon we
can gather indoors for meals in the CLC. Until then, keep coming up with creative ways to keep an
eye on your family, friends, and neighbors. We are still in this together.

Sewing Ministry Update
The UMW sewing ministry has been making fidget lap blankets for those individuals in heath care
facilities who like to keep their hands busy. Recently these were used at Pewee Valley Health Care
and Rehab. The idea is to make soft cuddly pillows with a lot of texture, ribbons, buttons and lace
to invite touching. These help benefit many dementia patients. Making fidgets will be the empha-
sis now as we continue to work from home.
Fellowship Hall Renovations
Thank you to Tina Rose and the preschool for the recent upgrades to the kitchen in the Fellowship
Hall! The preschool has paid to have the flooring upgraded to a new, waterproof vinyl plank
flooring that matches the flooring recently installed in the church offices. The trustees completed
the work for the church and also installed a brand new water heater, wash tub and ceiling fan.
Birthday Thank you
Dear Church Family,
Thanks to everyone for all the cards Mom received on her 103 Birthday. Were trying for that
number of cards and she received 117. The love shown from these cards was wonderful and she
appreciated them so much. A great Birthday with a group from choir and congregation singing
Happy Birthday on that day. Thanks also to all who stopped to say Hello. We do appreciate
everything.

Masks for Students
Thank you From Andy Sears
The Oldham County school students are going to need a lot of masks this school year. There are
12,500 students in Oldham County. The masks can be homemade, store bought or disposable.
Loops to go around the ears are best. 1st - 12th grade will wear them at school and on the bus.
If you would like to donate, I will have a plastic tub with a lid labeled masks in the church office for
donations. Cash donations will be used to purchase more masks.
Thank you!
Bobbie Stoess 314-1088 [email protected]
Please accept my thanks and sincere appreciation for your care and concern during my hospitali-
zation and recovery from pneumonia. I received dozens of cards from my church family. Most
importantly were your prayers. I am so grateful for your prayers and many expressions of
kindness. Thank you and blessings on each of you. Andy Sears

Children’s Ministry—Virtual VBS
This year’s Vacation Bible School was different. It was an AT HOME VBS. One thing did stay the
same – the joy and excitement of learning about God and God’s love for all of us through songs,
Bible stories, crafts, science, and mission.

Preschool News
Below is a social media post that illustrates what a difficult situation educational leaders are
in right now. I wish I knew who wrote it so I could give the author credit. One of my sea-
soned teachers shared it with me.
Even though it feels like the coronavirus is in control, I know better. God’s plan is perfect,
and I trust it as it is revealed to me. I humbly ask for your prayers for discernment as we
move closer to what should be the start of another exciting school year. The teachers and I
miss the children terribly and want to be back in school, but only if that is the safest and
best decision for all of us.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.
Blessings,
Tina
