Vacation Bible School
Hello, church family!
Vacation Bible School is nearly here, and we still need help through this final stretch! Please keep the following in mind as we approach August 7:
-- We will be decorating the church starting on Saturday, August 5, at 9 a.m. and continuing after services on Sunday. We welcome EVERYONE to help.
-- We encourage every church family to invite ONE CHILD to attend. Imagine how many children we could reach if even half those kids show up!
-- Be in prayer for our staff and our students, that ALL hearts would be prepared to hear God's message and to feel the Holy Spirit moving.
Jesus, before ascending to Heaven, commanded his followers to make disciples of all people and reminded them he would always be with them. That commandment still applies today, and we can do our part by reaching out to the children in our own neighborhood.
In Christ, Gabriella Mirabilio and Katie Sloan

Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church August 2017
Last year Bermuda Hundred UMC participated in this ministry for the fourth year in a row, and it was quite a success! We had a shoebox packing party and were able to deliver 157 shoebox gifts to the collection center in November 2016! If you helped last year, thank you! If not, we hope you will consider getting involved this year!
A couple of changes have been made to the program this year, and we will be doing things a bit differently at our church as well. The ship-
ping fee per box has gone up from $7 to $9 and they are no longer accepting candy or toothpaste in boxes due to customs regulations. Instead of collecting items for shoeboxes this year, we will be focusing on collecting money to cover shipping of at least 100 boxes, along with purchasing any items we need to fill shoeboxes. There will be two collection boxes (one upstairs and one downstairs) for your spare change as well as red OCC envelopes for larger donations if you are so inclined.
We will also be collecting change during VBS that will go towards our Operation Christmas Child ministry. The Youth Group will be involved as well, including counting/rolling coins, participating in a shoebox packing party and volunteering at the collection center in November.
You can also pack your own box if you would prefer--the process is very simple:
1. Pick up a brochure and shoebox at church. You can also print shoebox tags online.
2. Fill your box (use an OCC printed box or your own cardboard or plastic shoebox, wrapped or unwrapped--just wrap the lid separately!) with gifts and hygiene items for a boy or girl in the age range you select on your box tag.
(visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box/ for item ideas and instructions)
Remember, no used items, candy, toothpaste, liquids or gels! If you need help picking an age range, OCC receives the fewest boxes for boys ages 2-4 and 10-14 and could use more of these! 3. Include $9 for shipping of your box--either place a check in the envelope in the brochure or pay the amount online (paying online allows you to find out what country your box ends up in!)
4. Bring your shoebox to BHUMC by Sunday, November 19 for delivery to the collection cen-ter.
If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Mathis at 571-6250 or [email protected].
This is a wonderful ministry project to do with your children to teach them about helping others and sharing the joy of Jesus--what true Christmas spirit is all about.
