Message from the President :

A big thank you to Conrad Neumann for running the show last meeting. I was told that he did a great job.

Thank you to Cheri Austin and Dennis Petersen for helping him out as well. Bob Thomas, Len and I had a

wonderful time in Leavenworth at the Tacoma Corvette Club’s car show. Great venue. There were only 40

cars there but one of our members won first place in their category. We will let you know who at the next

meeting. We have other members win trophies at another car show. Well done.

There is so much going on its making my head spin. But the most important date is the 5 Star date for the

week end of August 19th through the 21st. I am very excited about our 5 Star. The weather will be

spectacular, the cars, food and location, oh my. I am putting together 4 baskets for the auction. I couldn’t

make up my mind. So, one will be a Margaretville basket, another a Cosmopolitan basket, a Pina Colata

basket and a Chocolate basket. Ok, seems like alcohol is my theme. Well it is. I know these kinds of baskets

are popular.

We had 27 cars at the Jet Chevrolet Cruise-In. Yes it was pretty warm but tolerable since there were 5 tents

set up among the members. It was fun. Dick Lynch put on a great spread of fried chicken, macaroni and

potato salad, dessert and plenty to quench our thirst. There were door prizes and a 50/50 with proceeds

going to the Family Renewal Shelter. Met some other Corvette enthusiasts that may join our club.

See you at the next meeting if not at our Picnic.

Elvira Tucker, President

Corvette News

Coming Soon……

In June, GM announced that it’s investing $290 million into its Bowling Green, Kentucky plant, home of the Corvette. The C7 is barely three years old, is a sales success, and is the only car built at the plant. So unless there are some big changes coming to the car, it seems like an odd place for the company to spend that kind of scratch. Back in Detroit, more test mules are spotted being driven in broad daylight.

In July, Katech, an engineering company that has worked with Chevy on high-performance Corvettes

(including the C7.R Le Mans cars), accidentally put up a landing page for the “C8 Corvette ZR-1/Zora,”

along with an illustration that matches the proportions of the test mule that was first spotted in 2015.

Last week, The Detroit News published a story that could force GM to make a decision on the mid-engined Corvette once and for all. The wolves are at the door now, with Car & Driver confirming that The General keeps its fleet of C8 test mules inside Building 54 at the Milford Proving Ground, and has two Ferrari 458 Italias, two Porsche 911 Turbos, a Nissan GT-R, a BMW i8, and recently had a McLaren in its “benchmark fleet.” If we didn’t know any better, we’d think GM was working on a supercar.

According to The News, the mid-engine Corvette program is code-named “Emperor,” and according to

several sources will be in showrooms by early 2019. The C7 will likely stick around alongside the new car

(which is good, it’d be a shame to se it go after just five years) until 2021, but eventually, the C8 will be

the only ‘Vette in town. Continued on next page

Corvette News

It’s expected to have active aerodynamics, rival the Ferrari 488 and Ford GT in performance (while dra-matically undercutting the two on price), and be powered by an all-new and much smaller V8. The new layout will also allow engineers to explore all-wheel drive, and even hybrid and even electric powertrains; an idea that GM seems to be considering since it recently trademarked both the “e-Ray” and “Manta-Ray” names.

And after all these leaks, where does GM stand on it today? One unnamed source told The News: “It’s happening. Mark Reuss [GM’s global product development chief] wants it,” adding “It’s the worst-kept secret in town.” Chevy’s official response? “We do not comment on future product plans.” That isn’t a yes, but it isn’t a no either.

We want to believe this time; and with all these pieces falling into place, we’re starting to feel confident that we can’t get fooled again.

We received a very nice letter from the Clover Park Technical Foundation for our support in contribut-

ing to their endowment for the scholarships. We, also, received a very nice thank you letter from a re-

cipient for one of the scholarships. The money we give to CPVT has helped and will continue to help

many men and women to achieve their career goal in the automotive field. We are happy to be a part of

their success.

We collected $80.00 in the donation box at the meeting on July 9th plus a box of diapers (from Jack

and Stacia), and a bottle of Simple Green and some trash bags. I apologize that I did not see who put

the other donations on the table so I could give them a shout out. Thank you to everyone for their do-

nations. Here are just a few suggestions for the meeting next month:

Makeup Remover

Hair Color

Boxes of Kleenex

I will not be at the meeting next month so Jan Landry has generously agreed to do my report; therefore,

I want to thank her in advance for covering for me.

Last, but, certainly not least, I want to say how proud I am to be

a part of such a caring and generous club. Thank you all for

being so supportive!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me:

FOR SALE:

I have a set of C-6 polished wheels off my 2005 Corvette. They have been taking up space in my garage for around 9 years and it’s time to rid myself of them. This was a $1200 option when I ordered the car. They are a 4+ out of 5 in condi-tion and have been boxed the entire time. They will fit any C-6 except Grand Sport rear wheels. Anybody who has nicked up original wheels or wants an ex-tra set of Tires & wheels for the drag strip or track might be interested. I have seen single wheels on Creg’s List for over $200, I’m ready to almost give mine away. Please call me at 253-459-5115. Any reasonable offer will be excepted.
