Blacks receive far less adequate mental health treatment in California than whites and this discrepancy will continue until the state’s mental health system embarks on some culturally congruent changes, according to a statecommissioned report released recently in Los Angeles. http://www.dameroncommunications.com/2012/07/state receivescrazyreportonblacks/ “It is unpleasant to admit, but many African Americans do not receive appropriate mental health services, even when they go to places that are suppose to help them,’’ said V. Diane Woods, Dr.P.H., director and lead investigator of the California Reducing Disparities project (CRDP) for the African American population, We Ain’t Crazy! Just Coping with a Crazy System: Pathways into the Black Population for Eliminating Mental Health Disparities. The report was commissioned by the California Department of Mental Health and is the California Reducing Disparities Project for the African American Population. Its primary goal is to paint a clearer picture of the state’s mental health system as it relates to the African American community, Woods said. As a factfinding approach, the report’s investigators initiated 35 focus groups, 45 individual interviews, 635 surveys, and nearly a dozen public forums throughout the state of California to collect data on African American’s opinions on what practices promote good mental health in the community. Investigators also compiled and analyzed data and literature by African American experts throughout the country on mental health and social issues. Nicelma J. King, a public policy analyst and one of the principal investigators on the study, said lack of knowledge about mental health, coupled with poverty, fragmented families, stigma associated with mental health, and a need for culturally proficient providers are some barriers to treatment in the black community. “Most of us know when we fall out of a tree and break our arm we go to the hospital. But most of us (blacks) don’t know where to go when we’re severely anxious or depressed, or we are around someone who is severely anxious or depressed,’’ King said. “We (blacks) don’t know what the response ought to be. We won’t have change in mental health in our community until people know where to go to see about these problems.” Based on the community’s responses, investigators created a list of 274 different recommendations for addressing mental health disparities in California. The recommendations include developing programs to help build resilience, especially among youth; supporting community agencies, clergy and families as first responders; developing mobile mental health centers; and require cultural proficiency training by mental health providers. “It is important for we African Americans and everyone to shift the conversation when it comes to mental health concerns," says Dr. Daramola Cabral Ibrahim, DrPH, Chair Health Sciences at John F. Kennedy University and a consultant on the study. "We need to be able to talk about a mental illness, be it depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc. as we talk about diabetes or asthma. And, it is important to be able to talk with a willingness to learn, to be openhearted and compassionate," says Cabral Ibrahim."Family members, friends and coworkers are the eyes and ears of the community," Cabral Ibrahim says. “Early recognition and intervention can prevent major emotional issues later on in life." The report also calls for establishing community based oversight commissions to ensure providers are knowledgeable on handling patients of different races and work with the mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. “We need to get this to the governor’s level; we need a commission to get this information out,’’ an impassioned Virniecia GreenJordan, president of the Perris Elementary School District in Perris, Calif., said during Tuesday’s conference. “We need some legislation to bring it to another level.’’ Woods said the next step is to start devising a statewide strategic plan, which will begin this fall. “We are setting the political agenda, from your opinion, what types of policies need to be in place for ethnic populations to get the services they need and to implement the recommendations,’’ Woods said. The research was contracted to AAHISBC through The California Department of Mental Health (DMH), in partnership with the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) and funded by the Mental Health Service Act, Prop 63. AAHISBC is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 grassroots community based organization. It was awarded the $411,052 contract to conduct the California Reducing Disparities Project (CRDP) for the African American population. Funds were made possible by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) of 2004. The contract period was for two years, from March 1, 2010 to February 29, 2012. Research is advancing fast, but needs funding.” According to the non profit organization Cure Duchenne, boys are usually diagnosed by the age of 5, in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t survive their mid20s. The funds from this event support research projects aimed at treating and curing Duchenne. As part of the annual Climb to Cure event, people across the country climbed amountain, hill or tall building to increase awareness and raise funds. By Ethel MartinMiller | PublisherThis month I have decided to write aboutestablished companies that give each of usa chance to earn extra income, forourselves and our families. Most of thesecompanies are good companies and havebeen around for years. I understand thatthe economy has taken hope away frommany americans and has made them feelhelpless. I am here writing to you today totell you that we all have many optionsavailable to us. One option is to challengeyourself to believe that just because youlost or cannot find a job that you are donefor.Yes, I am the publisher of Yes We CanNewspaper, I also have challenged myselfto do more than just publish a newspaper.I have researched some of the top 100MLM (MultiLevel Marketing) Companiesto really see what they have to offer. Thereason for my research is because I haverecently signed up with a particularcompany. I wanted to be able to approachsomeone to tell them about this companywith confidence, knowledge andexcitement. The first thing many potential clients askme is, “Is it a MLM” and I proudly say No!Many potential clients react as though theycannot believe it’s not an MLM. Yes, I willadmit that there has been some MLMcompanies that have tarnished the image oflegitimate enterprises but, that should not

be a reason to put down all the good MLMcompanies. I have found out that many ofthese MLM companies have beenlifesavers for many individuals and theirfamilies. The good things about these companiesare their prerequisites are catered to theaverage person; most of them do notrequire you to take a test and you do nothave to work under the watchful eye of aboss. The majority of your work is fromyour home or home office. You will be ableto gather your contacts when you are outshopping, during events, the list oflocations is endless of the different placesyou can meet people. The biggest and onlything that is required is that you believe inyourself enough to roll up your sleeves andbe willing to work your business.I feel there is no reason a person cannotwork for themselves. I truly believe ifanyone can get up early in the morning, getdressed and go to a 9 to 5 job, they can dothe same thing for themselves. Work iswork and what better reason to work if notfor yourself and your family. Many peopleare turned off if they have to put up somemoney, but I say weigh it out for yourselfand if you see yourself partnering with anMLM company and making a business foryourself, I say make it happen even if youhave to borrow the money to get started. By The Darvin AgencySocial media has established a prominent presence as form ofmarketing utilized by companies in countless industriesworldwide. There are a variety of inherent factors that can proveto substantially increase a company’s brand equity and visibility,or possibly victimize a company’s reputation. The way in which asocial media strategy is implemented and monitored can go a longway in determining its overall effectiveness. Today’s marketfeatures a wide array of consumers who have certain expectationsof brands, products, and services. Discontented and social mediasavvy consumers are simply awaiting any opportunity to voicetheir opinions via Twitter, Facebook, and associated socialchannels. This makes it even more vital for a company tothoroughly research and consider what methods of social mediaare most appropriate and beneficial to their needs. There are a number of steps that can be taken in order to avoidthe aforementioned social media disasters that occur frequently intoday’s online marketplace. The first involves being realistic andproperly understanding the relationship between conversations onsocial networks and other types of customer interactions. The nextstep includes utilizing a multichannel strategy for customer salesand service. While social media is quite effective, interactionstaking place at brick and mortar locations, on tollfree lines, andduring online customer service chats are also very important inproviding a comprehensive view of consumers’ opinions. Thefollowing step focuses upon viewing your data and evaluating thetechnology that is currently in place in order to understandconsumer behavior and the voice of the customer. The finalmeasure that can be taken to avoid social media disaster is to havea designated employee that specializes in the customer experiencedelivery chain.A company that does not currently possess a strong presence insocial media does not have to fear making a huge investment insocial media. There are a number of low cost options that can bepracticed to make that initial leap into the realm of social media

marketing. Starting a blog about relevant industry news, trends, orintriguing applications of your product line is an excellent way toembark into the world of social media. Creating a LinkedIn group,Facebook page, Twitter account, a customersonly discussionforum, or a YouTube channel can provide unique opportunities topresent and inform users and fans alike of current companyhighlights and information. The key to a company’s successful use of social media is allabout the results and the ability to properly measure them.Industry analysts are publicizing selfservice business intelligenceas the socalled “golden child” of 2011. In terms of marketing, onearea that could widely benefit from selfservice BI is socialmarketing. There are a number of bestpractices that can beemployed in order to measure social media effectiveness using BIsolutions. Mapping out the ideal marketing process flow that willbest transform prospects into quality sales leads is an exceptionalstarting point. Another practice involves determining the onlinemarketing initiatives and campaigns that will be implemented toattract and engage prospects. Selection of the appropriate outletsto use is quite important in safeguarding the effectiveness of theseinitiatives. Each initiative that comprises the marketing plan must thenhave a preestablished audience profile, outreach, valueproposition, and budget that you are willing to spend. The mostappropriate set of keywords must then be identified to ensureoptimal website content that is designed for those specifickeywords. Identifying and adjusting paths on social networks, aligning the website experience with specific landing pages, andsetting goals for desired actions are all bestpractice techniques inorder to ensure continuity. It is also vital to measure all of theinitiatives that are being used at a given time to display youractivity, outreach, engagement, and outcomes. An even morethorough approach includes tracking all the way through toincremental sales, revenue and gross profit that is derived directlyfrom online marketing. Business intelligence allows insight at theappropriate times during your social media campaigns. It offers

the ability to instantly alter campaign focus and direction. Socialmedia marketing can greatly benefit from the use of businessintelligence as marketers can produce and exhibit greater value intheir social media outreach campaign.

By Kelly Robertsonhttp://fearlessselling.ca/Selling to highlevel decision makers is challenging at the bestof times. However, it can be easier if you understand a fewbusiness principles.Clevel decision makers are paid to improve their businessresults. Regardless of how the media portrays these executives, their primary concern is to improve their business. This includesincreasing sales, market share, customer loyalty; reducing costs, errors, or employee turnover; improving productivity, employeeengagement, customer service, etc.How does your product, service or solution address one ofthese issues? Clevel decision makers deal with changingpriorities. Improving customer engagement may be a top prioritytoday but tomorrow that executive may be faced with cutting$250,000 in expenses. That means they sometimes go cold afterexpressing initial interest in your solution.Do you have a strategy in place to keep your solution current?Clevel decision makersare extremely busy. The average executivearrives early in the morning and stays late into the evening. Theyget dozens of calls every day, receive too many emails, and attendtoo many meetings. This means that you need to maximize everyminute you have when you connect with them. This applies totelephone conversations and facetoface meetings.Do you know EXACTLY what to say when you connect withthese individuals? Clevel decision makersrely on others.Contrary to popular belief, these highranking bigwigs seldommake decisions on their own. They often defer to other people ontheir team and ask for feedback from peers and/or subordinates. This means you need to involve these people in yourconversations and include them in the decision making process.Do you have the ability to finesse this? Clevel decision makersdon’t like to make mistakes. A major mistake can affect an

executive’s reputation in their company. This affects the decisionmaking process which means you need to uncover their riskfactor during your conversations. How will you reduce your prospect’s risk factor? Cleveldecision makers have big egos. Most executives have a healthyego which is one of the things that helped them achieve theirstatus in the company. This means that you need to be veryconfident in your own abilities when selling to these individuals.Don’t back down when you’re challenged. In fact, doing so couldcost you the business because Clevel execs want to deal withpeople who believe in what they do.Are you confident enough to deal directly with Clevelexecutives? Clevel decision makers spend the bulk of their day inmeetings. The next time you’re in the office, watch an executive.Chances are you will see them dashing from meeting to meeting.Your prospects are in the same position. They aren’t sitting attheir desk waiting for you to call them. Are you persistent in your efforts to connect with theseindividuals? Clevel decision makers have at least 40 hours ofwork on their desk at any given time. Several executives I knowhave expressed these sentiment, “I will never get caught up” or“Just when I think I can’t get busier, I do” or “I never call a salesperson back because I already have too much on my plate.” youneed to give these individual’s an extremely good reason to meetwith you or take your call.Is your approach effective? Clevel decision makers receiveupwards of 150 emails every day. Many sales people use email astheir major form of correspondence and it can be ineffectivebecause most Clevel decision makers simply don’t have time torespond to every email. A Managing Director once told me that heprefers telephone correspondence because he simply can’t get toevery email, even when he wants to.Do you use a variety of strategies to connect with Cleveldecision makers? Clevel decision makers think big picture.Stop

focusing on your product or your company and start looking atthe big picture of your prospect’s business. Most Clevel execsdon’t get bogged down in the little details of their business—theypay others to take care of the details. I once met with thePresident of a $125 million company and made the mistake ofasking her questions about frontline execution instead of toplevel strategic issues. Can you see and discuss the big picture?Think about your responses to each question and adapt yourapproach accordingly.

The Critical Aspects Of Social Media And Its Overall Effectiveness

By Kathy HammondWhether you're just entering the workforce or have been entrenched formany years or are creating your own business, the world of work is anintrinsic part of all of our lives. And for a relative few, it's not all about themoney. Our lives in the work world can take many transitions: As ateenager just entering the work world, it may be to earn enough money tobuy a car, clothes, afford dates and for some, earn tuition into college. Andalong the way, discover if the type of work is one that appeals enough tocontinue, or indicates the need to try something else. For others, who have taken a chosen path through college and arepreparing to enter the work world, their focus will be following their pathinto positions for which they've studied. Although it's just as possible thatalong the way, they may discover a penchant for something entirelydifferent. For those who have been entrenched in the work world for manyyears, it's quite possible that their initial position(s) and intention(s) mayhave been shaped or even curtailed by the need to earn enough money tosupport a lifestyle that may include a spouse and maybe children and amortgage. For others, it's not a rare occurrence that they have taken the lowliest,"entry", position and worked their way up through the workplace andachieved all they desired in terms of personal accomplishment, respectwithin the workplace and garnered the wealth they need to supportwhatever their lifestyle. For those who are creating their own business, it's rare that it's doneright out of school, but more often a result of experience already gainedworking for someone else and in the belief that they can earn enoughmoney to support an idea/product/service of their own, as well as supportthemselves. And hopefully, when it comes to hiring others to support thisnew business, experience has also been gained as to how to treat employeesto get the best from them.Whatever your position in relation to the world of work, one thing isclear Your attitude towards work and/so how you approach it makes allthe difference in how well you succeed. You know the old saying about how there are no small parts, only smallactors? It's like that in the work world. There are no small positions, onlysmall minds.Regardless your position in the work world, there is always opportunityto improve your lot. So if you foster an attitude that you are not limited toyour position, and approach each work day with an open mind and payattention, you will discover ways that you can go from a sales clerk to storemanager in just a few months. Now if you're thinking this sounds a bit like those commercials on tv thatare suggesting you can go from a size 22 to a size 10 in a few months withtheir weight loss product and you think to yourself it sounds too good to betrue, perhaps you didn't pay attention to the part, "combined with exerciseand a sensible diet".Which is to say, that whether it's losing weight or achieving success inthe work world, you will have to pay attention to everything that is going onaround you, what you are doing and make a concerted effort to integrateyourself. In other words You will have to work at it.Right now there's a tv commercial touting how you can work at home andbuy a new home or earn $7,000 a month in your spare time ... Which doessound exciting, but NOT ONE WORD is said about HOW you can do anyof this. Only that there's a website that will show you.If you've been enticed by such "come ons", it's understandable Everyone one would like to be able to buy a new house or earn lots ofmoney, and there are those who have achieved financial independence andmonetary success via the Internet. So if you've gone to this or any otherwebsite seeking your fortune, that's nothing to be ashamed about. But ifyou were believing that such sources would be THE answer to your success,'time for an attitude adjustment. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OVERNIGHT SUCCESSThe only way to achieve success is by planning your work and working

your plan. And that's much easier said than done. On and off the Internet.Don't believe the hype that it's "easy", to achieve financial independenceand monetary success via the Internet. It's not. In fact, it may very well beeven more difficult to make a successful go of it on the Internet as opposedto in the "real", world. Mostly because doing business on the Internet isstill a relatively unknown quantity. Whereas in the "real", world there areestablished ways of building a business and even well establishedbusinesses built upon helping others build a business.Sure there are scores of websites designed to encourage you to startbuilding your own business on the Internet, but There are so manydifferent attitudes and approaches towards doing so that it's quiteoverwhelming and hard to know which ones really work. There have been many people who have lost everything because offollowing a certain "guaranteed", path of creating a successful business onthe Internet. Best advice Don't spend one thin dime or even attempt tostart your own business on the Internet until you've taken a good deal oftime and done extensive research of what's being presented as THE way toachieve success on the Internet. And if you do achieve a state where you believe that you know what willwork for you Be prepared to work, work, work. Establishing andmaintaining a viable business on the Internet is no free or easy ride. And ifyou work in the "real" world, here's the real deal To achieve success from/with/in any position, the first steps you can takeare to be at work every day, on time and to agree, without question, to dowhatever is asked of you. Of course, you shouldn't do anything unethical, but in today's work world, it's very rare that an employer would evensuggest such. Too much corruption and unethical behavior has beenexposed and too many organizations have been established to protectpeople in the workplace for this to be a common occurrence.A key example of practicing a positive attitude and approach regardingyour work position: Consider your employer, all the way to the topposition, as a person instead of, "THE MAN". A person, just like you, whohad to start somewhere, learn the ropes and make the climb to where theyare. Then, take a look at the big picture and ask yourself just how much youknow to be able to run a company with all its complexities, right down tothe process of hiring you.If you consider your superiors as people who have not only earned theirpositions, but as people who have to continue to earn their positions, whichinvolves a great deal more than your position, you'll find that your attitudeand approach towards them and consequently, the experience of workingwith them, will improve exponentially. So what we're talking about here is learning to adjust your own attitudeand approach to become an asset to yourworkplace, which will naturally benefityou. And by being an asset, those whoare in positions to help you advancewithin the workplace will be more likelyto do so. If you add to this mix awillingness to go the extra step, byvolunteering at least your enthusiasm tolearn more, do more, then you really willget noticed and yes, promoted, to thelevel of your incompetence, as the jokegoes.See, most people become their ownworst enemy within the workplacebecause of their lackluster attitude andapproach. Instead of looking for waysthat they can keep their days at work atleast interesting, if not exciting, whichjust naturally leads to advancements, they start watching the clock, goofingoff, calling off sick and generally startseeing their position as a dead end job.

That's not to say that there aren't times when work positions truly are deadends, but again, with a better attitude and approach, one can at least makethe best of it, and begin looking for another position that may be moresatisfying. There are several important benefits of making the most of your currentwork position while seeking another: It's a fact that it's much easier to findnew employment when you're already employed. And It will allow you togive a two week notice, which is regarded as a common courtesy within thework world. Doing so will allow you to leave one position with a positivereference, and prove to your new employer that your attitude and approachis about doing the right thing. NO ONE NEED BELIEVE THEY ARESTUCK IN A DEAD END JOBEven if you're someone who has been at the same workplace withoutfeeling like you're on the "fast track", to improving your lot, but you believeit's better to have a steady job than risk unemployment because you dohave responsibilities Take a good, hard, long look at your attitude andapproach towards your work position and start thinking in terms of whatYOU can do to improve it, instead of lamenting how it's lacking. But, ifyour efforts do not improve your position, start sending out resumes.Believe it or not, employers of other companies, especially if they're incompetition with your current employer, love to "steal", away a long timeemployee. Such a transition usually is just what you need to achieve theadvancements you had been seeking. Then we have the relatively rare individual whose attitude and approachhas been to actively participate within their workplace while "absorbing",everything they could until they achieve a state of self confidence that leadsthem to believe they have what it takes to strike out on their own. It may bewith an improved product/service based on their previous workexperience, or it may be based on solid research of an idea for aproduct/service they have happened upon for which they believe there is aneed and one they believe they can market. These individuals havedefinitely chosen the road less traveled If it was easy, everyone would bedoing it. For those of us on the sidelines, all we can do is support themhowever we can, to help them achieve success.Whatever path you're on with regards to the world of work, bottom line Success doesn't discriminate. It's equally available to everyone, regardlessof age or sex. You have only to cultivate and practice the hard won lessonslearned by those before you and always be looking for opportunities toimprove. If you're serious about achieving success in your workplace, as anemployer, an employee or as someone who is self employed, do a littleresearch and discover the resource specifically created to help youunderstand the work world and how it works, from all sides.

Success In The Workplace Is All About Attitude And Approach

Page 6: August 2012 Issue YWCN

By Pastor John Clark When God said in Gen. 3:15 that the Seed of thewomen would crush Satan’s head (literally take back the headship),QUESTION, when did Jesus get the dominion back? ANSWER, whenJesus defeated Satan in the wilderness.Let me explain this statement in Rom. 5:15 for as by one mandisobedience many were made sinner, by the obedience of one so willmany be made righteous. We see that when Adam disobeyed God’scommandment not to eat of the tree of good and evil,by listening toand obeying Satan, he lost his dominion and Satan became whatAdam was. The god of this world 2 Cor. 4:4. Now Jesus has come tofulfill and take back the headship. How did He do this? Adam lost it bydisobeying, Jesus has taken it back by obeying. AMEN!We see that Jesus came into the world to do God’s will, Heb. 10:9 &10 Then said He, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the

first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we aresanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and forall. After Jesus obeyed all God’s laws He nailed the law to His cross, and set it aside out of the way. Col. 2:14.By abolishing the law He disarmed Satan, principalities and powerCol. 2:15. The accuser of the brethren, according to Rev. 12:10 we seethat Satan is the accuser of the brethren. What does he accuse us of?Breaking the Law.You can see that once Jesus abolished the Law (commandments)Eph. 2:1516, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law ofcommandments contain in the ordinances; for to make in himself oftwain one new man, so making peace; And that He might reconcileboth (Jew & Gentile) unto God in one body by the cross, having slainthe enmity thereby: And made a new covenant which is a WILL. TheWILL, will be explain in the next issue. Pastor John H. Clark, NewTestament Baptist Church580 E 6th Street, Pomona, California

By Shawn McEvoyJesus said... "If anyone wishes to come afterMe, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." Matthew 16:24 You rememberhow to play SimonSays, don't you? It's probablybeen a few years. It's the children's game where aleader gives verbal commands that are to befollowed if and only if they are preceded by anexplicit statement of permission bearing thewarrant of mighty Simon himself. Non"SimonSays" commands are worthless, and followingthem only gets you in trouble.Aside from being fun (for a few minutesanyway), the game also helps kids work on motorskills, coordination, listening skills, manners, and respecting authority. But shhhh... don't tellthem that. I'm not convinced the game's sopopular these days, as everyone's moreinterested in raising leaders than followersanymore, but I digress. Let's just look closely atthe three actions in the verse above, whichbegins not with "Simon Says," but rather "ThenJesus said..."1) Turn Around ("let him deny himself...").This is what denying one's self is all about.Repentance. Seeing things God's way. Goingfrom darkness to light. Playing the fool for God.Even the notion of playing a child's game isapropos here, as we must not use our own adulthuman knowledge and wisdom to accomplishthis step, but instead we die to self and comewillingly in faith like a child.2) Bend Over, Stand Up ("take up his cross...").When you pick up the cross, you have to setdown other burdens, the other things that youtend to think define "you." Taking up your crossdoes not equal the burden of being you, youridentity. You are indeed unique, but each dayyou should take on something new from Christthat makes you more like Him.

3) Go Forward ("...and follow Me"). Following= sacrificial living. It's advancement toward aKingdom goal. In Matthew 8:1 we find that whenJesus "had come down from the mountain, greatmultitudes followed Him." He had just finishedteaching them; they had received instructionfrom one who had no place to lay his head andwas feeding thousands on mere loaves andfishes. Moving forward in the Kingdom can only

involve putting others in front of self. Is it reallyall that foreign to us? People sacrifice all the timeto climb ladders in their career and for otherpersonal goals. Why not sacrifice without theladders?Intersecting Faith & Life: Is this verse, arethese three instructions, hard, or easy? Theanswer depends on perspective. Quittingsmoking looks easy to the nonsmoker, but the

smoker must take it one minute, one day, onestep at a time. Losing weight is a manageablegoal for most, but if the focus is on losing 60pounds in the first day the dieter is fighting alosing battle. Make it your goal to Turn Around,Bend Over/Stand Up, and Go Forward one daythis week and see where playing "Jesus Said"takes you.

Hi, this is Paul Samuel Yeh, 11 years old, your new friend!!! I’m so happy to share thisarticle with you!!! It is so amazing when youare skilled in different talents, looking up toGod asking what I will do next. God willeventually answer your prayers because yourspirit is filled with all kinds of qualities youwill seek in His holiness. The quality I’mseeking is not power, rank, nor money. It’sthe Holy Spirit who makes His people withwisdom, understanding, and knowledge. When I was younger, I recognized all thetalents did not depend on instruments, technology, or me. I felt the sadness of otherfriends around the nations who were verypoor. Holy Spirit lighted up my heart whichmade me have faith to spread the gospel.Same to you; whatever you are talented on likeyour job, education, or even cleaning yourroom, you are giving all your skills to the gloryof God. However, you need firstto turn away from your sin that God doesn’tlike and do God’s way that God likes. Forexample you made mistakes, how can youovercome them? Sit there with a load of sinlying on your back? Change your ways! Youmean a lot to God and He wants to keep youclean. Pray to God in Jesus’ name and tellHim you are sorry for making mistakes. Godwill indeed forgive you and make you HOLY.

When we admit, we have to say the wholestory and the background of it. If you wereinvolved in such a sin that separated you fromGod, you had to admit of what you had sinned. If you read Exodus 32:2129, Aaron shouldhave admitted the sins he had made bybuilding an idol calf for people to worship. In Exodus 31:111; 35:3035 it explains how God gave the talent toBezalel and Oholiab for being skilled workersserving by the command of God. They wereeven assigned to build the tabernacle and theark! We have to thank God the creation of theart and the culture glorifying His holinessaround us. Thank God for putting wisdom inour hearts to do whatever God told us to dowith our talents to build His kingdom onearth. When you read Psalms 32:1, it says thatthe Lord our God promised to guide andforgive us and He will! Think about a churchthat needs some useful materials to feed thosehungryforword creatures. One day when Iwas in Mac Donald’s reading the Bible, I saw aman reading a Bible for hours too. I justwalked up to him and shared my message withhim. I realized that he was a youth pastor. Ishowed him the first draft of this article andhe smiled. He told me, “Proverbs 1:5 is a goodverse because it says that the wise will hearand increase learning”. I flipped to Revelationand shared the importance to it. I realized

that my heart was overjoyed with tears andthe knowledge that this man gave me. PaulSamuel Yeh Grace Chinese MennoniteBrethren Church Mandarin Baptist ChurchLos Angeles, California

By Sheri StuartShopping for backtoschoolsupplies can drain a budget quickly.Separating needs from wants is one ofthe best strategies to avoidoverspending. Springboard NonprofitConsumer Credit Management, Inc.(“Springboard”) encouragesconsumers to create a shopping planbefore making any purchases.Organizing backtoschool shoppingcan help consumers stay on track andwithin their budget.“Shopping for backtoschoolsupplies can be very much likeshopping for gifts during the holidays,”said Melinda Opperman,Springboard’s senior vice president.“Shopping without a list or notknowing what supplies are needed isdangerous and can quickly derail thefamily budget,” said Opperman.Depending on the age of your child, thefollowing are easy ways to incorporatesome family financial lessons into yourbacktoschool shopping:Make a plan: Take inventory ofclothes from last year to see what fits, what needs to be repaired and whatcan be handed down to a sibling.

Separate needs from wants. Designerjeans may be nice to have, but they arenot necessary. Check with an oldersibling, cousin or neighbor for itemsthey no longer want or wear. Checklocal thrift stores too. Many shopscarry gently used designer clothing fora fraction of the original price. Create abudget and set limits on the amount ofmoney you plan to spend.Make a list: Refer to a school supplylist to make shopping easier and faster. This will help keep you from overspending and purchasing unnecessaryitems. Shopping with a list illustrateshow preplanning can lead to greatersavings in the end.Plan a time to shop, comparisonshop: Arrange a day to do yourshopping. Read the newspapers andlook for sales flyers announcing backtoschool specials. Use coupons andshop at discount stores such as thosethat carry school supplies for as littleas one dollar. Don’t forget to use yourcoupons. Keep all your receipts andfamiliarize yourself with the retailer’sreturn policy. This is a greatopportunity to teach kids aboutcomparison shopping. Teach childrenhow to shop by value rather than by

Teaching kids importantfinancial lessons at an early age willhelp them become adults who aresuccessful in managing their money.“Planning ahead will helpconsumers keep their budget intactand create some teachable momentswith your children,” said Opperman.“Preplanning helps ensures moreefficient use of one’s time and money.”About Springboard NonprofitConsumer Credit ManagementSPRINGBOARD® NonprofitConsumer Credit Management, Inc.(“Springboard”) is an IRS 501(c)(3)nonprofit personal financial educationand counseling organization foundedin 1974. Legal & FinanceCreate a CheckList of Needs versus Wants and Stick to ItDon’t Blow Your Budget on Back to School Shopping

By John BuhbnAren’t you sick and tired of hearinghow “bad” credit cards are and that weshould all just cut them up and startliving on cash again. Although thissounds nice in some ways, the reality isthat we live in a consumer society andcredit cards have become a major partof life. The problem is when peopledon’t know how to use credit cards.Credit card debt is no joke and it cansuck you in like quick sand. You canblame credit card companies all youwant but in the end its yourresponsibility to be smart with yourmoney and your cards.Credit cards do have a positive role toplay in personal finance. If you aresmart with it, it can help you bettermanage and spend your money and itcan give you the financial leveragewhen you need it most. Here are 3smart uses for credit.1. Emergencies I do not recommendor encourage anyone to live on credit.its a recipe for disaster. Instead, thebest way to use your credit cards is touse it as backup. We all have financialdisasters that usually hit at the mostinconvenient times. If you don’t havelife savings to fall back on then it canreally hit you hard. Having a card as abackup can really be a lifesaver and ata fee of about $50 a year, it’s well

worth the security that it provides incase you need it.2. Controlling Your Spending One ofthe reasons why so many people falldeeper and deeper into debt is becausethey get caught with their pants down– so to speak. They spend and spendand then fail to make the minimumpayments. When interest starts kickingin, its usually already too late and youstart sinking. The smart way to useyour card however is to pay it off in fullevery month. Its a great way to controlyour spending and to now exactly howmuch you are spending on what. Itworks really well if you dedicatespecific expenses to a specific card –like your groceries. However, thesecret is to pay it off in full everymonth.. Large Purchases One of the reasonswhy businesses like to use credit cardsis because it allows you to convenientlymake large purchases – even on theinternet. We can all get cards withrelatively high credit limits and if youhave to make large purchases for say abuilding project or if you buy a lot ofstuff online, then its ideal. Once again, the secret is to clear this debt each andevery month. On large purchases, theinterest can be just as large so makesure you wipe the slate clean everymonth.

Childhood MemoriesLast A Lifetime

By: Dr. Rich NicastroQ: I need some relationship help. While I love my husband withall my heart, sometimes it's just so frustrating being married tohim. When I feel that he's ignoring me, I get so upset, and he'susually surprised by the intensity of my reaction. Why do I get soupset with him? ~Lynn, Carlsbad CAA: Thanks for the question, Lynn. Here are some thoughts thatmight help shed light on your experience: It is extremelydistressing to feel as if your words and actions have no impact (orno longer matter) to your spouse/partner—to think that someonewhom you love deeply is no longer engaged fully in therelationship or interested in what's important to you can beextremely painful. When you feel like your spouse/partner is not being responsiveto you (and to your needs), two outcomes become likely: 1.Initially, you may "up the ante" in order to have some kind ofimpact on your spouse/partner this might involve yelling, becoming more provocative, elevating your emotional responses, acting in ways that are uncharacteristic for you (in attachmentliterature these types of reactions are called "protest"behaviors—your protests are a reflection of losing somethingextremely important to you; this can be the love of your partner, the security of your relationship, or both). Is it fair to say that atsome point most of us would react negatively (protest) if weperceived our spouse/partner to be unavailable and unresponsiveto our needs?2. When you feel ignored for extended periods of time, yoursense of despair can turn into feelings of hopelessness—you give

up on trying to engage your spouse/partner and begin to retreat(this is a selfprotective behavior—in essence, you're cutting yourloses). This may take the form of indifference, withdrawalbehaviors, and disengaging from the relationship in general (andthe responsibilities that are a part of the relationship).Typically a protest reaction isn't random: Protest behaviors(getting really upset when your partner isn't responding inpredictable ways that make you feel secure in the relationship)occur in a particular context; and the triggering event is usuallyfeeling anxious about losing the security of your relationship.Relationship Help: Let's break down this reaction: Anunresponsive/disengaged/uninterested partner => triggersincreased anxiety and worry in the other partner, who then =>attempts to reengage the unresponsive partner (for example, "Weneed to talk," or "What's wrong?") => and if the other partner isstill not responsive, protest behaviors are triggered.Your protest behaviors (whether your protest behaviors areperceived as nagging, pestering, yelling, or some kind ofincreased emotionality like anger) are in effect attempts to tryand correct the problem—ideally it's an attentiongrabbingreaction that will let your spouse know that something is wrongthat needs fixing. Think of protest behaviors as an alarmsounding in an effort to grab your partner's attention to whatneeds to be addressed. Marital/relationship problems can arisewhen these temporary reactions (feeling one's spouse/partner isunconcerned and unresponsive) are not addressed and becomeingrained patterns. I hope this sheds some light on why you seemto get so upset with your spouse (or why we all get upset with ourspouse/partner at times). Whenever we allow a loved one special

access to our hearts, feeling ignored by this person is going to feellike a major deal.

By Mona Johnson | CEO of Personnel BestDo you practice etiquette at home? Etiquetteshould be practiced at home as much as it ispracticed outside the home, in public. Thefamily you live with deserves to be treated withdignity and respect also. How you treat andinteract with those closest to you says very muchabout you.The way you interact with your family is awindow for other people to see what you areactually like. How do you treat your spouse? How do you treat your parents and last but notleast, how do you treat your teens and your smallchildren?Do you say please and thank you to yourchildren? Do you say thank you to your spousewhen he passes you the salt? Do you say thankyou to your wife when she brings a soda to you

while you are watching the game? They aresmall actions that become importantremembrance for your family.Do you say thank you to your twoyear oldchild when she shares her cookie with you? Ordo you give her the, “you ought to offer me someafter all I paid for it.” Yes you did pay for thecookie and you probably did the shopping to getit into the house. But a child is not expected tomake money or to shop for groceries. However, the social order does expect them to say “thankyou.”Everyday you are a model of want you wantyour child to be like. If you don’t say thank you, don’t expect your child or your teen to say thankwhen you are in public with them. The window is open. When your child or teenis in public and they don’t say thank you, please,or excuse me one can assume that they probably

don’t see or hear it practiced at home.Sure you have to remind your children andteens to use good manners. But make sure it isjust that, a reminder not a public lesson. As parents, grandparents and guardians youneed to set a fervent example as to how youexpect your children to treat their cohorts andhow you expect them to treat other adultsincluding family members.Make sure you say thank you, please andexcuse me appropriately. Make it a sincere andnatural habit. Remember everyone wants to beacknowledged and appreciated, and they shouldbe. Teens and children are people too and theyneed to be told and shown proper etiquetteexamples from and by people who love them.Practicing etiquette can reduce friction andfrustration in your home even if your teenpretends not to be listening.

No, this does not mean you have to say yes toeverything your teens or children want. It doesmean that saying no will be done with parentalrespect, love and caring no matter how firmly itmay have to be said.Join me weekly as I answer your questions, exploring good manners and lost etiquette inthese progressive times. Etiquette Excursion with Mona

By Roni WoodardDo you remember when youwere little watching your favorite program ontelevision you would always say to yourself, Iwish that I could be like that person and do whathe or she is doing? At that moment when you would release thosethoughts from your lips instantly somethingkicks in and the drive to become that actress oractor goes into motion. As progress is being made, you find yourselfgoing to audition after audition only to bedisappointed by never being cast for the part. Then finally, you attend an actor's workshopand you are chosen to cold read a script, but findyourself stumbling over the words. You sitthrough the workshop with much anticipationand apprehension and wait until it is over to beprivately evaluated by the instructor. This is a common scene everyday in theentertainment industry. Potential actors have a

desire to succeed in the business, but have noidea that education, time management andcommitment is what makes one succeed in theindustry. Education plays the mostimportant role because when one decides toaudition for a part, ninety nine percent of theaudition will require a script or side to be read.Once the sides are read, being able to conveywhat you have read into action is the hardestpart. Acting is not easily achieved unless one hasa clear understanding of what they are readingand how they best fit into that character. Whenparents make a sound decision to help theirchildren pursue their dreams in theentertainment industry, one of the firstrequirements in order to began getting started isa child must have an entertainment permit. Thisis obtained through the Industrial relationsdepartment. The next step is this sameform must be taken to the schools

administrative staff to be completed. Ironically, the school staff must pull the academic recordsand give a recommendation as to whether thestudent is academically inclined to function inthe industry. The work permits requestinformation about the academics, discipline, andattendance. The entertainment industry is designed to helpchildren succeed by requesting this informationprior to issuing a work permit. If academics, discipline and attendance is not aboveexpectations a work permit can not be issued.Education plays a major rolein the success of young television stars. Youngactors are encouraged to continue with school orbe home schooled. Students can even beschooled on set during filming and taping. Yes, itis important to have a good movie or reoccurringsitcom, but most importantly Hollywoodwelcomes education as the foundation. Becauseit is impossible to have an all star cast when theycan not read, nor understand the character in

which they are playing. Even after the dreams ofbeing a major actress on the big screen haspassed on, education or the lack of it will be adetermining factor in the success of many peoplewho are or were connected to the industry. Inclosing, Education is just more than going toschool everyday. Education is achievingsuccess in your scholastic abilities. Education isabout being informed of certain mechanics ofeveryday life, education is reading a chapterbook and understanding what you have read, and certainly education is about dreaming biggerand better plans for your life. And having thediscipline to sit still and commitment to thosesuccesses that lies ahead no matter how difficult. These components are the successes to the keysin the entertainment industry. Parents you canhelp by understanding the importance of asound education before your child embarks on asuccessful career in the entertainment industry.

Hollywood Welcomes Education As The Foundation

By Mike PowersHobbies are something that almost everyonehas. Most of the time, these hobbies do notproduce any income, they are just somethingmeant to pass the time and break the boring voidthat might exist if such habits did not. However, there are some habits that allow you to do both:break the monotony of life and potentially makesome money while you are at it. Metal detectingis like this, and metal detecting for beginners isnot as complicated as you might think. There are a few things that anyone needs toknow when they are just starting out. However, through the upcoming paragraphs, you are goingto get a look at a few of the things that everyoneneeds to know if they are going to be successfulwith this hobby. The more you know about theprocess, the more likely it will be that you willfind true treasures that have been lost.

The first thing that you are going to have toconsider would be the fact that there are plentyof these products around. Perhaps knowing whatthey are would be a good place to begin.Basically speaking, these are indicators of metalobjects that have been buried for one reason oranother under some level of sediment or earth. But the trouble is, many people do not realizejust how involved this process could be if youreally wanted to be successful with it. Perhapsthe best thing would be to start small and justlearn the ropes of the hobby itself, so that youcan become much more successful down theline. This means purchasing a mid level detectorand picking a few less populated areas to getgoing. You should start by digging for anything andeverything that is tripped up by the detector. This is going to give you clear ideas as to whatspecific noises often mean when they are made

by the device. The idea is that the more familiaryou become with these ideas the more discerningyou are going to be able to be.You should be aware going in that you aregoing to be uncovering much more garbage thanyou are lost treasures of years gone by. Youshould be prepared for this by carrying around ahandy receptacle, or finding some means ofproperly storing the garbage. Many have found itis good to bag up these pieces and rummagethrough them one more time later on. This willgive you an opportunity to ensure that what youthought was garbage actually is.It can be tedious at first, but you should reallytake the time to learn the hobby for all that it isworth. If you are coming up dry on runs, youshould go to hotspots for metal detecting likebeaches. The ground is in a constant flux aroundbodies of water, and so metal and goodies aregetting stirred up all the time. Metal detecting

for beginners was the object lesson of this article, and hopefully some of these tips and pointerswill come in handy as you set out. This hobbytakes patience, but it can prove to be emotionallyand monetarily rewarding if you are dedicated toit.
