Race BriefingA short verbal briefing will be held at 4:55am, prior to event starting at 5:00am. All other information is contained in this guide

Race StartIn order to give everyone a fair opportunity to have an unimpeded swim you will have been allocated an individual start number based on your entry time. This number determines the order in which you start, with the fastest 2 competitors starting first and the slowest 2 last. Competitors should gather in groups of 2 at the start end of the pool according to their start number, each group of 2 will then be started at 5 second intervals.

First AidIf you have a need for first aid please see any member of the pool staff or any member of the FRT Admin team. If in doubt call 000, we are at Northern Beaches Leisure Centre in Burdell, also known as North Shore Pool. For safety there will be a sag wagon following the last cyclist.

Course Maps

1km swim

The swim course will utilise the snake technique whereby you swim one length of the pool then swim under the lane rope to the next lane and swim back up it continuing in this manner until you reach the other side of the pool. You will be required to complete 3 laps of the pool in this manner with the first lap using all 8 lanes in order to complete 400m and the 2nd and 3rd laps using 6 lanes inorder to complete 300m, making a total of 1km. You will be seeded based on your entry time, beginning with the fastest seeded swimmers, with subsequent swimmers entering the water at 5 second intervals.

Please keep to the left of the lane at all times except when you need to pass a slower swimmer in front of you.

On completion of the swim head out of the pool area to the transition area in the car park.

NOTE: it is in your interest to be realistic in your entry time otherwise you will either be quickly caught by faster swimmers behind you or quickly catch slower swimmers in front of you. Any entry times deemed to be unrealistic will be adjusted accordingly.

90km bike

Once you have collected your bike from transition, run your bike to the mount line on the road. From the pool car park turn right onto Erskine Place, left onto North Shore Boulevard, left on Mt Low Parkway, right onto the Bruce Highway, left onto Black River Road and then right onto Herveys Range Road. You will climb Herveys Range and continue up & over the top for about 4 km until Elliott Road. There you MUST check-in with the marshal so we know where everyone is on the course. The turnaround point (approximately 4km past the lookout) will be marked with a prominent sign and be manned. Water will be available to refill bidons. You return the same way.

NOTE: All roads are open to traffic. Road rules must be followed at all times and lights are MANDATORY. There will be water at the turn around, however it is your own interests to carry your own water & nutrition supplies. Cut off times, you must finish the bike leg by 10am (5 hours from the start time) in order to be allowed to start the run leg.

9km run

After racking your bike you will head out on the run initially in the same direction as the bike course but on the footpath. From the pool car park cross the road and turn right onto Erskine Place, left onto North Shore Boulevard following the footpath under the road to the park on the other side. Follow the footpath in a clockwise direction around the houses, returning under the road and back down North Shore Boulevard, cross Erskine Place and loop around the pool block back to the start. Repeat for your second loop. After your second loop enter the car park and cross the finish line near transition.

The route will be marked at all junctions and turns. Water will be available at 0, 1.5, 2.5, 4.5, 6, & 7 km around the course from 2 water bubblers/taps (be marked on the path) and a water table at the transition area at the start. It is your own interests to carry your own water & nutrition supplies if you require anything additional.

NOTE: Cut off times, the run leg must be started by 10am (5 hours from the start time).
