gentrification and come away as both historical and chic at the same time.

stretch along the main Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail roads, with the intersection of these

two roads as its axis. This place has been transformed over the last 5 years to become one of the most trendy and busiest shopping clusters in the city.

Street furniture lines the pavements here. Upscale cafes, restaurants and clubs continue to make their presence felt here. On weekends, thousands of locals as well as tourists throng Bintang Walk and its shopping centers. Many major nightlife events take

place here such as the New Year's countdown, Media eve celebrations, street concerts and parties.

Urban Semiotics is the means to disentangle the signs and extract codes from them. Urban semiotics is the study of meaning in urban form as generated by signs, symbols and their social connections. Semiotics emerged as a means to analyze the cultural significance of signs, symbols, and language .Language is loaded with signs and codes , all of which are deciphered via social construction. The utility of semiotics is that it contends with the essence of language; that is, it emphasizes an inquiry into perception, particularly with regard to social meanings. The field’s inquiry is signs, specifically how signs relate to the understanding of the social and natural environment of an individual and the individual’s world. Systems of signification in Bukit Bintang can be understood and elaborated through access to a secondary level of discourse possessing the ability to comment on the object language of the primary level. Systems of signification themselves encompass denotative signs as well as the values ascribed to them. Many of Bukit Bintang symbolic navigations through the city take place in the space of abstract projections of the city rather than the streets and squares of the city itself.
