Student involvement and participation in fundraisers for a greater cause.

School administration expressed the need for student participation in a greater cause for those less-fortunate.

Plan a fundraiser that raises money for a breast cancer research foundation in which students will donate money to skip class and participate in a school-wide pep rally and attend a volleyball game.

Survey of teachers given a few days after the fundraiser event reported that staff and students had a new-found appreciation for supporting those less-fortunate.

Purpose The purpose of the 3rd Annual Dig Pink Volleyball Game Fundraiser was to

teach athletes and students the importance of fundraising for the well-being of others whom are less fortunate.

The event was organized and planned in honor of a family of a current student whose mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Half of the funds which were raised were donated to the student’s family to help cover their medical costs.

Planning The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams created posters which were displayed around the school

to promote the fundraiser. They also made announcements each day that included the information about the fundraiser and game, as well as a breast cancer fact.

The week of the game, team members sold tickets (under coach supervision) to the student body at $2.00 a piece. This allowed students who purchased a ticket to ‘skip’ 1st and 2nd period to attend the volleyball game.

T-shirts were pre-ordered at $7.00 a piece and delivered the day before the game to any staff, student, or athlete who desired one.

The volleyball game was played in conjunction with former student athletes who are now a part of the local high school’s varsity volleyball team.

Other student groups also participated in the game including the band who played pep songs throughout the duration of the game and the cheerleaders who kept the crowd pumped.

At the conclusion of the game, all monies were counted and deposited, then split accordingly the nominated family on campus and the girl’s athletic account.

Conclusion After all monies were collected, counted, and deposited half of the funds

were donated to nominated family on campus in the form of a check and card signed by the 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams. The other half was deposited into the girls’ athletic account to help fund their end of year field trip.

An announcement was made at the end of the day to let all staff and students know the total amount raised which was $1,178.50. Everyone on campus was praised by the principal for their hard work and dedication to a cause that is near and dear to their hearts.
