INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY :: September 15, 2012
®
It’s that time again; the dreaded September. I do hope
that you all enjoyed your Summer holiday and are ready to
jump into the 2012-2013 academic year with full force.
As per usual, Key Club has a lot in store for you this
year. I, as well as the members of the executive board, am very
excited to serve you as the leaders of the club and do look
forward to working with you to make this club strive to its full
potential.
Do prepare yourselves for a completely revamped club
this year. After doing and in depth analysis of the club last
year, we have sought to include more unique and creative
projects in addition to filling our meetings with pure fun. Note
that this is just a taste of what is to come.
We do hope that we are able to accomplish all the goals
we have set out for this year. However, the executive board
cannot do this on our own. We, without a doubt, need the
support from you the key clubbers in our effort to make the
club better suited to your needs so we do implore you to do
your part as we make every effort to better the club throughout
the year.
LET’S MAKE THIS A YEAR TO REMEMBER!
Yours in Caring and Service,
Romario Perry (President)

With the ELIMINATE Project, Kiwanis International and
UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate Maternal and
Neonatal Tetanus(MNT) – a deadly disease that steals the
lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant
number of mothers each year. Tiny newborns suffer repeated,
painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and
touch. In eliminating this disease, the project will reach the
poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional
lifesaving health care. The end of this disease means the
beginning of better health for so many families.
As a team, we decided that we needed to do our part in the
eradication of this disease from the world. In an effort to raise
funds for the cause, we started with the purchasing of buttons
that read "Ask Me About Eliminate" which were to be worn
by Key Clubbers, who were knowledgeable of the
ELIMINATE Project, in an aid to bring awareness to this
campaign to the rest of the school. Donation sheets were then
circulated throughout the school so that we could raise
enough funds to help support the cause.
For the upcoming year, we would like to continue this
endeavour as the ELIMINATE Project is always in need of
help and we're always willing to assist where we can. We
therefore urge you all to ask your parents, friends, even
strangers for donations, so we can do our part in ridding the
world of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.
DO YOUR PART; SAVE A LIFE!

RELAY FOR LIFE
Relay For Life is a unique, fun way to raise
money for the Jamaica Cancer Society while
increasing cancer awareness and celebrating
survivorship. It involves teams of ten or less
persons taking turns walking or running
around a track, relay style, for the duration of
the event. Each team is asked to raise a
minimum of $5,000.00 or more in donations
to support the Jamaica Cancer Society
programmes of education, cancer screening,
counselling and mobile screening and
outreach.
Each organization was asked to choose a
theme which was supposed to be portrayed in
the decoration of the tent as well as to choose
a type of cancer with which they were
suppose to raise awareness. As we all now,
our dear friend Ayala Bennett unfortunately
passed away due to her battle with Leukemia,
so we thought it was befitting to choose that
stemmed around the theme “The Future is in
the Cure.”
We’d like to thank all who attended and
implore that if you were unable to attend the
event to try your utmost best to attend next
year, as it is always an amazing experience
relaying for life.

THINGS TO NOTE
4 ARDENNE HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB
In this segment of our Executive Board
Spotlight we meet our own Assistant
Secretary/Treasurer Danielle Clayton-James.
Q: Why did you join Key Club?
DCJ: I joined Key Club mainly because I heard of
the fun times my sister had when she was in
Key Club at Immaculate. So, one year I just
decided to sign up to see for myself what it
was about and I just fell in love.
Q: How has Key Club changed your life since you
joined?
DCJ: Key Club has really taught me that there are a
lot of persons who are less fortunate than
myself and that has gotten me to a place where
trying to help others and the environment is
what interests me. It has also allowed me to
break out of my shell.
Q: What will you bring to the table as AST that will
aid in the success of this club?
DCJ: As the AST of Ardenne High School’s Key
Club, I plan to bring my creative ideas to really
bring back the spirit of Key Club to Ardenne.
In addition to this, I’ll create a professional and
reliable persona, so that my fellow board
members and key clubbers can trust and rely
on me to do whatever task I am assigned.
Q: What is you philosophy?
DCJ: You are the creator of your own destiny.
