BEST OF BONNERS

There are many well-documented benefits to our communities and to each of us to choosing local, independently owned businesses. We realize it is not always possible to buy what you need locally and so

merely ask you to Think Local FIRST!

10 Reasons to Think Local - Buy Local – Deal it Local!

1. Buying local means supporting yourself. Studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses.

2. Support community groups. Non-profit organizations receive an average 250% more support from smaller business owners than they do from large businesses.

3. Keep our community unique. Where we shop, where we eat and have fun—all of it makes our community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of this place.

4. Reduce environmental impact. Locally owned businesses make more local purchases requiring less transportation. This generally means contributing less to sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution.

5. Create more good jobs. Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and in our community, provide the most jobs to residents.

6. Get better service. Local businesses often hire people with a better understanding of the products they are selling and take more time to get to know customers.

7. Invest in community. Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community, are less likely to leave, and are more invested in the community’s future.

8. Put your taxes to good use. Local businesses require comparatively little infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally owned stores entering the community.

9. Buy what you want, not what someone wants you to buy. A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term; guaranteeing a much broader range of product choices.

10. Encourage local prosperity. A growing body of economic research shows that in an increasingly homogenized world, entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character.

HEALTHY LIVING

Exercise and Proper DietINDISPENSABLE INGREDIENTS OF FITNESS AND HEALTHY LIVING

For the past several years, there is hullabaloo on the need to be slim and sexy. Grocery shelves are filled with several food supplements and other products that promise certain health and wellness benefits. Home

TV shopping channels also offer everything from slimming tea to herbal soap to ‘instant abs’ exercise gadgets. Gyms across the country are fast gaining members who are willing to sweat it out just to burn excess calories from mindless munching and eating. There is also an increasing number of vegetarianism and raw food diet converts who vow to trade juicy hamburgers for fresh vegetables and fruits. People who are stressed out dream of luxurious spa treatments, Thai and Swedish massages, and detoxification diets. All of a sudden, there’s the need to attain fitness and healthy living. This desire can be attributed to man’s realization that the world he is living in is too polluted and toxic. Fitness and healthy living seems to be man’s only hope in staying sane and sound in this otherwise hostile world.

If one wishes to achieve fitness and healthy living, he should go for ‘holistic’ approach. A person who wants to have super-fit body goes to the gym a lot and sticks to rigorous exercise routines. There’s nothing seemingly wrong with this but he should also see to it he is eating the right kinds of food. It is not enough to be physically fit outside; one has to strive to be internally and externally healthy. Body builders have to follow specific diets appropriate for his physical needs. It is a must to consult personal trainers who can prescribe a proper workout routine and the corresponding diet needed for such routine. Furthermore, people with weight problems should not only focus on improving their diet. Overweight and obese people also need to regularly exercise. One sure way to improve one’s

health condition is through exercising and eating wisely. A person should consider these two key aspects as a two-in-one package.

Fitness and healthy living cannot be attained without the exercise of one’s will. An overweight person cannot be fit and healthy just be watching TV all day and expecting to wake up slim the next morning. Fitness and healthy living requires a lot of effort and involves many decision-making opportunities. One must be really determined to improve his diet and religiously follow exercise routines to be able to resist temptations that may go along the way. Sometimes, it is too tempting to pig out a little more often and to just watch movies at home instead of exercising and eating good food. But if a person firmly decided to be slim and sexy, he should be willing to let go of life’s needless pleasures.

Activities for SeniorsLOOKING FOR A SENIOR CENTER

Senior centers have been created and developed to specifically cater to the unique needs of aging individuals. It is important to find out the background and current programs offered to determine if

they provide the right activities for seniors that will truly lead to long term benefits. Find a center that encourages independence for overall sense of well-being.

About the Senior CenterA senior center functions to aid aging individuals cope with their daily needs, as well as provide activities, entertainment and counseling for a renewed sense of well-being. There are several centers located throughout the United States. The first step to locating these would be to search your local phone book. There is a special section with pages for the community that includes all resources for senior citizens. Senior centers are most likely found in this section.

View the county or city web site for the community where you belong to. Several web sites include a specific section for aging individuals, complete with information regarding local resources. Find the regional and local area agency on aging. These groups contain a lot of information and helpful resources for seniors. Request for a complete list of centers found in your area or community.

Searching for the PlaceOnce you’ve receive the full list, you can hone down everything into 2 to 4 sources. Select these for further review and assessment. You can call the agency and arrange for a tour with the directors of the senior center. These individuals can present you all the facilities, physical properties and other equipments and events available to give seniors complete

wellness. The directors and facilitators can provide you full details regarding the events and programs given for residents. It is recommended that you consider location as a factor in choosing the right senior center. If you plan to leave your parent or grandparent there, it will be to your convenience if you live nearby. This way, you can pick up or visit the elderly more frequently.

Assessing the Available ServicesCheck the different programs available and compare the physical appearance of the choices you are considering. It is important that the place has all the right amenities that the senior citizen personally prefers. Ask the person to be confined about special requests and options that can help you narrow down your search. Also talk to some other people who are undergoing programs and services and allow them to list down the strengths and weaknesses. You can also talk to the directors and coordinators regarding your concerns, so they can immediately see if their objectives are at par with yours.

ReviewingYou can visit the official web site of the senior center to know more about the background, thrusts and patient testimonials. If they have a customer service support section, that is a good sign, as well as having an FAQ section. Review all the choices you have before finalizing. You may even ask the senior citizen to take a couple of sessions to help assess and decide.

If the elderly is suffering from a disease or disability, make sure that the center knows. They should have medical and health professionals ready to cater to every need, at any time. Accidents and emergencies should be attended to immediately through a prepared backup plan and ready-to-use equipment.

TEN DOLLARS IS TEN DOLLARSA man and a woman go to the carnival every year. Every time the man says,”Anna can we ride them airplanes that goes up for a couple of minutes then comes back down?”

The woman always replied by saying,”We don’t need to spend any extra money on them airplanes, its to expensive. Ten dollars is ten dollars.

Tom, the pilot, said,” Larry, every year I hear you say you want to ride my airplanes, and every year Anna says it’s too expensive. I’ll make you a deal, if I do all of my flips and tricks with you in there with me, and you don’t say one word, I’ll give you the ride for free.

Anna and Larry discussed it and decided they would take the deal. They got up in the air and Tom did all of his tricks and flips.

Tom said,”Larry I just knew you`d say something on that first flip, but you didn’t!

Larry replied,” I was going to say something when Anna fell out, but ten dollars is ten dollars.

TWO WORDSA prince had a curse put on him when he was a little boy. He could only speak two words every year. But, if he didn’t speak for a whole year, he would then be able to speak 4 words the next year and so on.

One day he met a princess named Josie and he wanted to say “My Princess”.

The next year he saw her he wanted to say “My princess, I love you”.

The third year he saw her he wanted to say “My princess I love you, will you marry me?” But, the young prince, now growing older knew he would have to wait a couple more years.

So, on the fifth year, excited to finally present his question, he visited the princess.

He approached her respectfully and asked, “JOSIE, MY PRINCESS, I LOVE YOU. WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

And the princess said, “Pardon?”
