When the song of the angels is stilled,

when the star in the sky is gone,

when the kings and princes are home,

when the shepherds are back with their flocks,

the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost,

to heal the broken,

to feed the hungry,

to release the prisoner,

to rebuild the nations,

to bring peace among the people,

to make music in the heart. -- Howard Thurman

A Family Epiphany Prayer

Father: Christ has appeared among us.

All: Come, let us adore Him.

Mother: The precious gifts which the Magi brought to the Lord this day are threefold, and they are signs of divine mysteries. By gold the power of the King is signified, by frankincense His great priesthood, by myrrh the burial of the Lord.

All: The Magi worshipped the Author of our salvation in the crib, and of their treasures they brought to Him gifts of mystic nature.

Youngest Child: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

All: As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Father: Let us pray. O God, by the leading of a star you manifested Your only begotten Son to the Gentiles on this day; mercifully grant that we who know You by faith, may be brought to contemplate the beauty of Your majesty. Through the same Jesus Christ Your Son.

All: Alleluia.

Breaking Bread is the name the early Followers of Jesus gave to the celebration we now call the Mass. The Mass is at the heart of the Church’s life. It can therefore be at the heart of our lives. We can make it more meaningful to our journey of faith by understanding its roots to the Seder, Jesus’ dynamic changes He made to it which gave a deeper spiritual and infinite meaning to the celebration. The Mass can transcend all of us to a level of understanding, emotion, and personal spirituality that gives us an awareness of the Divine Presence and a peace that the world cannot give. “Come and See.” Jn. 1:39
