From the Deputy Principal
To encourage 100% student attendance we implement a range of strategies including: acknowledging 100% attendance on a term and yearly basis, regular newsletter items, involvement of the Home School Liaison Officer in school activities, individual attendance plans to assist students to improve attendance, and monitoring attendance on a daily basis. Staff follow up non-attendance with phone calls and letters to encourage and reinforce the importance of regular attendance at school.
Student whole day and part day absences will be reported on each child's half yearly and yearly school reports. Missing school means your child misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships. Attendance is recorded each day. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day, including sports days unless your child: has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should
be made after school or during holidays) is required to attend a recognised religious holiday is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as
attending a funeral) is sick, or has an infectious illness. If you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school regularly, please ring to make an appointment with me. If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, please explain the reason by sending a written note within seven days of the absence. Sue Law
Deputy Principal
There are many exciting things happening in the world of Creative and Practical
Arts this term at Rooty Hill! All students are involved in either a performance or art
group each Wednesday afternoon in preparation for our Education Week Open Day
early next term. Our Junior and Senior Dance groups are rehearsing hard and
getting ready to perform at the Synergy Dance Festival in June. We are looking
forward to celebrating the arts in our school over the coming months! Thank you to
the teachers for all their hard work and creativity that has gone into organising their
group activities!

We are proud of the fact that many students from RHPS devote time to our community at large, such as volunteering at nursing homes, charity work, ‘Clean Up Australia’, tree planting. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful things our students do for the community that make them eligible for one of our Aussie of the Month awards. Please let us know if your child has participated in acts of kindness for the community and nominate them for a school Aussie of the Month award. This week you will receive a nomination form, keep it somewhere safe so that you can nominate a student at any time. Jessica De Rosa Classroom Teacher
Thank you to all the families who supported Stewart House and brought In their envelope and gold coin donation. Stewart House depends on the generosity of the community for donations. Our school community raised $130 for which we are very
appreciative and grateful. Kristen Nicholsen Charity Co-ordinator
Every Friday a group of our girls and boys have been going to the Sydney Gymnastics & Aquatic Centre for swimming lessons. They receive specialised instruction from experienced swimming teachers in a range of skills including floating, freestyle and backstroke. All the children who come with us enjoy this time. It is wonderful to watch them grow and develop with their abilities in the water, it is such a valuable skill to know. Many children who began lessons last year who had little water confidence are this year in the top group and swimming like little fish! Leanne Kiely
In every Kindergarten classroom this year, teachers are implementing a special program called L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy) which teaches Kindergarten students how to read and write. L3 provides rich literacy experiences through regular and explicit teaching. Students participate in reading and writing lessons in small groups, designed to meet their individual specific learning needs. They also engage in short periods of independent, individual or group tasks to practise their current literacy learning. Every Kindergarten teacher is receiving lengthy, specialist training in L3 to provide quality and up to date lessons for all students. If any parents are free of a morning and are willing to listen to children read, Kindergarten teachers would appreciate your help. It will make such a difference for our boys and girls. Please come and see Miss Milan for further details. Ms Lauren Milan Kindergarten Co-ordinator
