The video opens with this establishing shot of a landscape accompanied by diegetic sound. There is another establishing shot of a group of men. One bends down to pick up a bullet shell. This again is accompanied by diegetic music and lasts a lot longer. This is introducing the narrative. In this shot it is another long shot of the ghostly figures running around. This also incorporates Dan, the lead singer. This incorporates the non- diegetic music . It’s heavily concentrating on the use of metaphor because there is no interaction going on between the figures and Dan. The camera pans around and we see him holding the same bullet casing that we saw earlier. This creates a sense of continuity through the narrative. The non-diegetic music is still playing in the background This is the first actual performance shot that we see in the video. It is a close up which is used to help the audience to identify with him. We can see how he is looking down to the bullet and is in the same location, which again makes it feel more continuous as a whole. This is the only performance shot used throughout different points of the video. We see Dan walking towards a car door, it is filled with the rest of the band members. However, these shots are only used for narrative purposes. This gives us a feeling of the actual band members being in these situations. Even though it is heavily metaphorical, this brings a sense of realism. In this mid shot we see Dan and the girl walking down the road following the car. The car created a good change from the scenes so that everything linked. Later we see how Dan and this girl know each other and it’s no just a shadowing affect/performance shot. This shot of the gun being dropped links again to the bullet casing from earlier on in the scene. Again, creating a strong sense of continuity. The video ends with a long shot of the car we saw being opened earlier on and blood seeping out of it. After the shot of the gun , it gives the connotation of someone being shot.

This incorporates the non-diegetic music . It’s heavily concentrating on the use of metaphor because there is no interaction going on between the figures and Dan.

The camera pans around and we see him holding the same bullet casing that we saw earlier. This creates a sense of continuity through the narrative. The non-diegetic music is still playing in the background

This is the first actual performance shot that we see in the video.

The opening scene starts with this close up of a girl getting out of a pool. The diegetic sound is amplified, almost putting the audience in the girls shoes.

Then we see the girl sit in front of the TV. Then we have a P.O.V shot to the thing she is watching, which seems to be studio films of the band. Obviously showing the connection to her and the band if she has these tapes.

This over the shoulder shot gives us more of the impression how the audience is supposed to identify with this character. Which is probably conventional for this genre, indie rock. The shots seem to be focused on the lead singer, signifying he is of importance to her.

We then see the character frying this piece of meat through a lose up shot. Because there is attention drawn to this piece of meat through the shot, we can gather that it is of importance. Probably showing the audience how she is just getting on with daily tasks even though it has previously been shown that she is missing the lead singer. This could help the audience identify with the character more through heartbreak.

There is a mid shot of the character stood in the kitchen with a TV on playing the same tapes in the kitchen. Almost showing a level of obsession, which would link with the song title ‘snap out of it’.

The shots from here on become more fast paced, this can signify a level of urgency.

The full screen being covered by the tape almost gives the impression that she was the one filming it .

This extreme close up of the character shows us her expression which again is key for the audience to interact with the character. The background is the tape almost giving the effect that the character is in the tape.

There has been no performance shots of the song through the music video and is just narrative. This close up of the blue screen signifies the end of the tape and the end of the music video, this wraps it up for the audience.

The video begins with this long shot of the band members on stage. This is the first shot we see and it is a performance shot.

Next it shows a long shot of the audience. This is when we realise that the performance and the narrative are intertwined. The audiences eye is immediately drawn to the lone character in the middle signifying her importance.

This close up two shot shows the audience that the band member and the character that our attention was drawn to earlier have some sort of relationship. This goes along with the idea that the narrative and performance are intertwined during the video.

This long shot of the audience beforehand shows now that they are the ones performing however the sound is non-diegetic.

Again, the idea of the mid two shot creates an idea of a relationship between the band member and the character and makes it more relatable for the audience.

The close up of the lead singer is of him singing straight down the lens of the camera. This almost gives a feel of them being in reality and the characters being in a dream.

This cross fade of the main character during the close up of the chess board almost gives the audience a felling of how two people are trying to compete for her.
