After analysing 3 music videos of different genres to chose the genre in which my music video will fall into. I'm now going to analyse 3 music videos in the rock genre to see what they have in common and to see how the differ.

Now I know what ideas my target audience approve of and disapprove of, I can pick up some ideas for clothing and maybe the type of location and also the standing position of the band.

The first music video is 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance. There isn't much of a story line, the band is one location (on a stage) throughout the whole music video. Even though there doesn't seem to be much of an on going story, the song is about teenagers and it looks as though the band is playing on a stage in a high school, as at one point loads of teenagers come bursting through the door. From what my target audience has said, I don't think this would be an appropriate video to follow in terms of their conventions that they used to create the video. However their clothes match the description wanted and the lighting and the editing are linked in with the speed of the song, which is eye catching.

The second video I analysed was 'Stay With Me' by You Me At Six. In their video, they had a variety of camera shots, for example close ups of every band member but at different times, there were high and low angles, and there was also cut aways and cut ins. The editing of the cuts differed from the band to the other actors, and sometimes there were cuts to the instruments being played. They also had different people acting out the story of the song instead of the band themselves, which caught my attention as this is one idea that my target audience preferred. Their clothes were dark, plain, still stylish, some band members wore hoodies, some wore plain tops, but they all wore jeans. The speed of the edits of the cuts happened accordingly to the speed of the song, and at the climactic point of the song, the climactic point of the story was shown also. The video was well split between showing the band and the story. The location of the band was outside in the sun, therefore the lighting seemed natural and very sunny.

The final rock music video I analysed was 'Misery Business' by Paramore. Throughout the video the band were in a separate room playing the song. The story line matched the song, and took place in high school, this video was also well split between the band and the story line. There was much more editing with the lighting in this video, this was mainly shown through the chorus and the climactic points. There were lots of camera shots used however, close up shots seemed to be used more than others. All band members were shown,

even though the lead singer had the main focus. This was noticed because the band members were wearing dark tops and dark jeans, however the lead

singer was wearing a bright coloured top and jeans, this draws the attention straight to her.

Throughout 2 of the music videos, they used the same techniques, which just so happen to be the ideas me and my target audience preferred and would like to use throughout my music video.

I will be carrying out the same conventions within the editing of lighting at the climactic points and the editing of the speed of the cuts depending on the speed of the song, at that moment, as it looks effective and fits within the song.
