Please help them to take my hand and stay awhile, even though I seem unaware of their presence. Help them to know how their strength and loving care will drift into the days to come, just when I need it most. Let them know that, when I don't recognize them, I willa sk them to keep their hearts free of sorrow for me. For my sorrow, when it comes, only lasts for a moment and then it is gone. And finally, please let them know how very much their visits mean. How even through this relentless mystery, I can feel their love. Author unknown..... Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! December is a very busy month with holiday festivities and gatherings! There will be some residents that will plan to leave the facility for Christmas or other events, so it is important that residents or families inform the nursing staff the dates and times. It is important that we know the type of vehicle they will be traveling in and if there are stairs to get into homes so therapy and nursing staff can make sure these transfers will be safe. In the past, some family members have brought in gifs for the staff so I would like to remind everyone that our policy is that gifts cannot be an individual gift, and must be perishable. We are all looking forward to celebrating the holidays with you! Brenda Blair, RN, DNS Lori Levine BSW

“I grew up in Providence on Douglas Avenue. I fell in love and married one of my neighbors named William. We ran a gas station for a long time that was previously owned by my family. We had 2 children, Andrea & John. I have 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren . My fondest memories of the holiday season was spending quality time with family. I enjoyed cooking and shopping. Some of my favorite stores were Peerless, the Outlet, Cherry & Webb, and Windsor Button Shops, to name a few. One of my favorite shopping excursions were downtown with friends. Shortly after Thanksgiving, the entire family would start shopping for a fresh Christmas Tree. Past the holidays were more meaningful and enjoyed by extended family no longer with us. I am forever thankful for my family and friends.” Happy Holidays all!!

-Olga Tramonti

Resident’s Holiday Recollections

Jenny is thankful to have her entir e family around. Her nieces and nephews call her Babcia meaning grandmother in Polish. Many pierogis are baked. After midnight Mass, one of their friends played the accordion. They gathered to sing carols and enjoy each other’s company. Anita and Gerry went out to eat. They enjoyed trying out different eateries. Joe Pie & Marie always made sure there were plenty of presents to go around on Christmas morning. As for Ann A. having her family gathered around all day with a glass of wine was an ultimate holiday celebration. Food consisted of antipasto, roast vegies, macaroni and desserts. Mary T. remembers Santa being good to her . “He gave me dolls and a carriage. Although it was many years ago, the memories are still wonderful,”

The publication of Christmas music books in the 19th century helped to widen the

popular appeal of carols. The first appearance in print of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen", "The First Noel",

"I Saw Three Ships" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" was in

Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern (1833) by William Sandys.
