Kaira Union, popularly known as AMUL,

is a co-operative and a democratic institution.

This co-operative is: of the farmers, by the farmers, for the farmers

and

managed by professionals appointed by the farmers

THE ORGANISATION

Unorganized and exploited farmers

Controlled by middlemen … establishment of Polson Dairy in 1929

Establishment of GBMS in March 1945 & award of Monopoly Right to Polson by Nov 15, 1945

Along with freedom movement of the country, a parallel movement of farmers led by freedom fighters like Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Morarji Desai and Tribhuvandas Patel led to the formation of Amul in 1946

1960 EXTENSION OF DAIRY PLANT

CAPACITY: 12 LLPD

Artificial Insemination: genetic improvements through breeding and cross-breeding

Animal Husbandry: health care and prevention of diseases

Animal Nutrition: supply of balanced cattle feed, urea-molasses-blocks, mineral mixtures

Fodder Developments: distribution of seeds for development of green and dry fodder

Training & Education: clean milk production, business process, better animal husbandry practices etc
