DUMBO,BROOKLYN :culture district

Design Studio, 3rd year Architecture

16 weeks Instructor : Rebecca HennBy connecting two corners across the site, the design begins to break away from the a-typical grid of Brooklyn.Encouraging more efficient circulation across a network of strict linear movement, our site provides a central subway terminal that serves both tourists and the working class of DUMBO. The mixed use site places an emphasis on outdoor social spaces, with respect to the recent influx of techies and artists. The site is designed to encourage collaboration between local artisans and fast paced commuters. To do this, we emphasized subway level commercial space as well as street level commercial space. Every street level space on the site, is designed as a public investment, each encouraging stimulation and unity within the site.

NORRIS SQUARE NEIGHBORHOOD

Design Studio, 3rd year Architecture

16 weeks Instructor : Scott Wing

West Elevation

The Norris Square Neighborhood Project is a youth center focused on creating an atmosphere that encourages students to pursue their interests in the arts as well as otherprograms. This project draws influence from Norris Square, as well as NSNP’s community gardens in order to create a space that encourages this communityyouth interaction. The large atrium is meant to allow for large groups of people, whichcan be used for farmers markets, t-shirt sales, as well as an assemblyspace for dance performances.

CUSTOM CONCRETE MASONRY UNITSThese blocks communicate with the design concept, they intersect with eachother creating a modular pattern that reaches out to the opposite the wall.

The Apparatus Bay visually and conceptually unites the residential and commercial areas of Bellefonte, while physically connecting the public, shared, and living quarters of the fire station.

The Bellefonte Fire Station is located in the heart of Bellefonte’s commercial area. The Fire station is intended to connect the residential and commercial districts.Bellefonte and the firefighters are connected through the central Apparatus Bay.The design creates a public area that visually connects with the residential area,a shared space that connects to the commercial district, and a residential space

The Burn tower is used as a training facility for the Bellefonte firefighters. This project was focused on creating a complete set of construction drawings. The design mimics my fire station, where the central axis splitting two buildingscreates a public space that is meant to be used as a theatre when the tower is is not in use. The public space is meant to unite the commercial and residential

HAJJAR COMPETITION: GALLERY

Design Studio, 3rd year Penn State Architecture

1 weekThis gallery and workshop is designed to showcase a collection of mid-century furniture. The program space for the galleries are split up into smaller rooms in order to better showcase how these pieces of furniture are meant to be seen, in a social setting, realistically set up as the designer intended. In order to make sure each collection is given its own space, each gallery is seperated by a glass enclosed room, that can be used simply as a socializing space, or visitors may use the reading areas. This alternation creates a sense that you are seeingdifferent scenes of a play, with intermissions in between.

LONGITUDINAL SITE SECTION

The Hydrotherapy Center is located on a beautiful hill overlooking a lake. The design of the center began by using the natural contoursof the site, and creating streams where water organically flows downthe hill. The two main buildings are where these streams intersect. The physical therapy building bridges over the streams, creating a center based on the nature and views of the site

10 WEEKS

This group project was commissioned by the Stuckeman Architecture library. There was an exterior and an interior project, the interior project became a display wall for book jackets and announcements, as well as hidden storage. The exterior project consisted of two benches located directly outside of the librarydoors, and creates an outdoor reading space that is now often used. Both projects are still currently in use every day.

A recycled objects project done during my 1st year in architecture. This water filtration screen was made using all found objects. The snapple bottles were collected from a recycling plant, and the oak was donated from a teachers yardThe screen shows the 4 major types of pollution: Iron, littering, motor oil, and landslides. The filtration process is shown as the water moves down, going through the 4 stages.

Materials class, Penn State Architecture

5 weeks

This was a group project for our materials class in second year architecture. The project was used as a lesson on time management skills and group work. Our cube consisted of 64 solid cubes, which were hand cut and assembled,as well as CNC’ed the frames of the cube. Once each groups cube was assembled, all 8 were stacked together to create a wall sized structure.

This magazine rack accompanied the World Cafe project, as an element thatunified the project. This was a group project, and as a group, we decided to createa magazine rack that could also effectively be used as a display. Because of the angles as well as the interior adjustable shelves, the entire structure can be used as adisplay, as well as storage. The design was created with the intention that many

would be made, and connected to eachother using the detachable shelving system.
