Ogle

FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear Friends, The feast of the Ascension is celebrated on Thursday of

this week, the fortieth day after Easter. It is par excellence a

celebration not only of an event in the life of Christ but also a

landmark for the ecclesial life that His Resurrection

engendered. The very choice of forty days after Easter is found

in St Luke’s Gospel in order remind us of the ecclesial nature of

our salvation: “ekklesia” is the Greek biblical word for church,

literally ”those called forth”. Forty is associated with the calling

forth of God’s people away from sin and to a more abundant

life. The forty days of Noah’s rain, the forty years of desert in

the Hebrew Exodus, Elijah strengthened by one angelic meal

went forty days to Mount Horeb, and Christ’s own forty days in

the desert, were to be valorized and redeemed by the

resurrection event. No longer would suffering and death have

the last word, and no longer would sin conquer human striving,

but rather supernatural grace would restore humanity to its

original eternal inheritance and empower us in the hope of its

achievement. In the Ascension, the Church becomes the place

where Christ’s power is made ecclesially effective in Word and

Mission: “Go and teach all nations, says the Lord; I am with you

always, until the end of the world.”

Such is the theology. But we must seek to render it

effective in practical terms. This month has seen that happen in

our local experience of being Christ’s “ekklesia” (church),

literally ”those called forth”:

On April 22 we saw our young people called forth in the

sacrament of Confirmation by Bishop Cisneros.

On April 29 we called forth for Mass and discussion over 70

lay leaders and staff from the eight parishes of our deanery

with Bishop Chappetto and Vicar Father Tom Pettei to

surface concerns about the future of our parishes.

Concerns were voiced about ministry to young working

adults, youth in school, senior citizen services and lector

enrichment.

On May 13 we called forth our younger children initiated to

the Lord’s table in First Holy Communion.

In May we called forth members of a new Parish Pastoral

Council to assist me and my staff in pastoral planning for

our parish. This group will, as stipulated in the directives for

councils, be filled out with members reflecting the entirety

of our parish. They will be installed at the 11:15am

Mass today.

Christ calls all us forth from the tomb of sin and death as He did

Lazarus. He calls us to be His Church, His ekklesia. In this

Ascensiontide, let us rise to the occasion, especially in our

parish efforts. Specifically, we remind of you of the Corpus

Christi procession on Sunday June 18 at 1:30PM, and to

prepare for our parish feast-day, to be celebrated on Saturday,

July 15 at the 5 PM Mass.

God love you— Msgr Ogle

MEDITATIONS FROM THE HOLY FATHER “Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or consecrated

life there is always strong and intense prayer from someone: a grand-mother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community… Vocations are

born in prayer and prayer, and only prayer can they preserve and bear

fruit.”

“The more we unite ourselves to Jesus through prayer, Sacred Scripture,

the Eucharist, the Sacraments celebrated and lived in the Church and in fraternity, the more there will grow in us the joy or cooperating with God

in service of the Kingdom of mercy and truth, of justice and peace. And the harvest will be plentiful, proportionate to the grace we have meekly

welcomed into our lives.” - Pope Francis

“Vocations to the ministerial priesthood and to the consecrated life are first and foremost the fruit of constant contact with the living God and

insistent prayer lifted up to the ‘Lord of harvest,’ wether in parish commu-nities, in Christian families or in groups specifically devoted to prayer for

vocations.”

“It is important to encourage and support those who show clear signs of a

call to priestly life and religious consecration and to enable them to feel the warmth of the whole community as they respond ‘yes’ to God and the

Church” -Pope Benedict XVI

“The family that cultivates a missionary spirit in its lifestyle and in educa-tion itself prepares good soil for the seed of the Divine call and, at the

same time, strengthens the loving ties and Christian virtues of all its mem-bers. The Christian family, as the ‘domestic Church’ forms the original

and fundamental school for training in the faith.”

“The lack of workers for God’s harvest was already a challenge in Gospel

times, even for Jesus himself. … He Also teaches us today that with prayer we can must influence the number of vocations. … Do not be afraid to go

out into the streets and the public places like the first apostles, who preached Christ and the good news of salvation in the squares of the cit-

ies, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. It is

the time to teach it from the rooftops.” -Pope John Paul II

ANNUAL SPRING LAY MINISTERS MEETING TUESDAY MAY 23, 2017 at 7:30pm

Tuesday, May 23 is the annual spring gathering of parish litur-gical ministers in English and Spanish for both Our Lady of Mount Carmel & Saint Margaret Mary. This year's theme will be: “OUR BLESSED MOTHER: MODEL FOR LAY MINIS-TERS”. The topic is because this year is the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary at Fatima in Portugal. The evening will consist as usual of a bi-lingual prayer service fol-lowed by separate talks in English and Spanish, then as a single community of ministers some words from me, and coffee and cake. We are very happy that our guest speakers this year will be Fr Rodnev Lapommeray of St Sebastian's church and Fr. Greg Dziedzic of Most Precious Blood. All lectors, extraordinary min-isters, members of choirs, ushers, greeters, and sacristans are in-vited.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel have collected foreign coins & bills found in the collection baskets, donation boxes and donations dropped off at the rectory. Unfortunately we are unable to use this currency or exchange them for their American value, however we have decided that we could help an organization who does re-ceive such currency. We will be giving out found and stored coins and bills to UNICEF who works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of children. If you would like to make use of any extra foreign coins you have around the house, or from any vacations you may have returned from and would like to donate it to this organization, you may drop them off at the rectory office.
