2011/2012 – a busy time for TSQAP!
• Extended rainfall closures
• Major flood events
• Sanitary survey issues
• Conditions outside
normal
• Sewage overflows
• Toxic blooms
• New growing areas

Algal monitoring frequency
• After two years of receiving CAR’s from DAFF on the algal monitoring frequency we have had to develop a policy to improve
• Every growing area has an industry sampler and a set timetable for sampling
• A “gentle” reminder is sent if a sample is missed
• The growing area is closed the next week if a sample is not forthcoming
• Thank your sampler
• Make sure your area has a back-up
Inactive Leases
• No longer monitored by TSQAP
• Classification will lapse
• Plan ahead if you want to re-activate
Budget increases
Budget Increases • Sampling
– Heavy metals and pesticides
– Algal monitoring – Biotoxins – Bacterial sampling
• Motor vehicle • Other
Efforts to reduce the budget • Reduced boat work –
hitching a lift with farmers • Reduced contract
samplers
Nationally
• Great co-operation between three major states now • Australian Seafood Biotoxin Partnership - Biotoxin lab now in Sydney
• FSANZ review of biotoxin maximum allowable levels
• drop the level of DST from 20 mg/kg to 16 mg/kg (shouldn’t affect us)
• ASQAP manual rewrite - Big ticket item
• SafeFish
Nationally
Internationally
• Viruses – risk assessments of viruses in growing areas, with the probable requirement that some areas will be subjected to regular testing requirements (e.g. areas in large populations)
• Vibrios – similarly • Salmonella – scientific opinion paper resulting in a potential removal from export sampling requirements
• Codex – methods for determination of biotoxins (both screening and confirmatory)
Codex Committee of Fish and Fisheries Products
Looking forward to 2013
• Relaying protocol development
• Development of practical means of reducing the sampling
budget
• Increased biotoxin testing – regular testing in medium and
high risk areas during the high risk period
• SENSET
SenseT

• All sensor data on one page
• Traffic light warnings
• Machine learning
