Alcohol
USU code prohibits possession, consumption, sale, distribution, manufacture, or storage of any alcoholic beverage.
Housing regulations further prohibit possession or storage of full or empty alcoholic beverage containers/bottles/receptacles, as well as home brewing kits or neon advertising materials.
Alcohol Response
Identify minors. If minors are present call the police.If no minors are present, only call the police
if residents are uncooperative or you feel that you need backup.
Disposal of alcohol should always be the LAST step. It may be required as evidence.

ProStaff on-call should always be called by the RA dealing with the incident.
Complete the Incident Report within 24 hours.
Drugs
Police should immediately be called if drug violations occur.
Police might also be called if drug use/abuse is suspected.If you’re not sure what that smell is, get a
second opinion.

Smoking
Utah Clean Air Act (1995) “A person may not smoke in a building, or portion of a building that is owned, leased, or occupied by the state or any state agency”
Smoking must take place 25 feet away from any building entrance, exit, air-intake, or windows that can be opened.
Resident can be fined $25 for non-compliance.
Littering IS an issue ($299.00 fine).

FSH:Visitation periods that extend beyond 3 days
must be approved in advance and in writing by the Area Coordinator. Failure to do so will result in $100 fine.

Potentially dangerous weapons are prohibited in Housing.
Fireworks are prohibited.
Pets
Harboring animals on University property is prohibited.
Only exception is fish (gilled, finned, scaled, legless, vertebrate aquatic animals incapable of leaving their environment on their own power) contained in a tank of 20 gallons or less.

Certified service assistant animals are allowed as are companion pets that are approved by the Disability Resource Center or the Counseling Center as a form of treatment.
Violation: $50 fine for the offense, animal must be removed within 3 days or $100 fine is assessed and eviction proceedings initiated.
MHP: Trailer Owners are granted approval for one pet on a case by case basis.
Child Supervision
Parents are financially responsible for the actions of their children.

Housing retains legal ownership and ultimate possession and control of a resident’s room.
We reserve the right to enter for inspection, repair, protect health/safety, aid in the basic responsibility of the University regarding discipline and maintenance of an educational atmosphere.
