How to Use tHe CHeCklist:When using the following checklist there are a few items to note:

1. Verify that you are using the proper checklist for the appropriate aircraft.2. Bold Items are immediate action.3. “Bold” Items are verbal callouts.4. Italicized are information items.5. ALL CAPS is action to be performed.6. Underlined is an action to be completed when parameters have been met.7. Verify that you have the MOST CURRENT REVISION.8. All checklists are arranged in the following order: some items might be combined for brevity.

PreflightNormal

ManeuversAbnormal (Pink)

9. Boxed checklists - - are performed as “Read and Do” checklists while dashed checklists - - are performed from memory.10. ALWAYS CHECK WITH THE AFM if you are in doubt about anything.11. Lines are included under checklist headers to identify the key tasks that must be accomplished before continuing with the checklist.

NOTE: Carburetor heat should be used as deemed necessary by the pilot to avoid carburetor ice formation!

Carburetor Heat should be used anytime carbure-tor icing is suspected or anytime the potential for

carburetor ice is present.• Carburetor heat will be ON for any descent

and may be turned OFF upon leveling-off.• Carburetor heat will be turned ON during the

Downwind and turned OFF with flap application on Base.

• Carburetor heat will be turned OFF 200 feet above MDA or DH on an instrument approach and then used as necessary after arriving at MDA or DH.

FUel pUMp sop

Fuel Pump should be off when above 500’ AGL unless deemed necessary for the safety of flight. Verify Fuel pressure prior to turning off the fuel

pump.

Fuel Pump should be off when above 500’ AGL unless deemed necessary for the safety of flight. Verify Fuel pressure prior to turning off the fuel

pump.

Operations at high altitudes may cause vapor bubbles, resulting in intermittent low fuel pres-sure indications. If this occurs, the electric fuel

pump may be turned ON and the flight can be continued as normal. If the low fuel pressure

message remains, refer to the LOW FUEL PRES-SURE emergency checklist.

NOTE: Speeds listed for landing are referenced to the runway being made. Hold 82 KIAS until runway threshold for Normal landings. For Shortfield landings establish 75 KIAS on final

NOTE: Vx is always less than Vy. For the DA-42 however, the actual value of Vx is below the minimum safe speed with one engine being inoperative. The minimum speed for best angle of climb was therefore raised to the value of Vy.

NOTE: Recovers promptly by simultaneously reducing power sufficiently on the operating engine while decreasing the angle of attack as necessary to regain airspeed and directional control. Recovery SHOULD NOT be attempted by increasing the power on the simulated failed engine. USU uses the rule of thumb of “RAISE THE DEAD” engine for a zero sideslip condition with a bank into the “GOOD” engine.
