We were the first school to trial the electronic gates and the electronic gun owned by the Little Athletics Association. There were some issues but they will be corrected in the future. It was wonderful to see Year 2-6 who whole heartedly participated and congratulated their peers throughout the day. The sportsmanship was fantastic! I have never seen so many competitors in the 800m race. Congratulations to the children of Albion Park Public School. Well done! A big thank you to the Mik Calzaisis for his organisation of the carnival and to the teachers and parents who assisted with jobs on the day. Learning For Life We are partnering with the Smith Family to offer scholarships to families who hold a Health Care Card. Families are eligible for $420 per year for each primary school aged child and $679 for each high school student. This is first year that Albion Park PS has completed the assessments online and it has been very successful. I have witnessed very low levels of anxiety about NAPLAN this year and most students have reported that they felt they were able to complete each test easier than the written tests of the past. I am very proud of all of our students for working so hard to complete the four tests. Over the next few months the school and parents will receive valuable data on the progression of each student, however, I must remind each parent that these tests are a snap shot in time and although they give a picture of academic achievement they need to be understood as only one component of your childs overall academic progress on a given day.

Electronic Absences

It is now possible to send in an absence note electronically via the Enews app.

When you sign in, go to digital forms and enter your child's details. It is then sent to the school and we print it out and give it to the class teacher.

Computer Room Update Mrs Callaghan has stated that the lessons over the past weeks with coding have been successful. The children across K-6 have been participating in unplugged coding activities, as well as online activities through Hour Code. Next week Mrs Callaghan will start coding tangible items such as robots. Kindergarten and the Support Unit will be introduced to the world of robotics using the Code and Go Robot Mouse. Years 1-6 will be participating in a range of developmentally sequenced activities using Micro:Bit. If children would like to use this at home, all the activities can be accessed through makecode.microbit.org. Children don’t need the actual Micro:Bit, as they can use the online simulator. The next five weeks of robotics will be very exciting. Congratulations Mrs Callaghan on doing an excellent job implementing STEM throughout the school. GRIP, the school Presidents and Vice Presidents will be attending a Leadership Workshop this Friday with Ms Reilly. They will be developing important leadership skills that will help them in High School.

Library News!

National Simultaneous Storytime- 'Alpacas with Maracas'

Wednesday 22nd May at 11.00 am

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools and many other places around the country. Our school will be taking part in this event on Wednesday 22nd May at 11.00 am in classrooms and the library. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the Curriculum. Please feel free to come and visit our library!

Canteen News - Mothers Day Stall The P&C would like to thank all of the helpers involved with the Mother's Day Stall this year. It takes a long time to wrap, sort and sell all of the gifts and without people coming in to help days like these wouldn't be possible. The P&C made a profit of $1881.35. All money raised by the P&C goes back into the school helping to purchase playground equipment, class supplies and much more. We hope everyone liked their gifts.

Fundraiser This year the P&C has decided to hold a Cadburys chocolate fundraiser as one of our major fundraising activities. The boxes have been delivered to your child’s classroom on Monday 3rd of June. The chocolates are to be sold for $1 each individual chocolate. As a safety precaution the P&C does not promote the children going door to door selling the chocolates unless properly supervised by a parent or guardian. Money from the chocolates is to be returned in the enclosed envelopes but please don’t stress if you misplace it, you can also put the money in a normal envelope labelled with your child’s name, class and amount enclosed. These are to be given to your child’s class teacher on money collection days (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) and will be sent to the office for collection by the P&C. Money and any unsold chocolates need to be returned no later than Friday 28th of June. The P&C would like to thank everyone participating in this fundraiser in advance for your support. Also a thank you to those families who opt out of the fundraiser and instead made a donation. Without the help of parents and students assisting us with our fundraising we wouldn’t be able to help the school purchase much needed items such as: smart boards, books, gardens and other equipment. Additional boxes will be available if anyone would like to sell more than one. The P&C asks for the money to be returned from the original box before additional boxes are dropped off to your child’s class for them. Thankyou P&C Committee Earn and Learn has started and will be going until 25th June. When shopping at Woolies please collect your Earn and Learn points for the school. This year the Woolies Earn and Learn will be for the Library and Stage 2. Each year a different stage will benefit from the points earned. Next year it will be for stage 3.

PLAYGROUP Do you have a child aged 0 - 5 years old? Do you need to get out of the house and meet

new friends? Do you wish your child had someone to play with or a range

of different and stimulating activities to take part in? Albion Park High School’s Year 9 Child Studies students are

running a PLAYGROUP starting Term 2 on the 28th of

May to supplement their learning in this subject. The Play-group will continue to be run every Tuesday for the remain-der of the school year and will be held between the times of 10.35am-11:35am. A small cost of $2 per family will cover morning tea and go towards any materials needed. The stu-dents in Child Studies have identified that ‘play’ is vital for a child’s social, emotional and physical health, and therefore Albion Park High School has been committed to providing this opportunity to both the students and members in its surrounding community for the past 20 years.
