with Bemidji State on a six-game point streak (3g, 3a), the longest for UAH this season but the run came to an end in Friday night’s lost to BSU. Baxter however, picked up the pace again on Saturday night with a three-point night, scoring a pair of power-play lamp lighters and adding an assist.

power play conVertingThe Charger power play has seen plenty of success in 2010-11 having notched 27 goals with the man advantage this season ranking the Blue and White with the fourth-most power-play goals in the nation. The Chargers boast a 22.5% conversion rate that ranks 10th-best in Division I hockey.

new faces aplentyAlong with a new head coach at the top, the Chargers have a number of other new members of the staff and team. Mike Warde returns to college hockey this fall as the Chargers top assistant having previously coached at Iona and Army. Warde is joined by former Denver standout Gavin Morgan, who has spent the last 10-plus years playing professional hockey.

The Chargers also welcomed in 11 freshmen into the program and those newcomers are already having an immediate impact as all 11 seen the ice in 2010-11. Freshman forward Mac Roy is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 12 points (4g, 8a) on the young season. The youth movement is front and center for the program as UAH features only eight players combined that are of junior or senior status.

nashVille series Quickly approachingEarly in 2011, the Chargers will take their shortest road trip in school history to play a contest as UAH hosts Merrimack at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators. The two-game series mark the first NCAA Division I hockey games in the history of the state of Tennessee. Tickets are on sale now for both games as well as the Predators/Blackhawks contest that follows UAH’s Saturday matinee.

talBot playing well in ahl After backing the Chargers to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010, Cameron Tablot was signed to an NHL deal by the New York Rangers. Talbot opened his professional career with a bang, notching a 41-save shutout in his first pro start. Since then, Talbot has been solid for the Hartford Wolfpack posting a 5-2-2 mark with a .918 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA.

Burky returns as captainFor the second-straight season, Charger senior Ryan Burkholder was chose by his teammates to wear the “C” for UAH. Joining Burkholder in the leadership role are assistant captains Matt Baxter, Chris Fairbanks and Curtis deBruyn.
