Message from MCPe Tobias Mészáros

Dear Applicant,

It is my greatest honour to present you the one and only opportunity to become part of the MC of AIESEC in Namibia for the term 2015-2016. I believe it is one of the bravest most honourable steps you can take in your younger years, to gather all your confidence in taking the responsibility of leading an up-rising entity.

All journeys start somewhere and mine starts with the deepest believe that we are powerful beyond measure. Everyday is a gift for you to reach another peak in the fulfilment of your potential. Spend it with people who give you the encouragement and confidence to continuously step out of your comfort zone. The only person you should compare yourself with is the person you were yesterday and make sure you climb on that ladder everyday.

I am inviting you to be part of an environment of ladder climbers providing you an atmosphere beyond your imaginations. If you have an inner belief of becoming more and giving more to the world than I challenge you to take the brave step of becoming part of the Member Committee of AIESEC in Namibia.

Best of luck,

Tobias Mészáros MCPe AIESEC in Namibia 15.16

5-16 Context of AIESEC Namibia

AIESEC in Namibia started back in July 2013 and has now entered its second operational term in its history. You as part of the MC will be leading the third generation of AIESEC here in Namibia. We are currently still a Contracted Unit with AIESEC in Germany who supported the expansion financially as well as with HR and coaching support in the first year. Currently both MC’s are working on a new contract to prolong the financial support for the expansion. Upon finally receiving legal registration in October 2014, the entity aims to gain full membership at IC 2015 in August.

AIESEC in Namibia currently operates with 2 LC´s, while an expansion to a third University is in progress here in Windhoek. The LC EB cycle run from January to December to match the academic year adopted by the universities, meaning the LC and MC terms differ by 6 months. The current team launched an internal campaign aimed at growing the first generation to deliver 100 exchanges in 1 year with oGCDP as their focus program. The campaign called “Gen100” is the central element to the planned legacy of the 14.15 team. However, the campaign represents a lot more than simply 100 exchanges. It would mean the real possibility of a financial sustainable AIESEC in Namibia that has the internal capacity to deliver these experiences and a strong leadership pipeline to serve future generations. To achieve this dream AIESEC in Namibia takes an active and integrated part of the AIESEC in Southern Africa sub-region collaboration as is demonstrated by the fact we hosted the first ever AIESEC in Southern Africa Summit this September 2014. Other activities this term include a cultural TtT seminar for OPS and RIS trainers happened in October, general TtT seminars in January and May, a Youth to Business Forum in April, and our National Conference in September and March. Currently the MC team consists of the MCP, also in charge of Finance and BD, and MCVP ICX & TM, and an MCVP OGX & COM. The National Team further included 3 NST members and 3 different CEED'ers for Q3&Q4 of 2014, with new ones to be selected for Q1&Q2 of 2015.

5-16 The Country Namibia

At 2 million habitants across 800,000+ km2 creating a density of 2.5 people per km2, Namibia is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, but also one the most prosperous in the region. Namibia has excellent infrastructure that provides plenty of opportunity for growth and two expand public universities with AIESEC LCs in each of them. Namibia was colonised by Germany and after the WW1 by South Africa who refused to leave after UN mandate to govern the territory expired. The end of South African Apartheid-rule meant Namibia became independent in 1990. Since then the former rebel group SWAPO has won successive elections and provided the heads of state. Namibia enjoys political stability, democracy and press freedom.

Windhoek the capital accommodates some 300.000 inhabitants and has all the conveniences of modern life. Due to its German connections and developed infrastructure and buildings, some fin the capital relatively Western compared to other African capitals. Namibia youth are very eager to develop their country and get ahead in life as the generation now graduating from universities is the first experience fully equal rights and access to education and jobs.

Namibia might have some of the most beautiful places you can visit due to its breathtaking sceneries and diversity in landscapes. Windhoek is build at 1700 km above sea level on the Thomas Hochland, which means it is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges. The Western coast is characterised by the Namib Desert, the oldest stretching out from Botswana. The North is coloured green by its rivers and bordering Angola, Zambia and the Okavango Delta in Botswana it is the most densely populated area in the country.

5-16 MC working and living Conditions

AIESEC in Namibia currently rents part of a house, commonly known as the MC house, in a residential neighbourhood. We have our own front door, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (1 ensuite), a kitchen, an office/living space and some space outside to enjoy the sun. The MC house accommodates up to 8 people plus short-term visitors such as conference chairs and facilitates from abroad. Currently those spaces are occupied by the MC on AISEC budget and CEEDers/Interns that pay a small rental fee. the house also functions as office space due to the fact that our budget does not allow for a separate office and no sponsored office space has been secured so far.

It is vital for any applicant to understand the limited financial capacity of AIESEC in Namibia. While we are growing and becoming more sustainable, there is still a long way to go before MC salaries can be guaranteed, especially when expanding the MC team to hold more positions. The current team is doing all they can to secure a better situation for the next term.
