Back In The Day...

FIFA World Cup FactsThe competition has been played every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930, except in 1942and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War.The 19 FIFA World Cup tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Brazil have wonfive times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament.The FIFA World Cup is the world's most widely viewed sporting event; an estimated 715.1 million peoplewatched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany.

Last Saturday night the Senior Women’s Committee were proud to hold this season’s first combined men’sand women’s event – the AFC 90s party. The effort people went to with their costumes was impressive andin such a competitive field, choosing the winners for Best Dressed was a difficult task. After muchconsultation, Best Dressed Male crown was awarded to Jon Corcoran (as William Wallace), while CharRaghnaill (as The Mask) took out the title of Best Dressed Female. Thank you to all the players and coachesthat came along, with special thanks to our Senior Women’s Committee members for their organisationalefforts. Planning for our next event is already underway and we look forward to seeing you all there!

It's been a topsy turvey season which has the City 1s tied on pointswith upcoming opponent Eastern Suburbs. With an ever changingsquad, injuries and the re-shuffle of the coaches, our team hasreally struggled for consistency this season. The attitude of the boyshas been fantastic though and every player that has been asked toplay for the City 1s, whether it be from Capital 1, Capital 1 Reserveor City 2, have come in and given 100%. The gaffer Danny Powerhas done a great job in managing a huge squad of players andfielding a competitive team every week. I believe we have a talentedsquad that can challenge for a finals position this season.

The last few weeks have seen us dealt defeats by undefeated LionsFC and competition favourites UQ, but after a 3-1 win againstTaringa we are looking to continue our winning ways and turn ourseason around starting this Friday. If we can manage a win againstEasts this week, there's a good chance we will jump up to 5th. . Afew of our lads are ex-Easts and are pumped for a win - we'd love tosee you all there.

Previous Men's Results...Only three of the clubs men's teams saw football action over the long weekend. The City 1's returnedto winning ways with a 3-1 victory away to Taringa Rovers. Similarly, City 3 got up 2-0 again overBrighton Bulldogs. The City 4's faced a tough assignment away to Peninsula Power, losing 6-1.

After a few weeks playingaway, it is great to be playingback at home on Elder Oval.It's also wonderful to see theclubhouse get a muchneeded face lift, thankslargely to the efforts of anumber of players from ourwomen's teams.

Previous Women's Results...Only two of our women's teams played last weekend, City 1 & 4. The City 1 side had a strong 4-1 winover UQ at UQ. The City 4 women played a tough game against the Grange unfortunately losing 4-2.

Today we welcome Logan to Elder Oval. Logan are sitting in second spot, with us justbehind in third. This is going to be a very tough game and it is made that little bit tougherwith a handful of players away. Having said that, we have seen great improvement sinceround one as the girls continue to develop and understand my stuctures, and today wewill look to continue our good run. I'm sure this is going to be a cracker of a game.
