• Continuity / uniformity• Houses chapter supplies / records
• Support for chapter activities• Leadership development• Good judgment / voice of reason
A Good Advisor
• Aids chapter in setting goals• Motivates member participation
• Enthusiastically participates in chapter activities
• Knows when to intervene• Provides Feedback / Positive
reinforcement

• Understands university & TBP policies
• Liaison between chapter and institution
• Develops future leadership• Trains successors
• Divides duties
A Good Advisor is
• Visible• Consistent• Has a sense of humor
A Good Advisor does not
• Assume leadership / ownership• Meetings• Projects• Finances• Records
• Dominate / Influence / Control• Underestimate influence
A Good Advisor is not
• Passive Bystander• Too busy
How to Find an Advisor
• Must be a Tau Bate – but can be initiated
• “Favorite” faculty members• P&T vs Service
• Diverse departments• Retired faculty• Alumni members• Enlist administration
Care & Feeding of Advisors
• Show Appreciation• Include in communications• Meet informally• Invite to social events• Suggest attend District/National
meetings
