From the Library Director

The spring is a busy time for the library as we gear up for two of our annual library fundraisers. First is the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale. The Friends of the Library hold two book sales a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The money from these sales allows the Friends to sponsor most of the library programming, the Museum and Attraction pass program, and to also give the library additional funds for materials and technology. The Friends work throughout the year sorting through donations to give the best selection at each book sale. This spring book sale will be held on May 1, 2 and 3 at the Newington Senior and Disabled Center across the street from the library. Thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and specially priced materials will be for sale at prices much lower than you would find online or in a used book store.

The second fundraiser is the 19th Annual Newington Library 5K Challenge road race, presented by the Library Board of Trustees. The road race will be held on Sunday, May 17. It has become a community-wide event that attracts runners and walkers of all ages. Library Board trustees, volunteers and local businesses donate time and resources each year to make this family–friendly race a success. The money that is raised is used to help make the library, a vital town organization. Recently, money raised from past races, was used to renovate a library public meeting room, giving it a new look with new wiring and furniture making the room multifunctional and tech–friendly. You can register at the library, download the race form from the library website or register online at www.active.com.

Whether you are looking for great reading or listening materials for all ages and/or looking to spend a fun morning running or walking the library’s 5K road race, join us at one or both fundraising events to help support the library.
