The GRE General Test has three sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing. There are no specific eligibility criteria for GRE 2017 Test. Hence, aspirants sitting for GRE test 2017 do not have to fulfill any necessary GRE 2017 eligibility criteria. Aspirants can register for the test irrespective of age and qualification. However, candidates have to fulfill the GRE eligibility criteria 2017 for individual institutes where they are applying. Since, GRE is a postgraduate test, students who have cleared their undergraduate level opt for the examination for entry into Masters or PhD courses abroad. Srijan also spoke on how to face HR interviews during placements.

Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching and running a new business, which is often initially a small business, and the people who create these businesses are called entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship has been described as the "capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit . He told about contributor program wherein what each person can contribute to the society, in turn can contribute to the nation. He asked students to think about entrepreneurship in the initial phase of life itself. He said that instead of finding job after graduation, become a person who gives job to others. Believe in yourself. No job can give you life long success, so take up entrepreneurship. He motivated students to take up entrepreneurship. He said that going abroad and getting a good job is not sufficient. Entrepreneurship is above that. Thinking new ideas and implementing them is a challenging task but it is well rewarded.

A talk on "Psychological Impact on Personal and Professional Life"

15th February 2018

All faculty & Selected Students

Dr. Kusum Bhat

Dr. Kusum Bhat talked on how to lead a balanced life that is balancing personal and professional life in an appropriate manner. She said that giving time to family is also important along with the professional life. If the job runs from 9 to 5, rest of the time we have to dedicate to family. If not, life will not be balanced. While working, we have to dedicate complete time to work, after work, while with family, we should dedicate complete time to family. Both should not be mixed. Or else, there will not be a balance. She also spoke about letting go of things which are not in control. If our children have different way of seeing things, we have to accept them, as even they are matured to understand things. We should not force our thoughts on them.

It was a nice talk about leading a balanced life.

Mr. Vidyaranya

The HR Head, Mphasis

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur had organized talk on “Corporate Expectations” for VI semester students of CSE & ISE, which was conducted successfully with the active participation of Staffs and Students.Talk was delivered by Mr. Vidyaranya, The HR Head, Mphasis on 19th March 2018, from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm on Corporate Expectations.

Mr. Vidyaranya said that an engineer must possess good communication skills if he expects to be hired into a good firm or organization. Very often, the firms and organizations look for individuals who can go beyond the books and think brightly. One needs to be logical and think intellectually. While there are many engineering graduates who score well in their papers, there are very few who are true leaders. The greatest risk of being in the field of technology is that the technology existing now can become obsolete some day. One must be prepared to upgrade your skills to match the latest in technology.

Miss. Mariam Anum, 6th Semester, Dept. of ISE had rendered the master of ceremony for the event.

12 Talk on "Big Data"

22nd Mar 2018

Final year students [CS/IS] and faculty

Mr. Rathinaraj Jeyaraj

Research Scholar, NITK Surathkal

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur had organized the technical talk on “Big Data” for VIII semester students of CSE & ISE, which was conducted successfully with the active participation of students on 22 March 2018. Mr. Rathinaraj Jeyaraj is currently a research scholar in the department of IT, NITK. He completed his B.Tech and M.Tech in Anna University, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. He has worked as a Assistant Professor in the department of CSE, NIT Calicut for 2.5 years. HE is very much interested in Big data analytics, NoSQL databases, virtualization and cloud computing. He has published 2 conference papers for his research. Big data is a phrase used to mean a massive volume of both structured and unstructured data that is so large it is difficult to process using traditional database and software techniques. In most enterprise scenarios the volume of data is too big or it moves too fast or it exceeds current processing capacity. Big Data has the potential to help companies improve operations and make faster, more intelligent decisions. The data is collected from a number of sources including emails, mobile devices, applications, databases, servers and other means. This data, when captured, formatted, manipulated, stored and then analyzed, can help a company to gain useful insight to increase revenues, get or retain customers and improve operations. While the term may seem to reference the volume of data, that isn't always the case. The term big data, especially when used by vendors, may refer to the technology (which includes the tools and processes), that an organization requires to handle the large amounts of data and storage facilities.

Mr. Dwaraknath,8th Semester, Dept. of CSE has rendered the master of ceremony, welcome speech and vote of thanks for the event.
