April in the Information Center National Library Month and Children’s Book Week National Library Week begins April 10th, Meadowview is celebrating a week early with activities in the Information Center designed to inspire the students to try new genres and find new titles to read. In the Library - *Students came into the story corner to hear a favorite story read by a staff, guest mystery reader . Mrs. Morgan, assistants and many other staff members surprised the students with one of their favorite books. *QR codes made their way into the library with guess the title and character activities. The students read a word cloud full of clues about a book or examined a silhouette of a character, then guessed the title of the book. Scanning the QR code revealed the answer. *2 nd -4 th graders came to the Library “Book Buffet”. Each library table was filled with titles from various genres. The students had a 3-minute “taste” of the book to see if they enjoyed that genre. Many students now have a long TBR (to be read) list to take to the library next week. The Computer Lab- *In the computer lab all students work on researching, keyboarding and internet safety skills. The 1 st and 2 nd graders are working on their keyboarding and editing skills, by keyboarding with 2 hands, correcting mistakes, and changing the font. They have also worked on coding and math skills with our Beebot robots. *3 rd and 4 th graders are using the typing.com website to practice keyboarding and have been reviewing text features to help find facts in texts and websites. They have coded Dash robots to practice angles and perimeter and are now learning to retell a story coding in an app Scratch Jr. Meadowview A World to Discover at 291 Lexington Lane, Grayslake, IL 60030 - Phone 847-223-3656 - Fax 847-223-3531 Laura Morgan, Principal April 7, 2017
