ACTIVE AGING WEEKJoin us the last week of September

as we celebrate the positivity of aging today! The week focuses

on the capabilities of older adults as fully participating members of society, embracing them as role

models. At V!VA Barrhaven, we will be hositng relevant presentations

and activities as they relate to living a healthy active life.

A Successful BBQ ExtravaganzaA strong sense of community was clearly evident and thriving at V!VA Barrhaven’s BBQ Extravaganza. Community Members and guests gathered for a delicious summer’s day over barbecue and live music by the great Guy Lalonde. Everyone had so much fun dunking each other at the dunk tank station and the opportunity to try their luck at the crown and anchor table. Thank you to everyone who joined us for what was a fabulous afternoon!

Trivia NightCommunity Members at V!VA Barrhaven gathered for a night of trivia, accompanied by delicious pub fare food prepared by our Culinary Team. A toast to another evening of great fun and laughs!

Picnic at Pink LakeCommunity Members enjoyed a beautiful day at Pink Lake in the Gatineau Hills. From taking in the breath-taking views of the hills to enjoying a wonderful picnic lunch

prepared by our Culinary Team, Community Members enjoyed yet another great summer trip. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this excursion and making it another great memory for all!

Casablanca (1942)Casablanca is a timeless love story and a thrilling adventure set in Moroccan Casablanca during the early part of World War II. It remains one of the most quotable movies and one of the greatest romantic dramas ever produced; it follows the story of an American expatriate who reunites with a former lover.

The Seventh Seal (1957)Ingmar Bergman’s Swedish masterpiece concerns an exhausted and disillusioned knight returning playing a game of chess with Death. The Seventh Seal is a dream-like epic which questions the meaning of life, and existence against the chilling backdrop of the Black Plague. With haunting cinematography that will ensure Bergman’s mesmerizing vision remains with you forever, the strong performances and stunningly executed themes succeed in creating a darkly beautiful work.

Sunset Boulevard (1950)Sunset Boulevard is an insightful combination of film noir and black comedy about an ageing silent-film star who traps a young screenwriter. Ultimately, the movie portrays Tinsel Town as nothing but a land of dreams. The story is rife with fantastic performances and comedic moments, ensuring that this is one of the greatest black-and-white films ever made.

Metropolis (1926)Fritz Lang’s legendary masterpiece has defined the science fiction genre since its release in the first half of the twentieth century. In a futuristic city divided between the rich and the poor, the son of a wealthy city planner falls in love with a lower class prophet. With stunning images and timeless themes, Metropolis is greatly regarded as marking the beginning of modern cinema, and is a cautionary tale of a future dominated by machines.

Psycho (1960)Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is follows a secretary who steals a large amount of money, ends up in a motel and is then mysteriously murdered – to this day, the “shower scene” terrifies audiences. Often imitated, parodied, analyzed, and referenced, it is no wonder that Psycho remains ahead of the game in the horror genre.
