S t . P h i l ip ' s Ep i s cop a l Chur c h Council 2015 is almost upon us!
There’s a lot of excitement building toward Annual Council 2015, hosted by St. Philip’s, and our three partner churches: St. Peter’s by the Lake, St. Christopher’s, and Chapel of the Cross! We can’t wait to have Episcopalians from all over Mississippi in our capital city, as we witness an historic occasion in the life of our diocese, as Bishop Duncan Gray, III will “pass the crozier” to Bishop Brian Seage. At that moment, Bishop Seage will become the tenth bishop of the Diocese of Mississippi. Of course, as we move toward that Sunday morning liturgy, there is plenty of work to be done to get there! All Philippians will be called upon to assist in some way. The Steering Committee for Council has been working for months to organize, and now we need you! There will be opportunities to stuff packets the week prior to Council, and we need dozens of volunteers during the weekend to serve as hospitality, registration and visitor information contacts. I hope that many of you have signed up on the volunteer website, but we will be making “in person” appeals this month to be sure all the spots are covered. Of course, we will have lots of assistance from our partner churches, but since St. Philip’s is the primary host, we want to be as visible and helpful as we can be! There is information about registration, events, and business meetings on the diocesan website and in the last issue of the Mississippi Episcopalian. Even if you’re not attending the business sessions, we hope that all Philippians will attend the opening night reception at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Advance tickets for that event are $50.00 per person and can only be purchased through the church office, by January 28. The closing liturgy, at which Bishop Seage will become the diocesan bishop, is on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Convention Complex downtown. All Jackson area churches have been encouraged to “move their services” to the Convention Complex for this Sunday only, so there will be no Sunday liturgies at St. Philip’s that Sunday, February 8. All are invited, and of course, no one need be registered for Council to attend this Closing Eucharist. Stay tuned for more information about how you can be involved in this wonderful celebration of our common life as we live, work and pray our way toward “Being One Church”. If you have questions or concerns, please call Machelle Bernheim at 601.842.6068, or Jill Bullard at 601.668.1465. Blessings, Kyle+
