There’s a lot of excitement building toward Annual Council 2015, hosted by St. Philip’s, and our three partner churches: St. Peter’s by the Lake, St. Christopher’s, and Chapel of the Cross! We can’t wait to have Episcopalians from all over Mississippi in our capital city, as we witness an historic occasion in the life of our diocese, as Bishop Duncan Gray, III will “pass the crozier” to Bishop Brian Seage. At that moment, Bishop Seage will become the tenth bishop of the Diocese of Mississippi. Of course, as we move toward that Sunday morning liturgy, there is plenty of work to be done to get there! All Philippians will be called upon to assist in some way. The Steering Commiee for Council has been working for months to organize, and now we need you! There will be opportunies to stuff packets the week prior to Council, and we need dozens of volunteers during the weekend to serve as hospitality, registraon and visitor informaon contacts. I hope that many of you have signed up on the volunteer website, but we will be making “in person” appeals this month to be sure all the spots are covered. Of course, we will have lots of assistance from our partner churches, but since St. Philip’s is the primary host, we want to be as visible and helpful as we can be! There is informaon about registraon, events, and business meengs on the diocesan website and in the last issue of the Mississippi Episcopalian. Even if you’re not aending the business sessions, we hope that all Philippians will aend the opening night recepon at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Advance ckets for that event are $50.00 per person and can only be purchased through the church office, by January 28. The closing liturgy, at which Bishop Seage will become the diocesan bishop, is on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Convenon Complex downtown. All Jackson area churches have been encouraged to “move their services” to the Convenon Complex for this Sunday only, so there will be no Sunday liturgies at St. Philip’s that Sunday, February 8. All are invited, and of course, no one need be registered for Council to aend this Closing Eucharist. Stay tuned for more informaon about how you can be involved in this wonderful celebraon of our common life as we live, work and pray our way toward “Being One Church”.
