Using Charts

Guidelines in Using Charts

One great way of presenting information is to incorporate visual aids into vocal or writtenpresentations. The simple addition of a graph or chart can add more meaning than a thousandwords. For some people it takes a visual presentation to get an idea across because they arevisual learners. Always remember, however, that a visual aid is only supposed to support apresentation.

Limit one topic or message per chart.

Charts should be labelled properly so that they can be easily understood.

State the topic or message in the heading of the chart.

Use darker fonts to help certain information stand out.

Use different colours to differentiate between one piece of information and another.

Make sure the information your are presenting is accurate and correct.

Do not include unnecessary information. It will only create confusion!

Make bars and columns wider than the spaces between them.

Learn how to use presentation software.

It can really help you and it will make your job of designing a presentation easier.
