    SLOGAN

A business slogan is a simple and catchy phrase accompanying a logo or brand, that captures a

business's appeal or the mission of a business and makes it more memorable. It is a short and

striking or memorable phrase used in advertising and is sometimes referred to as a motto. A

slogan when used consistently over a long period, becomes an important component of a

    businesss identification or image.

Create a slogan for your business. This slogan will be used throughout your business

    publications.

    LOGO

A logo is a name, symbol, emblem, or trademark designed to establish a professional business

image and to become easily recognizable in the minds of consumers. In short, a logo is one of

the most important elements in defining an image for a company. A logo can contain text,

graphics, or a combination of both.

Create a logo for your business and save it as a .jpg file. The logo will be used

    throughout your business publications.

Strategies and Design Tips to Consider Before Creating a Logo

Be sure that your logo is not too complex. The best logos are those that are easy to read

    and recognize.

Use only one typeface (font) in the logo.

A logo should look good at any size. Keep in mind that your logo will be included in just

about every document of a business.

Consider using a slogan, ("The best pizzeria in town!") in the logo design.

    MISSION STATEMENTS

    Personal Mission Statement

You should develop a personal mission statement. Your personal mission statement should

describe your goals, your priorities, and your values.

A personal mission statement is a brief description of what an individual wants to focus

on, wants to accomplish and wants to become. It is a way to focus energy, actions, behaviors

and decisions towards the things that are most important to the individual. Your personal

mission statement should be a concise representation of what is most important to you, what you

desire to focus on, what you want to achieve, and, ultimately, who you want to become.

    Your statement of purpose should:

Define what is important to you (your values).

Specify how you intend to go about fulfilling your priorities (your endeavors).

Write your personal mission statement in a format for it to be framed and hung.

I will seek to learn, for learning is the basis for growth, and growing is the key to living. I will

seek first to understand, for understanding is the key to finding value, and value is the basis for

respect, decisions, and action. This should be my first act with my wife, my family, and my

business. I want to teach my children and others to love and laugh, to learn and grow beyond

    their current bounds.

I will build personal, business, and civic relationships by giving, in frequent little ways.

To forgive but not forget, so as to learn from each experience.

To find my inner strength and overcome obstacles that hide my goals.

To be guided by my values and beliefs.

To give thanks in some measurable way each day.

    To laugh every day.

To act as if I have nothing to lose, because in reality, there truly is nothing to lose.

To show compassion for others in need.

I believe in living each day to the fullest.

I believe in treating others with the same respect that I myself deserve.

I want to build healthy relationships with others in which we can become each other's biggest

    advocates.

I will grow stronger with each accomplishment, and even stronger with each setback.

I believe everything happens for a reason, and there is no better place to be than right here, right

    now.

    I will not blame others.

I believe in a higher power, and I will let that higher power guide me whenever possible.

    Business Mission Statement

A mission statement is a statement which is used as a way of communicating the purpose of the

organization. Mission statements are normally short and simple statements which outline what

    the organization's purpose.

A good mission statement should precisely explain both why an organization exists and

what it desires to accomplish in the future. It articulates the organization's inherent beliefs,

values, priorities, goals, and focus. It is like a goal for what the company wants to do for the

    world.

Write your business mission statement in a format for it to be framed and hung in your place of

    business.

    Microsoft's mission statement reads:

"To enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential."

    McDonald's mission statement says:

"McDonald's vision is to be the world's best quick service restaurant experience. Being

the best means providing outstanding quality, service, cleanliness, and value, so that we

make every customer in every restaurant smile."

    Levi Strauss' mission statement states:

"We will market the most appealing and widely worn casual clothing in the world. We

    will clothe the world."

If you use a particular template and color scheme, be sure to use it with every document.

Your business phone number and fax number should have the same area code and prefix

numbers. The last four digits will be different.

    BUSINESS PUBLICATIONS

A publication is an item used to communicate with the public, and are usually printed on paper

(like magazines and books), but online publications are delivered via the Internet.

Electronic Publishing is the use of a personal computer to perform all steps necessary to create

a finished, typeset-quality publication ready for printing. It is a system or set of tools used to

combine text and/or graphics into a full-page layout.

    Principles of Design

Refer to the Principles of Design document on my website for a more in-depth

    explanation of each principle.

The principles of design suggest effective and pleasing ways to arrange text and graphics on the

page as well as the arrangement of individual elements within illustrations, logos, and the overall

graphic design of a document. Generally, all the principles of design apply to any piece you may

create. How you apply those principles of design determines how effective your design is in

conveying the desired message and how attractive it appears.

    The Six Principles of Design

    1. Balance 2. White Space 3. Alignment 4. Contrast 5. Proximity and Unity 6. Repetition and Consistency

Balance is an equal distribution of weight in the design by the placement of your elements.

White space is the absence of text and graphics. It is nothing.

Alignment is the placement of text and graphics so they line up on the page.

Contrast occurs when two elements are different.

Proximity is the closeness of elements that creates a relationship (or lack of) between otherwise

disparate elements. Unity helps all the elements look like they belong together.

Repetition strengthens a design by tying together individual
