She served as Judge Chambers court reporter and helped him as a cashier for Danville State Bank. Accepts Award For Hospital From C of C Pat Chambers accepted this award in 2002 at the Danville Cham- ber of Commerce banquet, along with her son, Johhny, on behalf of Chambers Memorial Hospital. Paul Todd Sanders, president of the C of C, presented the plaque. Ms. Chambers and her fam- ily have financially supported the hospital for many years. Pat and her son, Johnny, are with long time friends, Bood Keathley and his mother, Mary Nell Keathley during a holiday event in 2002. Made First Operator Unassisted Telephone Call in Yell County Fifty-eight years ago, in 1957, Pat Chambers dialed the first unassisted telephone call in Yell County. The late Ethel Sanders (left) and Ms. Chambers late husband, John Ed Chambers, are also shown. All local and long distance calls were made by switch board operators be- fore 1957. Began Working At The Bank In The 1940's Pat began working with the bank dur- ing World War II while her late husband, John Ed Chambers, was serving in that war. She served as a court reporter for her father-in-law, Chancery Judge J. E. Chambers She later served as a bank cashier for Judge Chambers, who was founder and presi-dent of the bank at that time. She continued in a variety of roles at the bank for many years and served as an am-bassador for the bank for over 50 years after John Ed Chambers II became presi-dent of the bank in 1946 and later, for her son, Johnny, who assumed the post of president in 1987 and later CEO of the bank. Member Of Bancshares Board of Directors She was also a member of Chambers Bancshares Board of Directors for many years. one time in the Record that she was “drafted” to help since Judge J. E. Chambers was a long- time president of the as- sociation, but she said, “I love to work with the pageant.” She served as chairman of the Yell County Fair Queens committee for 20 years. Helped With Church "Miss Pat" and her fam- ily also made generous donations to the Danville United Methodist Church and especially when the present church was built. Took Special Pride In County Library She took a special pride in the Yell County Li- brary, now located next to the bank, where she and other members of her family, along with sup- port in the community, raised funds to buy books for the library as well as assisting to finance the cost of the library build- ing. Presented Scholarship Funds For Ark Tech For 31 years, Ms. Cham-bers represented the bank and the Chambers family in pre- senting tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to Yell County high school students to attend Arkansas Tech Univer- sity. She and her husband, John Ed, were long- time financial supporters of Arkansas Tech Longtime Supporter Of Chambers Hospital Pat and her son, Johnny Chambers, were on hand when Chambers Hospital made a special presentation at the entrance to the hospi-tal to honor her husband, John Ed Chambers (hospital was renamed after him). She and the Chambers family have do- nated over $500,000 to the hospital in Danville Officer B&PW, Member Chamber Of Commerce In the early 1950’s, Ms. Chambers, who was a char-ter member and officer of Danville B&PW, and a member of the Danville Chamber of Commerce. Along with other members of the two clubs, she spoke to several groups in the county to gain support to fi-nance a new hospital in Danville in 1953.
