Wheel and Axle
• There are 2 ways to work a wheel and axel. First you can us it by having two wheels at the end of a axle. The wheels will then roll providing movement.
• The second way is to wrap a rope around a supported wheel with a lever sticking out. An object can be tied to the other end. By turning the lever, the rope either moves the object toward or away from you.
The wheel and axel is one of the 6 simple machines.
It is made of two circular objects that are out together and rotate in a common axis.

Wedge
A wedge is used to separate two objects, or to lift something
The wedge has been used since the stone ageA wedge can also be used to hold an object in
place, for example a door stop is a wedge

Lever
There are 3 types of levers, 1st , 2nd , and 3rd The type of lever depends on the input effort First Class Second Class Third

Incline Plane (cont.)
The force is normally directed away from the object (in picture)
Used to raise and object.Less effort is needed to raise the object when
you are using an Inclined Plane.

Screw Notes
Screws are related to a inclined plane.
When you use a screwdriver to twist a screw into a piece of wood you put a input force on the screw, then they put an output force on the wood.

Screw Notes continued The screw is really a inclined plane with a
wedge tip.The inclined plane is the thread wrapped
around the screw. The wider the thread of the screw the harder
it is to turn.

pulleys
Like most machines, pulleys help make work easier.
They are easy to make and can be used from different distances
They are used to help people pull heavy objects easily.
Example: A person building a building uses the pulley to bring up bricks and metal, and other things to help make the job easier.

It is also called a sheave or block. It is made up of one or more pulleys, some
rope and cable.More examples:-sewing machines-Flag poles-Water pumps-engines-water pumps Back to TOC Table of
