    questions about painting andsculpting at locations all overtown, including the River-

    side Plaza, the Riverwalk,

    and the Cultural Arts Coun-

    cil (CAC)Fine Art Gallery.

    The Cultural Ar ts Coun-

    cils gallery, located at 423

    W. Elkhorn Ave., was select-

    ed for this years annualexhibition, and is the only

    location in the United States

    it will be shown. The much-

    anticipated Women Artists ofthe West 43rd annual nation-

    al exhibition, WAOWing the

    Centennial State, opens on

    Saturday, July 6, at 12:30

    p.m., right after the winning

    paintings are selected, andthe gallery will host an open-

    ing reception for the public

    between 5 and 9 p.m., withfood generously sponsored

    by three favorite local restau-

    rants, The Other Side,

    Sweet Basilico and The

    Grubsteak.

    Admission to the show isfree and the Cultural Arts

    Council will handle sales ofthe artwork. Support for the

    During operationsoff Okinawa, a Jap-anese dive bomberdropped an 800-

    pound bomb on the signalbridge of the USS YorktownCV-10. Just 40 feet away,

    gunners mate Jack Mac-Dade remembers his twin5-inch, 38-caliber gun turretslosing power and goingdead. Still, MacDade fondlyrecalls the Yorktown as theLucky Y, because the Japa-nese never knocked her outof commission during WorldWar II.

    More than 60 years later,Honor Flight of NorthernColorado honored Jack Mac-Dade and other World War IIand Korean veterans bysending them to Washing-ton, D.C., to visit the WorldWar II Memorial, Iwo JimaMemorial, Vietnam VeteransMemorial Wall and the Kore-

    from Denver and walkedinto the Baltimore airline ter-minal, everyone stood andclapped the workers, peo-ple waiting for flights, evenactive servicemen.
