WELCOME, FR. PAOLO!
While our pastor, Fr. Paul, is on sabbatical we welcome Fr. Paolo Garcia who will be with us each weekend celebrating Sunday Mass.
A native of Long Beach, Fr. Paolo’s home parish is St. Lucy Catholic Church in Long Beach (where Fr. Budi is pastor). Fr. Paolo was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 2016. He served three years as an associate pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Roland Heights.
Last year, Archbishop Gomez appointed Fr. Paolo as director of the Queen of Angels Center for Priestly Formation. The Center has recently been relocated to the old convent at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance (it was formerly located at St. Anthony Parish, Gardena, and known as Juan Diego House). Fr. Paolo leads a program for college-level men who are continuing their undergraduate education while discerning a vocation to the priesthood. Upon graduation, they are ready for entrance to St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo.
Fr. Paolo is no stranger to our parish as he is a good friend of our own Fr. Ricky Viveros! Wel-come to St. Margaret Mary Parish, Fr. Paolo, and thank you for sharing your priesthood with us for the next few months.

SAFEGUARDING THE CHILDREN
Foster one-on-one relationships safely
One-on-one time with trusted adults is healthy for children and helps them
to build self-esteem and long-term relationships. You can protect your child while still ensuring they have time and
opportunity to build these relationships. You can drop in unexpectedly when your
child is with another adult, even if that person is a trusted family member. Insist on observable outings, in public places. Talk with your child after an outing, not-ing his mood or her ability to confidently tell you what happened. For more infor-
mation, visit https://www.d2l.org/education/5-steps/step-2/.

FEAST OF FAITH
Preparation of the Gifts The altar is prepared, the gifts are
received. Several brief rites follow with accompanying prayers, some prayed silently
by the priest and deacon and others said aloud. We call this part of the Mass the
“preparation.” What kind of preparation is happening? First, the presider holds up the
paten or bowl containing the hosts, and says words that Jesus must have said many times, since they derive from ancient Jewish meal prayers: “Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation!” We have brought forward our gifts, our offering to God, and now we
acknowledge that they are not really ours—the gifts that we give are God’s gift to us.
It is “through your goodness” that we have gifts to offer. It is significant that we offer not wheat and grapes, but bread and wine;
“fruit of the earth and work of human hands.” Bread and wine are both God’s
work, and ours. These preparatory rites also prepare us for what we are about to do in the Eucharist, a mystery in which divine and hu-man meet; a holy collaboration in which our action is caught up into God’s divine plan.
