PRAYER REQUEST FOR OUR MILITARY MEN & WOMEN

Dear Faith Family of Our Lady of Grace Praised be Jesus Christ…now and forever! Yesterday, the archbishop ordained eight men to the priesthood at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. One of those men being our former intern Danny Garcia, it is amazing to see an-other group of new priests who will con nue to make living the person of Jesus Christ in today’s church and world. The key word for these men as it is for every single Chris an is “Today.” Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, in his address on the World Day of Prayer for Voca ons one year men oned this word “today” and explores its meaning. He said: “The joy of the Gospel, which makes us open to encountering God and our brothers and sis-ters, does not abide our slowness and our sloth. It will not fill our hearts if we keep standing by the window with the excuse of wai ng for the right me, without accep ng this very day the risk of making a decision. Voca on is today! The Chris an mis-sion is now! Each one of us is called – whether to the lay life in marriage, to the priestly life in the ordained ministry, or to a life of special consecra on – in order to become a witness of the Lord, here and now…”
This “today” that Jesus proclaimed assures us that God con n-ues to “come down” to save our human family and to make us sharers in his mission. The Lord con nues to call us to live with him and to follow him in a rela onship of par cular closeness. He calls us to serve him directly and to consecrate our lives completely to his kingdom, and then we should have no fear! It is beau ful – and it is a great grace – to be completely and for-ever consecrated to God and the service of our brothers and sisters.
Please join us in congratula ng Fr. Danny Garcia and all the newly ordained priest class who embark on a wonderful journey with the people of God. Mark your calendars for Fr. Danny’s Masses of Thanksgiving here at OLG on August 23rd at 8:30 am (English) and 10am (Spanish). We will be presen ng him with a special gi from the parish, which he will be able to use in his priestly ministry. May we con nue to pray for an increase of voca ons to the priesthood and consecrated life here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Let our homes and families be cen-ters where we encourage voca ons and service. How can we con nue to celebrate and be nourished in our faith life if we do not call forth people who will lead us? If you think you know of someone that might make a good priest, a religious, or a perma-nent deacon reach out to us and we would like to have a con-versa on with you or them.
These next several weeks as part of my le er I would like to share with you some reflec ons on priesthood and praying for voca ons by Archbishop Fulton Sheen excerpts from his book A Priest is not His Own. I hope you will be able to appreciate how we are all in the work of raising voca ons.

Holy Chris ans Guarantee Holy Priests | Bishop Fulton J. Sheen From The Priest Is Not His Own | Holiness descends in the Church from the All-Holy God through Christ, His bishops and His priests, to the en re community that is the Mys cal Body. But there is simultaneously an ascending movement of holiness from the Chris an community to the All-Holy God. Par cularly is this true of voca ons to the priesthood and the religious life. There is no priest who does not go through the mo ons of urg-ing the faithful to pray for voca ons. But, too o en, the phrases are formal. They are what is expected of one. In the priest's mind, they are a part of the announcements, on a level with the card party for the Ladies' Auxiliary or the Catholic Youth Organi-za on ska ng meet. These other ac vi es are, of course, not to be sneered at. They too foster a Chris an life and therefore s mulate voca ons. But can we put them in the same category as prayer? Out of hun-dreds of possible ways of fostering voca ons, prayer was the single one Our Lord specified. The harvest, He told them, is plen ful enough, but the laborers are few; you must ask the Lord to Whom the harvest belongs to send laborers out for the harves ng. (Luke 10:2)
What prompted these words? Luke says that Christ spoke them on the occasion of choosing seventy-two disciples (Lk 10:1). Ma hew sketches the background in more detail. It was a er a long journey, he noted, and the Lord's heart was touched by compassion for the masses who hungered for knowledge of heaven but did not know where to search for what they lacked.

¡Querida Familia de Fe de Nuestra Señora de Gracia,
Alabado sea Jesucristo... ¡ahora y siempre!
Ayer, el arzobispo ordenó al sacerdocio a ocho caballeros en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Angelinos. Uno de esos hom-bres es nuestro exseminarista Danny García, es increíble ver a otro grupo de nuevos sacerdotes que con nuarán haciendo en nuestras vidas la persona de Jesucristo en la iglesia y el mundo de hoy. La palabra clave para estos hombres como lo es para cada cris ano es "Hoy o ahora". Nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, en su discurso de la Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones menciono un año la palabra "hoy" y explica su significado. Diciendo; “La alegría del Evangelio, que nos abre al encuentro con Dios y con nuestros hermanos y hermanas, no a ende nuestra len tud ni nuestra pereza. No nos llenará el co-razón si seguimos de pie junto a la ventana con la excusa de es-perar el momento adecuado, sin aceptar este mismo día el ries-go de tomar una decisión. ¡La vocación es hoy! ¡La misión cris a-na es ahora! Cada uno de nosotros está llamado/a– a la vida de laico en el matrimonio, a la vida sacerdotal en el ministerio orde-nado, o a una vida de consagrada religiosa – para conver rnos en tes gos del Señor, aquí y ahora..."
Este "hoy" que Jesús proclamó nos asegura que Dios con núa "bajando" para salvar a nuestras familias y hacernos par darios de su misión. El Señor sigue llamándonos a vivir con él y a se-guirlo en una relación muy cercana. Nos llama a servirle directa-mente y a consagrar nuestra vida completamente a su reino, ¡entonces no debemos temer! Es lo más hermoso, y es una gran gracia, estar consagrados completa y eternamente a Dios y al servicio de nuestros hermanos y hermanas.
Felicitamos al P. Danny García y a todos los sacerdotes recién ordenados que se embarcan en un maravilloso viaje con el pueblo de Dios. Y también marque su calendario para las Misas de Acción de Gracias del P. Danny aquí en nuestra parroquia, el 23 de agosto a las 8:30 am (inglés) y 10am (español). Le presen-taremos un regalo especial de parte de la parroquia, que podrá u lizar en su ministerio sacerdotal. Sigamos orando por un au-mento de las vocaciones al sacerdocio y a la vida consagradaaquí en nuestra Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Que nuestros ho-gares y familias sean centros donde fomentemos las vocacionesy el servicio a la iglesia. ¿Cómo podemos seguir celebrando ynutrirnos en nuestra vida de fe si no invocamos a las personasque nos guiarán? Estas próximas semanas como parte de mi carta me gustaría compar r con ustedes algunas reflexiones sobre el sacerdocio y la oración por las vocaciones del arzobispo Fulton Sheen extractos de su libro Un sacerdote no es suyo. Espero que
puedan apreciar cómo estamos todos en la obra de fomentar vocaciones.

Los Santos Cris anos garan zan a los Santos Sacerdotes El obispo Fulton J. Sheen del Sacerdote no es suyo.
La san dad desciende en la Iglesia desde el Dios Santo a través de Cristo, Sus obispos y Sus sacerdotes, a toda la comunidad que es el Cuerpo mís co. Pero al mismo empo hay un movimiento ascendente de san dad de la comunidad cris ana al Dios Santo. En par cular, es cierto de las vocaciones al sacerdocio y a la vida religiosa.
No hay sacerdote que no pase por los movimientos de instar a los fieles a orar por las vocaciones. Pero, con demasiada fre-cuencia, las frases son formales. Son lo que se espera de uno. En la mente del sacerdote, son parte de los anuncios, al nivel de la fiesta de cartas para la reunión de pa naje de la Organización de damas o de la Organización Católica de la Juventud.
Estas otras ac vidades, por supuesto, no deben ser burladas. También fomentan una vida cris ana y, por lo tanto, es mulan las vocaciones. Pero, ¿podemos ponerlos en la misma categoría que la oración? De cientos de posibles formas de fomentar las vocaciones, la oración fue la única que nuestro Señor especificó.
La cosecha, les dijo, es lo suficientemente abundante, pero los obreros son pocos; debes pedirle al Señor a quién pertenece la cosecha que envíe obreros para la cosecha. (Lucas 10:2)
¿Qué mo vó estas palabras? Lucas dice que Cristo los habló con ocasión de elegir setenta y dos discípulos (Lc 10, 1). Mateo dibu-ja el fondo con más detalle. Fue después de un largo viaje, seña-ló, y el corazón del Señor se conmovió por la compasión por las masas que tenían hambre de conocimiento del cielo, pero no sabían dónde buscar lo que les faltaba.

Prayer For Lebanon
We pray, God of all people, that your Spirit of healing and protection be with the people of Beirut and Lebanon at this
time. May the good news of peace and loving care be with all who live in
Beirut, especially those suffering as a result of this disaster.
May the terrifying sounds of explosion, ambulance sirens and the cries of those trapped in buildings give way to sounds
of courage and hope.
May the smell of acrid smoke, burning buildings and remains soon give way to a renewed sense of God’s loving presence
and strength.
May there be real cooperation between rescue workers, government personnel
and civilians so that true justice and peace might break through for all and
people’s deep suffering alleviated.
Our Lady of Lebanon, pray for us and for all who suffer in Beirut.
