So here at Hunting4Gold.com we have a way of looking at finding gold. This straightforward process details a series of five different stages. Each stage is designed to multiply the odds of finding gold immensely.

To start with let's discuss why we need this strategic process for gold discovery and mining. The need for this process should be obvious from the situation one faces when hunting for good gold concentrations. Without a clear pattern of clues to gold's location we are required to dig everywhere just to get a hint of where a pocket or pay-streak may be hiding. There has to be a better way... Hence my five stage system. As we proceed from stage to stage it will be important to note what each stage is designed to produce and how it makes the next stage that much more focused on the gold concentrations for your sites. The five stage system is designed to provide you a simple series of procedures each one of which is meant to provide a set of critical clues that increase your probability of success in finding good gold concentrations. Each of the individual five stage results is stacked in sequence to multiply your probability of success. All 5 Stages are designed to lead you from Stage I. through Stage V. in sequence so that you can get the best gold recovery with a minimum wasted effort.

Systematic Gold Prospecting in 5 Stages

The five stages are as follows: 1. Gold site research - How to find good gold sites to survey 2. Gold site survey - Where the survey says to sample 3. Gold sampling - What gold concentration is found and where 4. Pay-streak mapping - How samples build a pay-streak map 5. Mine or move on - Where you should mine & when to move on

Let's take a look at Stage I. - The site research stage. Our purpose here will be to make a decision list concerning the historic and geologic potential for sites that we have found in our off site study. This research document is a list of places to visit for field trip

and site survey in Stage II. We will prioritize them based on what constitutes what we believe to be the best to the worst site for our ability to find gold and our ability to gain access to them. This will include such topics as gold history and gold geologic information as well as area descriptors for history and probability of finding gold. Recent news information and any other related documentation that can be gleaned from the web or from historic sources or from local information resources such as court houses museums etc. Copy and save that gold site related information into your notebook with your maps. This will be assembled together into a loose document of area research. It's important to begin from the very start by mapping this information out in such a way that you can easily determine which sites have high likelihood of good gold vs. not and which sites have easy access vs. not. Now in Stage II - Site survey This is where we're going to begin looking at photographs, notes and rough maps and taking a few more photographs from high vantage points of our creek zone. These will combine with rock samples and topologic and geologic notes into our annotated site map that we develop as we go. Evidence of local geologic and hydrologic clues such as: gold traps, changes in river high water lines, locations of gold tailings piles, and other evidence of gold or gold related rocks and ores will be combined in our site map. These notes will be used to guide us to probable sample locations.

A lot of this relates to a concept called Hydro-geomorphology. This term is a big word for a pretty straightforward concept having to do with the water-powered formation of rock structures. During floods boulders, rocks, sand, and gravels are propelled downstream at high speed. This moving debris flow has the ability to carve rock and even split mountains among other things. In doing so it can change the course of the river and it can dislodge a gold lode or vein from its host rock. This is what you're looking for evidence of during your site survey. So we will learn how to read a creek or stream bed for this kind of evidence and plot a map of the important gold clues that these floods left behind. By developing this site map you will create one of the most powerful tools that we have for the purpose of discovering and recovering gold from its native concentrations. Along with the information on the site map, we will be creating a notebook of our gold findings and our decisions as we make progress toward our gold recovery goals. Next in line will be Stage III. - Site sampling This is where we'll begin sampling at all of the important locations that were noted on our site map in Stage II. As we sample we will be recording the concentrations of gold, the location, and any confirmation of our hypothesis of where gold is from Stage II. This is so that we can carry the sample data and locations forward into Stage IV where we will begin to assemble it into a hybrid map of gold lines or pay-streaks. One of the most important things to recognize during the sampling phase is the need for accurate samples and locations. It's okay to want to just discover some gold in your pan. It's a whole different thing when you want to tie together those discoveries into a potential gold map that you can mine in quantity later.

Patience really is a virtue when it comes to reliable gold prospecting. You need to be serious about accurate sample maps.

So first we will be covering exactly what a sample is and why you sample the way you should. This stage will describe ways for you to calibrate and log your samples. You will need to do this so that you can reliably extrapolate the meaning when you string them together in your gold pay-streak. It's real important to know the relative concentration of each sample so that you can figure out where the peak in sample results occurred. Your sample data feeds directly into Stage IV pay-streak mapping. So the next stage is Stage IV. - Pay-streak mapping We'll be looking at how to map your pay-streak based on an estimation using the sample maps that were obtained in Stage III. It's a pretty straightforward process assuming that you are diligent in collecting your sample maps. It's not uncommon to carry out this mapping process as you collect your samples. During Stage IV you are going to want to incorporate additional information from Stage II. showing traps and other physical gold concentrators. These are the geologic shapes of things in your stream bed region that will redirect gold.

I will also be discussing techniques for pay-streak identification using simple statistical principles that cause gold to concentrate in a fairly uniform predictable distribution based on water flow.

Now we get to Stage V. - Mine or move on This is where most miners consider the real work of gold mining. Just remember that the goal of the previous four stages is to make this stage more productive at recovering gold quickly. Kind'a think of it like your brains and now we'll talk about your brawn. You still need to apply your brains during the mining phase don't get me wrong. Without a good gold map you may as well be digging a great big glory hole with a $250,000 excavator and no clue. As seen

on TV. All it takes is a little bit of sampling and some rather easy analysis and you can remove all that pain and anger from not finding enough gold. Stage I through IV are the low impact stages that determine what kind of mining operation you should engage in during Stage V. The last section of this phase mine or move on is the move on activity. Mainly what you're going to do is analyze when you have achieved your goal or when you're done enough work that you know that you need to move on.

Now you're equipped with your previous stages of research to know where to move on to and you simply move to the next most likely place to find gold.

Your Finished Site Map is Gold for Mining This is really important as well because the mapping and careful gold clue detecting cuts out unproductive labor-intensive sweaty work and leads you to the next place the will likely find gold.

The faster you execute this final step of mining recovery the faster you're going to be able to find gold somewhere along the stream the places you've already documented that it will likely exist. This is really important! Gold production and recovery loves both speed and accuracy. Remember that... Good Prospecting! Prospector Jess P.S. I included a few sample site note templates to get you started. I suggest you Xerox copies to use in the field. Set your scale, and map your site from stage I. thru Stage V. :-)
