PRODUCTION
APPL production upto end August 2014 at 139.39 lac kgs is 10.95 lac kgs less than the budget and 15.87 lac kgs less than previous year. The Dooars estates upto end August have produced 21.53 lac kgs, which is 0.95 % lower than budget. The Assam estates upto end August produced 117.86 lac kgs, which is 8.35 % lower than budget.
66.29 lac kgs of production from purchased green leaf upto end August is 12.01 % lower than budget but 14.61 % higher than last year.
INDUSTRY UPDATEIndia : More Moderate Monsoon rains and cropping remains good.China/Vietnam : Are seasonally normal with positive crop.Kenya : The cold spell is slowly drawing to a close. This forebodes for extra crop.Sri Lanka : Quite dry and windy but crops are holding up well.
PRODUCTION UPDATE
- North India crop is lower by 0.05 million (0.04%) in July against last year.
- The All India production for July 2014 is 162.09 million kgs. The All Indian cumulative loss for July is 10.87 million kgs (1.96%).
- The anticipated North India production for August 2014 will be around 138.00 million kgs (Tea Board figures yet to be released) whereby the All India crop during August 2014 will be around 153 million kgs. A decrease of around 2.00 million kgs.
PRICE UPDATE
- North India Auction average price for August 2014 was Rs. 148.62 against Rs. 142.36 last year.
- Upto August 2014, the North India Auction average is Rs. 159.75 against Rs. 148.48 for the same period last year.
- North India Auction averages are higher by Rs. 11.27 over last year.
- The North India CTC market for August 2014 rules at Rs. 7.94 higher over the same period last year. The orthodox market is approx Rs. 2.37 lower than last year.
WORLD TEA SCENARIO
World (excluding China) tea production during July 2014 is approx 235.00 million kgs. For the same period last year it was 218.1 million kgs. This translates to a increase of 16.90 million kgs harvested for the month.

The Chairman APPL - Mr Ranjit Barthakur Visits APPL Estates in Assam and Dooars
APPL Chairman, Mr. Ranjit Barthakur completed his visit of all the 25 gardens in Assam and Dooars between August and 15th September.
Apart from reviewing business operations, his focus was on the areas of healthcare, education, living conditions and other social issues of the
garden workers and staff, and the environmental challenges being faced. Exhaustive visits were made to workers and staff houses, garden
hospitals, schools, crèches, recreation clubs, factories and plantation areas . In addition, he also met with each and every member of the
management teams and doctors and their families during the course of his visit

CSR Activities by APPL
Solidaridad, an international development organization in collaboration with Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited
(APPL) has conducted a set of 4 medical camps for workers and their families in closed tea gardens of West Bengal in
the vicinity of APPL gardens. Both the organisations are working on sustainable development of the tea industry in India
and are concerned by several reports in media about hardship faced by workers in the closed tea gardens.
This initiative focused on addressing immediate medical needs of the population, to augment the role played by the
Government and the Tea Board of India. The medical camps will initially be organized in the Red Bank, Dharinpur and
Surendra Nagar tea gardens in 2 phases and would benefit the affected population of 6000 people in the vicinity.
The schedule of the medical camps already held and for the next phase is as follows:

In the 1st phase the total turnout as per registration was 1228 patients including children and pregnant ladies. Apart
from medication, children upto the age of 6 years were provided Nestogen, Biscuits and Chocolates.
As per the feedback received from the closed garden committee members , the camps were a great success and they
were very satisfied with the medical attention , treatment and medicines provided on site.
The camps were conducted by the medical team from all the 4 APPL Dooars gardens consisting of Dr Phangcho and his
team from Rungamuttee , Dr. Kundu and CHV of Noweranuddy, paramedical team of Batabari and the whole camp was
coordinated by Dr D Sengupta and his team including 1 welfare officer from Dam Dim. Messers Saroj and Circar from
Solidaridad were also present at the camps. The management team of the 4 APPL gardens arranged for the logisitics
and were actively involved with the local administration in arranging the camps.
The camp was assisted by representatives of Health & ICDS departments, and visits were also made by the Head of ICDS
and BMOH.
