We participated in Learning Sprints Professional Learning (Simon Breakspear). Engagement in Learning Sprints supports the adoption of evidence-informed practices and enables educators to collectively plan, act and evaluate their impact. The approach is aligned with the existing research evidence into the features of effective teacher Professional Learning and the science of behaviour change . Our school executive team also spent a whole day on Friday, examining how we can implement learning sprints effectively into our school. We trialled them last year with great success and we look forward to sharing our results with you. Mr Moore travelled with me to Melbourne this week to participate in a conference led by Emeritus Professor, Dylan Wiliam. Professor Wiliam discussed embedding formative assessment, and explored: why an increase in educational achievement is needed: what’s been tried, and why it hasn’t worked what formative assessment is (and isn’t) and why formative assessment needs to be the priority for every school practical techniques for implementing formative assessment, and how to sustain the development of formative assessment with teacher learning communities. Both Learning Sprints and Formative Assessment is identified in our school plan as being a priority in 2019 (Strategic Direction 2, Excellence in Teaching). It was pleasing to see our swimmers performing so well at the District Swimming Carnival this week. I was able to watch some of the events and all of our swimmers can be very proud of their efforts. Well done everyone and best of luck to our swimmers competing at the Mid North Coast Carnival next week. Have a great weekend! Brad Lyne - Principal PBL This fortnight, our Stage 3 Leaders taught a lesson on being LEARNERS in afternoon lines. The lesson outlined: Be in the right place at the right time Know where you are going Listen to instructions Our next fortnightly focus will be ‘being SAFE in the right place’. Also, just a friendly reminder that if you are picking your child up, please wait at the Tallowwood Tree for your child to be brought down by the teachers on duty. Thank you for your cooperation. Bus Safety Tips Adults - always hold your child’s hand when crossing the road. Meet your child at the school or the bus stop – NEVER wait on the opposite site of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone then use a safe place to cross the road. Supervise your child walking to and from the bus and crossing the road until they are at least 10. Drivers - slow down to 40km/h when the bus lights are flashing.

Year 6 Marine Studies Each Monday, Year 6 students have been engaging in Marine Science lessons out and about in our local area. The program is hosted by Toormina High School and led by the very knowledgeable Dr Willhoite and Mrs Thomas. Students are gaining skills in working scientifically, while learning about our marine environments. It is also an excellent transition program to high school.

P&C Voluntary Contribution The P&C is asking families for a Voluntary Contribution of $40.00 per student or $100.00 per family with three or more students. These funds help subsidise various activities through the school such as home readers, library books, playground equipment, technology and infrastructure projects around the school.

Yarn Up On Wednesday we had our first Yarn Up of 2019. We had an enthusiastic group of parents keen to discuss the direction we are heading with Aboriginal Education at Boambee PS. We discussed how we are incorporating Aboriginal perspectives into the classroom. All teachers will be in contact with families shortly to touch base with parents and set some learning goals for students for 2019. Inclusive Sport This term, Stage 2 are engaging in a unit of work around understanding what disability means, and gaining perspectives of people living with a disability. We are also looking at barriers faced by a range of people, and what we can do as a society to break down these barriers.

To compliment this unit of work, Stage 2 students have been involved in an Inclusive Sports program run by local organisation AbilityLinks. Students have had the chance to try Bocce, Sit Down Volleyball and games in the wheelchairs. Students have loved the experience and it has provided some great discussion and learning points in the classroom.
